Good tinted moisturisers?

RagamuffinPuffling · 12/08/2020 14:15

I'm lucky and have never had to wear foundation/anything on my skin. But not I'm getting older and wrinklier I think I'd benefit from a bit more coverage. I don't want to go the whole hog of foundation so thought I'd try a tinted moisturiser. But although I love makeup this is a totally new area to me so I was going for some recommendations.

Also, do you apply it by hand or with a brush? If a brush I'd love to know what sort!

Tia Thanks

I came on to say Trinny. Much better than Nars, Clinique, Laura Mercier, Beauty Pie and a bunch of others I have tried.

Rainallnight · 13/08/2020 08:27

Oh interesting. I was going to wait till the Nars stuff ran out to get the Trinny one but I’m tempted now!

Dullblue · 13/08/2020 08:42

I really like the Pixi h20 Skin Tint. And you can pick it up in boots x

stayathomer · 13/08/2020 09:25

For winter I used to have Olay A touch of foundation. It's quite heavy but looks beautiful and your skin feels great. It's regularly on offer in the skincare section in Tesco

stayathomer · 13/08/2020 09:31

Ps the holy grail for a lot of people seems to be IT cosmetics but it's about thirty euro and theres such a range of colours I dont think I could choose one.
Le Roche posay feels great after you've put it on but is quite dark compared to some of the others also my skin flakes a little bit after putting it on.
Clarins would be my holy grail tbh, felt beautiful and got compliments.
clinique felt amazing but every time I wore it dh made comments about how I looked better without make up, that I was a bit shiny with it (with clarins/olay he'd say I was 'looking well')Wink

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 13/08/2020 10:29

I find the IT cosmetics ones to be very heavy? In fact probably heavier than my usual foundation, chanel vitalumiere. Am I doing something wrong?

emma6776 · 13/08/2020 21:26

With the IT Cosmetics one you only need a tiny tiny tiny bit - far less than any other bb or foundation. It’s really spreads. Less is definitely more. I hated it at first as I was using a 20p size blob but now I use a quarter of that (less even) and I love it!

mashpot · 13/08/2020 21:49

Max Factor Miracle Touch Second Skin. Sali Hughes recommended it recently and while I usually use foundation I bought some and really like it, especially in this hot weather.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 14/08/2020 10:04

Thanks for the IT cosmetics tip. I’ll try that.

Thought I’d pop on to say the L’Oréal skin paradise new tinted skin water is heavy coverage as well. I put Harley any on and it’s just far too heavy for me. I don’t want a lot of coverage just to even out my skin tone. It doesn’t seem to buff in to the skin to give a lighter cover. Sits very heavy.

I’m 44 with good skin. Slightly on the sensitive side but for my age I have hardly any lines. Just a few at the eyes when I smile. I can get red patches on my chin and have slightly larger pores than I would like on my nose but nothing a tinted moisturiser doesn’t sort out usually.

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/08/2020 11:19

You can buy custom colour drops to add to your own moisturiser for the level of coverage you want OP. No.7 do one.

Otherwise I'd look at light/sheer coverage foundations to be honest. Most of the bb or CC creams I have tried are greasy and orange. Things like the IT Cosnetics CC which everyones raves about have significantly more coverage than most of the actual foundations I own, it's easily medium to full coverage and pretty floppy, presumably due to the SPF content. It's also fragrances which may not suit a lot of skin types. I do think it's vanity selling really to make people feel good they 'only' use a CC cream, and don't 'need' a foundation.

I don't have perfect skin and find using a light or sheer foundation to even out and then a good concealer to cover marks etc that I want covered looks more natural.

Trinny BFF cream, love it

Mumtumwobble · 14/08/2020 14:45

I bought the Clinique bb gel with the anti-wrinkle cartridge a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It’s supposed to adapt to your skin tone and it gives a lovely glow. Like I’ve had a few days in the sun. It could possibly be too dark in the depths of winter (I’m very fair), but it’s absolutely perfect now while I’ve got a little bit of colour.

HorsePellets · 14/08/2020 14:47

No7 foundation drops. You mix them into your face cream and coverage in adjustable depending on how many drops you use/how much face cream you use.

e.l.f. and (I think) Revolution do similar products, but for MUCH cheaper prices, and you could also look at The Ordinary Serum Foundation, which you can use in the same way.

alexdgr8 · 14/08/2020 14:50

don't forget the SPF.
that's the main thing that will keep your skin young-looking.
very day.
min 15 in winter, for caucasian.

alexdgr8 · 14/08/2020 14:51

every day.
ask any dermatologist.

I’ve just recently bought this too and loving it fir a light tint.
LadyOfTheCanyon · 15/08/2020 11:20

Just to confuse things further I love the Origins Gin-Zing 40SPF tinted moisturiser, it's great for holidays so you have a decent SPF and a dewy sort of cover. If you set it with powder it looks a bit more full coverage.

RagamuffinPuffling · 16/08/2020 10:07

Thanks all, I've ended up going with the NARS cos I got a deal. It's lovely, I don't notice it at all. Think I might go through some of the others mentioned here too - the Chanel sounds lovely!

Enjoy it!

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 16/08/2020 19:50

Nars is lovely
Laura Mercier seems to get a lot of love but i didn’t like it as well as the Bare Minerals but do try
The other one which is technically a foundation but has a lovely light coverage but can be built up that I highly recommend is MAC Face and Body
The shades are forgiving but if you decide to purchase get the pro version which is £30 for 120ml as opposed to £27 for 50nl 🤷🏽‍♀️

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 16/08/2020 19:50

Use fingers

Tomasinabombadil · 16/08/2020 20:00

What is BB cream please?

Todaywewilldobetter · 16/08/2020 20:05

I have evangelically recommended IT on here several times but the tube I got last week isn't the same. It's greasy and yet oxidizing and it just isn't the same consistency as the last three lots!

Blueroses14 · 24/08/2020 06:00

Brushes like Real Techniques Expert Face Brush from Superdrug or Boots, have a compact head and give an even and smooth finish - it’s easy to miss areas like round your nose, especially if your eyesight starts to go. Use a swirling and pressing motion.....(tinted moisturisers are applied thinly, so don’t forget SPF. )
I’m a fan of M&S autograph DD cream and if my skin is feeling really dry, their Hydra Fluid Serum foundation by Pur, is lightweight and hydrating.

pinkbalconyrailing · 24/08/2020 06:23

I used to like the body shop bb cream, but won't be buying any more...

I found that I still need to use moisturiser before applying bb cream, or it would look blotchy
