What does this mean - hairdresser

Booked in tommorw with my hairdresser, very exciting! I am booked in as the first appt of the day otherwhys I would telephone tommorow to clarify!

This evening my hairdresser emailed me a list of new salon rules due to Covid, one of which is:

" for all hair treatments please arrive with clean dry hair to lessen contact time"

I'm only going in for a cut not getting it dyed etc. My hair is quite curly and gets dry and angry if washed more than every 3 days or so. Would you read "hair treatment" as being for people coming in for highlights or dying and so on or for anyone getting their hair done?

Potentially relevant - my hairdresser is Russian and so English is not her first language, I could see her using treatment to mean both situations.

I'd assume they expect everyone to come with clean washed hair as they won't be doing any unnecessary washing or blow drying. Clearly highlights will need washing out after but probably just towel drying if so.

OatcakeCravings · 16/07/2020 20:54

I noticed at my DS’s barber that they have asked that all customers wash their hair before getting a hair cut - presumably some sort of Covid cleanliness thing?

BikeRunSki · 16/07/2020 20:59

I’d think it meant cuts as well as colours, but I feel your pain, I only wash my dry, curly once or twice a week max

WrinklesShminkles · 16/07/2020 21:04

If it meant all services, wouldn't it have just said "everyone must arrive with clean dry hair"? I think it means dyeing and similar treatments.
Anyway, probably no harm done if you turn up with unwashed hair. If it is wrong it'll mean she realises the notice is unclear and should be clarified.

Mnhealth202020 · 16/07/2020 21:32

I read that as everyone has to come in with freshly washed hair

SunbathingDragon · 16/07/2020 21:34

I also read it as everyone coming in with freshly washed hair and based on what a lot of others have said about their return to the salon, it seems to be the new norm.

Mnhealth202020 · 16/07/2020 21:34

I know it’s annoying for you, but it’s a one-off? Your hair will be styled tomorrow and looking lovely, you can the continue with your 3 day wash cycle as normal afterwards

Gamble66 · 16/07/2020 21:51

Please wash your hair x

Browzingss · 16/07/2020 21:52

Sorry, am I missing something here? If you get your hair washed at the salon as part of your appointment tomorrow, would washing it 12 hours earlier (now) really make a difference? I know it’s going to get double washed but as a one-off your hair shouldn’t get angry. The salon will use moisturising hair care if your hair seems dry as they wash it

JayAlfredPrufrock · 16/07/2020 21:53

Weird. My hairdresser washed my hair as normal and blow dryer it.

jaffacakeany1 · 16/07/2020 21:56

She's emailed you? Can't you just email back and ask her to clarify? I'm a hairdresser and we insist on shampooing in salon to ensure hair is virus free.

ShopTattsyrup · 16/07/2020 22:30

@jaffacakeany1 I only just got the email at about 2030, she had sent it much earlier during office hours and my appointment is a 0900 tommorow or I would have clarified myself Smile

Thanks for the input everyone! I'll wash tonight, and if she ends up rewashing tommorow morning just hope she takes pity on my hair and puts a very strong mask treatment on my hair Grin

I'm also booked in tomorrow and my hairdresser has said the same thing, she mentioned they are following recommended published guidelines. They are still washing and blowdrying clients hair but have been advised that it should be clean, they said washed day before is fine, to reduce transmission risk.

islockdownoveryet · 16/07/2020 23:01

No I want told this I went to have highlights put in and didn't wash it but it was washed the day before.
They washed and dried hair for all .
I was just told to wear a mask and they took temperature plus the track and trace details .

AnnaSW1 · 16/07/2020 23:14

It think it means everyone should arrive with clean hair. Surely it's always the right thing to arrive at the hairdressers with clean hair.

AnnaSW1 · 16/07/2020 23:15

This is what was requested for my haircut last week.

ShopTattsyrup · 16/07/2020 23:20

@AnnaSW1 Oh for sure - I wasn't suggesting rocking up with actively dirty hair! I just wasn't clear if it meant "clean" or "freshly washed" Smile

I had mine cut on Monday, there was no requirement to wash my hair before I went.

imnottoofussed · 17/07/2020 01:31

I had mine cut last week, she said if I didn't want it washing there (I usually have a dry cut) then I had to arrive with it freshly washed and dried

Ginkypig · 17/07/2020 02:04

I just think she means clean dry hair as obviously hair salons won't be doing any drying as the hair dryers are not a good idea at the moment.

LaureBerthaud · 17/07/2020 12:24

If someone comes in for a colour, do you shampoo and dry before applying the colour?

LaureBerthaud · 17/07/2020 12:25

@Ginkypig - there is no official advice that hairdryers shouldn't be used in salons.

Mine was blow dried exactly as it was before lockdown.
MyEnormousTurnip · 17/07/2020 12:33

Mine was washed and blow dried yesterday - all procedures the same really just wearing ppe and disposable gown.

Mnhealth202020 · 17/07/2020 13:58

Why do people on this website keep saying this? In reality salons are carrying out blow dries as normal
