Best foundation?

Sorry if this has been done before, but I have just spent lots on Elizabeth Arden stuff and the foundation (cream compact type, first time I have used anything so heavy but I need it!)and it seems to emphasize bad points not hide them. My pores look huge and it makes me look washed out. Also feels heavy as am used to liquid lighter ones. So what do others use? Like the idea of a compact as it seems quicker. Am a SAHM but do have the occasional night out and like to wear a bit of make up in the day anyway to look human.

Unless you need heavy duty coverage (which it doesn't sound as though you do) you could try a tinted moisturiser. Laura Mercier (available from Space NK) do the best one ever. Alternatively, try Chanel's Vitalumiere. I've got the solid, compact version and it is quite easy to put on just a light layer.

I gave up foundation a few years ago in exchange for generous use of touche eclat plus clinique powder. really lifts my face, evens it out, gets rid of bags - but totally light and natural looking

DrNortherner · 30/09/2007 22:29

I use Este Lauder Individualist. It's fantastic.

Transforms dull, sallow tired skin. I never leave the house without it.

Satine the solid one sounds good, is it drying though? Hatwoman thanks, have wanted touche eclat for years, maybe will get it anyway. Sounds like my summer "face" but partly I need more cos have just had my hair coloured and they did it too dark and it seems I need lots of make up to look alive.

Watling, thanks have got dry ish skin but want some thing quick to do, that doesn't feel or look heavy for day but covers me up enough so I look healthy(with blusher/bronzer too!) Had a clinique light one which made my skin look lovely but was maybe a bit light as have got open pores particularly since using the Arden one for some reason!

Hmm I know this is really bad but I often resort to wiping with a baby wipe at night! In the morning I use a scrub though and moisturise otherwise my skin feels awful.

Kerrymum I can't really afford it. Got boots and debenhams vouchers though

Ah I see, I don't get into"proper town" often so be difficult to try lots but could you recommend any or is it too dependant on skin type etc? This teint eclat for instance, might that be too heavy for day?

Hello,

I'm a recent convert to mineral foundation. I use a LilyLolo one. They're not too pricy and they really work. Better for skin than normal foundation too. You can order little sample sizes for next to nothing and try them out at home before you decide if you want to buy a full size pot. It's really cut down the time I spend on make up. I used to do the whole concealer, foundation, powder thing whereas now I just dust on a bit of mineral powder and I'm done.

I used to have one of those Elizabeth Arden ones and it was horrible! I just remember it feeling really heavy on my skin...almost like I was wearing a layer of plastic or something.

I agree with Watling about the skincare routine. However expensive your foundation is, it'll look rubbish if your skin's not in good nick. A gentle cleanser and moisturiser sound like a good starting point. BTW, I've just discovered a new Estee Lauder product for open pores (think it's called Idealist). It really does improve the appearance of open pores. Not cheap though.

ooh thanks miss bumpy, is that the site where you can order mini sample pots to try colour etc? Pore minimising thing sounds good, the foundation is rubbish, I'm actually relieved it's not just me having manky skin, it really does feel like a layer of SOMETHING on my skin! What a waste!
