Dungarees - too old and out of shape? (Photos)

Off out for the day with some very slim and glamorous people - I will be the biggest person there and I am so out of shape and wobbly I feel that none of my clothes flatter me.

I love the idea of dungarees but knew they wouldn’t be for me but for some reason I bought some yesterday and I’m not sure I can get away with them.

Can I get some honest (but not too brutal) mn thoughts please? I’m 40 if that makes any difference ( although I’ve never been one for saying clothes have an age but I do think dungarees are different).

For me the breton top makes the outfit a bit CBeebies presenter but the dungarees are fine.

TomNook · 28/07/2020 08:44

They look ok. I wouldn’t wear them as I’m not 20

Mycatsmellsbad · 28/07/2020 08:54

Haha CBeebies presenter that’s exactly what I feel like! Ok Breton top has gone I think that’s what was bothering me.

Sorry. I think they are very unflattering. They would look unflattering on me as well, mind you.

Bumble84 · 28/07/2020 09:21

I think they look great. I’d pair them with a pair of toms or similar but if you’re going into the woods maybe just standard trainers. Only reason I don’t like dungarees is the faff going to the toilet, but I’m lazy 😂

BurtsBeesKnees · 28/07/2020 09:38

I'm 47 and have the same dungarees Smile you look lovely in them. I roll them up and wear with trainers. .

Dotinthecity · 28/07/2020 09:42

They look great and I love the Breton top with them!

LunaNorth · 28/07/2020 09:43

They don’t look remotely unflattering. You look fab.

Hiccupiscal · 28/07/2020 09:43

you look slim and in proportion, op.
I love the look and think its lovely for what you want.
If you wanted to dress it up a little, a fitted back tee and some chunky jewellery, with black plimsolls would do the trick nicely, prehaps turn the legs up once, natural make up and hair in a high pony or bun if that's something your hair will allow for.

But as the photo is, i think you look great.

Fairybio · 28/07/2020 09:44

I am wearing almost exactly the same thing today, including a stripy top. I am 50, and LOVE my dungarees. They are a million times more comfortable than jeans.

I'm off to IKEA with my 22 and 19 year olds, and they won't bat an eyelid.

notacooldad · 28/07/2020 09:48

Your age and same is fine but I seriously wouldnt be wearing them for a day out with glamorous people, even to tbe woods! I would feel like trade person ragging a long to give someone a quote.
I would keep the dungarees and wear them another time , but not with glam people around.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 28/07/2020 09:59

You look so lovely OP and I bet a million times better than your friends!

jellybe · 28/07/2020 10:01

Looks fab. Nothing big and wobbly about you. Wear what you want and feel fab in it.

user327253 · 28/07/2020 10:04

I love dungarees. Have a look at Lucy and Yak. They have a great supportive Facebook group too.

Iloveliberty · 28/07/2020 10:23

They look great ! I’d roll the bottoms and wear them with plain white sneakers and a white tee shirt. Hope you have a fabulous day out 😊

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/07/2020 10:29

They have a great supportive Facebook group too.

Wait now - we need support groups for wearing dungarees?Shock

GlubGlubGlub · 28/07/2020 10:39

You look really lovely. I agree that a t shirt might look better the Breton.

notacooldad · 28/07/2020 12:09

I Have Lived Too Long
Me too.
To be honest I think dungarees are best for decorators, toddlers and members of Dexys midnight runners and don't suit most people no matter how slim they are. There's always better options.

user327253 · 28/07/2020 12:19

@PerditaProvokesEnmity I didn't say a support group Hmm. I said a supportive group. The brand do a lot of limited edition prints and it's a good place to buy and sell and reccommend coordinating clothes and get fashion ideas. But it's a great group for constructive criticism on which sizing and styles suit people's body shapes. Somewhere where people who share the same sense of style aren't going to accuse them of wearing toddler clothes.

dressedfordistress · 28/07/2020 12:26

You look good OP. Don't put yourself down!

Paint your nails, wear some hoop earrings/bangles/headband etc and that will make you feel a bit more polished maybe?

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/07/2020 12:29

But ...Confused A supportive group provides ... support. No?

Distinction without a difference my friend.

Sorry! Grin It just tickled my imagination. Everyone sitting in a circle holding hands -

"My name is user327253 and I am a dungaree wearer ..."

Branleuse · 28/07/2020 12:39

thye look fab, but then again, im on the dungaree group on fb

JaneJeffer · 28/07/2020 12:41

I now have a whole Dungarees Anonymous scenario going on in my headGrin

sugarbum · 28/07/2020 12:43

Op go out in your dungarees and rock them. You have a great figure and I love dungas.
I have some myself and I'm a size 20 and at 45 have learnt that
a) no-one gives a monkeys what I wear and if they do and they are my friend, they aren't going to say so anyway
and b) I wear what I like. I don't wear clothes to 'fit in'. I'm too old for that shit.

Doodar · 28/07/2020 13:35

you look great
