Face wash for teenage boys

Anyone recommend a decent face wash for teenage boys? My son has just turned 13 and is starting to get spots and oily skin but doesn't use a face wash currently at all.

Cerave foaming cleanser, don't need very much so although it is quite expensive it lasts fair while & also comes in a large bottle which is better value if find it suits his skin. Cerave moisturizers are nice too, tendency to want to dry out oily skin but that can it make worse. Bigger superdrug & boots may stock in store. www.cerave.co.uk/our-products/cleansers/foaming-cleanser
Sudocreme at night can work well on any minor outbreaks

Alpha H or La Roche Posay

Thanks both! Will look at those.

One of my dds uses Carbon theory charcoal soap, which has really helped her skin. (You can order online)
The other uses LaRoche Posey Effaclar, which you can buy in a set which has a cream you can use on spots.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/08/2020 08:45

Take him to the drs if the acne doesn’t clear up, acne scars easily.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 17/08/2020 09:10

Effaclar if it's normal teenage spots.

Todaythiscouldbe · 17/08/2020 09:14

My teenage son uses nip and fab teen skin wipes. They also do a face wash which he uses very occasionally but the wipes are far easier.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 17/08/2020 09:15

Meant to say, when my daughter started with the typical teen skin, Effaclar duo gel transformed it. It's not a wash (though she also used the Effaclar wash) but a gel for after cleaning.

My DS’s spots have improved using Boots own brand Charcoal, Tea tree and witchazel face wash. And I think it’s on offer for £3.33 at the moment too.

My son uses Clearasil wipes, they are in a round tub. Brilliant for outbreaks.

BenoneBeauty · 17/08/2020 22:10

Thanks all - very helpful.

My son had really bad skin in his teens, I got him lots of boots own face wash, wipes etc but also started getting him to drink lots of water regularly and have a good diet, he rarely eats sweets/biscuits etc and his skin is great now, I think it’s more about what you put into your body that helps you have nice skin as opposed to just treating it

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 18/08/2020 07:40

Has to be La Roche Posay Effaclar, a dermatologist recommended it to my teen boy & the difference is amazing. ON sale too.... Cleansing Gel
or a Bundle & then there is Moisturiser with video explanation in the link

TantricTwist · 18/08/2020 15:53

My DS uses Clearsil ultra face wash and when he doesn't use it you can really see the difference spot wise.
He's 14, showers daily, uses clearasil face wash with a clean flannel daily all of this keeps his skin in check he knows this now from experience so is very diligent.

If need be he uses the clearasil pads and clearasil ultra spot cream.

My DD uses the same and will use whatever balm cleanser that I have that doesn't suit my more sensitive skin to remover any makeup of micellar water. They both get spots but hers is more period related and his is sweaty boy related.

I however spend more on myself Blush and use Dermalogica special gel cleanser and once or twice a week use Dermalogica daily microfoliant. I will let my DC use the latter if the clearasil ever stops working for them but so far so good.

I think using a clean daily flannel makes a huge difference in itself.

Cepahil was recommended by dermalogists and seems very effective. The key is gentle but through cleansing. For actual spots ask the gp to prescribe duac as really effective at reducing redness and inflammation.

TantricTwist · 18/08/2020 17:48

Cetaphil is awful stuff and leaves a film on your face which is not very spot friendly.

Blownaway22 · 18/08/2020 18:11

Reading with interest and wondering whether any of the products mentioned will help clear blackheads around the nose area? If not, any recommendations please?

Thanks

anicebag · 18/08/2020 18:24

Body shop tea tree stuff is good

MrsMcMuffins · 18/08/2020 18:54

Dermalogica teen products are good.

FinnyStory · 18/08/2020 19:00

Both my sons use the Neutrogena Grapefruit one which seems to help with blackheads and a few pimples. For proper acne though, agree with others he'd need a doctor to help.

@Blownaway22 I had a lot of success for blackheads with a Clean and Clear cleanser sold for blackheads. Sorry, I can't remember what it was called, I actually have eventually grown out of them now, at 50! I nearly didn't buy it as it claimed results within 24 hours and I don't believe in products that make ridiculous claims, but it really worked.

I second this.
Perching · 18/08/2020 19:13

Another vote for Dermalogica.

IWantToBeAFairy · 18/08/2020 19:13

I second the carbon theory charcoal soap, my 16yo uses it and you can really notice when he doesn't. Read up the reviews, they're really good.

Techway · 18/08/2020 19:18

@TantricTwist, not if used as a wash. It has been recommended by 2 dermatologists and cleared up skins of several teens I know. I guess everyone is different. Most important is that it is non irritating and gentle so doesn't cause over production of oil.
