To dye my hair or not dye my hair? (Pic)

What colour would you say my hair is: Auburn? This is my natural colour but I am totally bored with it now and getting my hair done tomorrow. But of course now that I am about to get my hair done people are telling me how lovely it looks!

I'm late 20s now and my hair has darkened a lot and I miss its lighter coppery vibrancy. I'm thinking I might look better with a more Jessica Chastain strawberry blonde colour.

So: keep my colour or go for Jessica's colour?

Your hair is gorgeous... you've got a kind of accidental/natural balayage going on.

People would pay £££££ for your hair colour.

If you wanted to, you could have a bit more colour through the ends but I wouldn't go for an all-over colour and nothing like the example (Jessica Chastain) you sent. I don't know who she is but her hair colour would be really ageing on you.

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 17:08

Oooh I'm just not sure. I do fancy a change. I see what you mean about baylage, not sure how that has occurred to be honest!

I basically look identical to my aunt except she has blonde hair and because I've worn blonde wigs at Halloween I know I suit the colour (not blonde but for strawberry blonde).

Do you not think my hair looks a bit dull? It used to be so much more vibrant and I feel a bit depressed about the way it has changed.

I've already paid the deposit on the hair and plan to attend so I need to do something!

@Maria53 I’d echo what pp said. Your hair is a beautiful colour. Maybe get some shampoo and conditioners for auburn hair or treat yourself to a hair mask more regularly. I’d keep it.

Orchidflower1 · 17/07/2020 17:12

Seen your update- slight cross post. Could you have a trim with the deposit money?

GeneralPinoChez · 17/07/2020 17:15

No, I don't think it looks dull. I think it'd benefit from some deep conditioning treatment which would bring out a nice shine. I think you'd also feel better if you styled it too - a few loose curls or tussled curls would look great. Would you consider a side parting to change things up a bit?

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 17:16

No the deposit is for colour only, nearly £30. And I do want to do something as I am bored with my hair and feel it lacks vibrancy/looks too brown. I have fancied peach/strawberry blonde for a while.

I am getting my hair cut separately. Dont ask. My usual hairdresser couldnt fit me in for a cut so I'm going to a separate place. A bit annoying but there you go!

Also while you are here - I have a heart shaped face and am wondering if you have recommendations for nice styles? To slim the face a bit.

Yes @GeneralPinoChez I am considering a side parting. Had bangs for years now.

A side-parting with some layers/feathering (but not too early-2000s style) would slim your face really well.

I love a fringe but I think it needs to be really sleek and stylish to carry off without looking about 9 years old Grin

TheGriffle · 17/07/2020 17:26

Wow, I didn’t realise hair could change colour that much, there is a big difference between your old colour and the new growth. It is much darker than before so I can understand you wanting to go lighter. No advice sorry but I was shocked hair changes that much! Mines always been boring brown.

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 17:28

I do fancy the change. I just wonder how easy it will be to get my old colour back if I want to?

I like this colour. This is more like it used to look.

I love the peachy colour and think you should go for it! You paid the deposit for a reason Grin
Your natural hair is a lovely colour btw!

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 17:43

Which colour @Notglam ? The original pic in my OP or the one I just posted? Smile

Going against the grain here, but I think that new colour would suit you.
Also think your hair would benefit from a good cut and shape to frame your face, it just looks a bit all over the place right now

Bloops · 17/07/2020 17:44

If you got the ends the strawberry blonde colour, that'd look pretty awesome! Like a gradual fade

Zofloramummy · 17/07/2020 17:48

I like your plan to go lighter, it’s summer and why not? Hair grows back to its normal colour eventually. I used to be (naturally) a bright light blonde until my mid 30’s I’m still blonde but it’s more mid ashy blonde. I feel your pain!

FredaFox · 17/07/2020 17:50

As a natural red head who’s locks have also lost vibrancy I say go for it!

Evelefteden · 17/07/2020 17:53

I love the new colour but it depends on your skin tone. Can it carry off that colour?

Evelefteden · 17/07/2020 17:54

I just want to add by dd is natural red head and her hair is gorgeous but she bleaches it blonde Sad

I love red hair!

BestestBrownies · 17/07/2020 17:58

Go for the colour in your second picture OP (possibly two-tone with blonder highlights), it’s gorgeous and close enough to your original shade to suit your colouring etc.

I am very envious of your lovely thick locks. Enjoy showing them off!

Proudtocare · 17/07/2020 18:00

It's really pretty. Superdrug do a shampoo which tints your hair and conditions, wash out. Think what hint of a tint that we use to get in the 80s, early 90s. They are only about £1.50

OldLace · 17/07/2020 18:03

the colour in the 2nd pic is lovely.

but then so is your natural two tone colour in your original pic

Can you have a colour / conditioning semi permanant 'wash' put in so you dont lose your deposit?

But, bear in mind I am biased - I use box dye.
I cracked last week and bunged some more on.
I wish I hadn't :(

Hugsgalore · 17/07/2020 18:03

I think some nice high and low lights around your own shade would bring you hair to life. Highlights only through the ends. If that makes sense!!

I think you should stay within a shade or two of your own colour. Your natural hair is beautiful by the way.

I would steer clear of too many layers though

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 18:07

That is what I am thinking @BestestBrownies. The 2nd pic seems close enough to natural shade, maybe a couple lighter?

I almost feel like I need to get it out of my system/need a shake up. As i said my aunt who has same skin tone has natural blonde hair and looks great. I think I do need some warmth though, which 2nd pic has (OP pic maybe a bit too light).
