Are Dr Martens worth the money?

I live for a chunky boot with a floaty dress. I have a bad back so I need comfy foot wear. Are Dr Martens worth the price tag?

I think so they certainly cleared up my cats fleas.

AnyFucker · 16/07/2020 20:59

Cleared up fleas ? Confused

Yes, I believe they the price tag is justified. I only have the Chelsea boot type but they are worth every penny of the £149 I paid for them.

Myusernam · 16/07/2020 21:02

🤣🤣🤣

Thanks Anyfucker. Are they true to size?

Pebblexox · 16/07/2020 21:03

Yes definitely!
In terms of size, I go between a 7 and an 8 and I wear a 7 in docs.

TheoriginalLEM · 16/07/2020 21:03

Yes!! Some will say the quality has gone down now they are no longer made in UK however you can still buy made in UK DMs but they are £££.

I bought a pair of soft leather DMs two years ago and worn pretty much constantly, they are still like new.

Im not brave enough for a hard paor of lace ups - you have to break your feet in.

Bought DD a pair of DM shoes for school last year. I was aghast at paying over £100 for a pair of school shoes but i usually end up buying three pairs a year due to wear and tear, but she will be wearing them again this year (yr 11 her feet have stopped growing). So more economical in the long rin, they are like new.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 16/07/2020 21:05

I loooooove my DrMs

chunkyrun · 16/07/2020 21:09

I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole one day

Now watching this cobbler take apart popular footwear for reviews is now a hobby of mine

Myusernam · 16/07/2020 21:10

I really want the smooth leather Jadon ones but I'm scared incase the platform sole is a bit clunky

Yes! I need comfy shoes because of my bunion and live in Docs, I have a plain pair for work and a few others. They last forever and go with everything !
Currently wearing these ones.

Are Dr Martens worth the money?
OldSpeclkledHen · 16/07/2020 21:17

Love mine, got the soft leather UK ones, 8 lace in cherry red.

Go with everything 🙂

Sorry not sure what style you're after though! Don't think soles are too clunky (but that's just me😉)

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 16/07/2020 21:21

My mistake I was thinking of Bob Matins Confused

TheHobbitMum · 16/07/2020 21:21

Yes definitely worth the money! I've just bought steel toe capped boots for work Grin I go up a size in them weirdly

Myusernam · 16/07/2020 21:21

Glad to hear they are getting so much love! Time to drop some hints for my upcoming birthday! 🤣

I love my dm 8 eyelet boots. The good thing about them is that the need breaking in which people just aren't used to anymore... which means lots of nearly new pairs on eBay for silly money still in their boxes with barely a grain of dirt on the sole, especiiallyy if they were bought for a teen,as lots of my size (5) were. Themore you wear the boots the better they get. You can fast forward the process by wearing them round the house with damp socks. Last forever... Except the patent ones which can crack...

ShowOfHands · 16/07/2020 21:23

I live in them. I've got a couple of pairs over 20 years old. I have boots, shoes, sandals, Mary Janes, steelies.I adore them. Comfortable, hard-wearing, look great.

Bluewavescrashing · 16/07/2020 21:24

I have the Mary Janes and they are gorgeously comfortable. I have tiny feet so ordered children's ones, much cheaper!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/07/2020 21:26

I love mine. I have 3 pairs The Who ones, ones with skulls and some with hearts on. I usually wear a size 6 but buy 5s in DMs.

I got all mine in sales but if say they are definitely worth the money . Even full price

Ratonastick · 16/07/2020 21:30

I have a pair of 8 eyelet cherry red boots that I wear every winter. I reckon that, on average, I wear them three times a week for about 5 months of the year. My current pair (not my first) are about 10 years old and still look fantastic. So yes, if you like the style, they are worth every penny.

And as an aside, I am old. When I was young they were cherry red, now they are “merlot”.

Iwanttobefreetobeme · 16/07/2020 21:33

Idk I think it depends ... The U.K. made ones are great, I had a pair last me 2008-2015. Bought some new ones in 2018 (a fancy colour, prob not UK made) and they barely lasted the year ....

VelvetRibbon · 16/07/2020 21:34

Worth every penny, although I did get the For Life ones which I don't think they do any more unfortunately. I did my research at the DM shop and found the 'cheaper' ones felt a bit more plasticky, so I would recommend getting a premium treated leather. As PP says they go with everything which I love. Stomping on the beach? Perfect. Day in London? Perfect. I also find them very warm in winter. I sized down for mine but I think they were more unisex sizing.

SeraphinaDombegh · 16/07/2020 21:41

I bought a pair of the soft leather knee high classic DMs last winter. They were £200, which is about £125 more than I've ever paid for shoes before 😱 but they're absolutely worth that. So so comfortable (after breaking my heels in) and they look FANTASTIC.

Alderaan · 16/07/2020 21:47

My docs cured my plantar faciiitis! They help with 12.5 hour shifts.

I go for the soft leather ones so they don't need to be broken in. I wear the next size up though (normally an 8, but a 9 in DMs

Valambtine · 16/07/2020 21:51

Many years ago I worked in a small town in Northamptonshire that hosted a Dr Marten's show factory. It employed a HUGE number of local workers. After it closed down in the early 2000s the small town suffered terribly with very high unemployment, drugs etc and hasn't fully recovered 20 years later. For that reason I do not buy Dr Marten's shoes.

DrWAnker · 16/07/2020 21:57

I had DMs as a teen and loved them.
I bought a pair just as a little Christmas present to myself last year and they are the business.
I don't much like socks and I can wear them without and they are still extremely comfortable.
They are my favourite footwear.
