I need a REALLY gritty body scrub

Hi all,

I suffer with bad ingrown hairs on my legs. I find that if I exfoliate before I shave it really helps and that’s why I am looking for a really, really tough and gritty exfoliater!

I can only ever seem to find gentle ones that don’t do anything for the ingrowns.

Can anyone recommend a scrub?

Thanks xxx

Have you tried a chemical exfoliant? I reckon some glycolic acid would work well, it would probably be effective than a scrub.

I find Soap and Glory Breakfast Scrub pretty decent in that sense

Dontknownow86 · 12/07/2020 14:33

Soap and glory scrub of your life is ok and sanctuary salt scrub (either individually sachets out the jar) is brilliant.

Theaspidistraiswilting · 12/07/2020 14:34

I used to suffer from this. What helped was scrubbing gloves and then buying a Phillips lumea laser - brilliant! Used it twice on my underarms and 4 times on my legs (expect to do a top up every 3 months) and chicken legs and ingrown hairs gone. Not cheap but I think worth it!

Scrubby gloves from superdrug or boots. Quite cheap, let them dry out and wash them regularly. Put normal shower gel on them, or a nice oil and scrub in little circles.

That and Palmer's AHA body lotion on most mornings after shower.

Hey presto no more ingrowing hairs

Sanctuary Salt Scrub. I've also found an Argan Oil one in Waitrose which is excellent - white squeezy bottle, gold lid. Both leave my skin bump-free and very smooth.

Have you considered Korean towels? I recently bought some following years of recommendations on here. What came in the packet was three little green pockets of finely abrasive thin material. I have put my bars of soap in them and use one for face, one for body. Brilliant. Dds are going to use it for their bumpy upper arms to exfoliate.

LadyFlumpalot · 12/07/2020 15:01

Half a mug of granulated sugar and some cheap and cheerful conditioner mixed together works wonders in my opinion! It's biodegradable, cheap, and really works well to exfoliate.

Ok, I haven't tried it on my legs for ingrown hairs, but I enjoy tinkering around with cars and it does wonders for getting car muck out of my hands and arms and doesn't leave them dry and painful.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 12/07/2020 15:04

Sanctuary salt scrub. I have horrendous lockdown skin and it's really sorted it.

Eesha · 12/07/2020 15:47

Korean cloths are great, really smoothed my skin. Soap and glory salt scrub is excellent too.

MoltonSilver · 12/07/2020 16:50

I'd go for glycolic acid instead.

Poppyolive90 · 12/07/2020 16:53

I also use Soap and Glory Breakfast Scrub. I use it with these gloves which I find better than usual ones

You're not meant to use soap with them.

Damp skin, dry or just damp cloth.

SoddingWeddings · 12/07/2020 17:07

Use Clarins bamboo scrub - it's amazing anyway.

Use a proper product to stop ingrowing hairs - Tend Skin is brilliant.

magicmallow · 12/07/2020 17:09

I've just tried the Korean Italy towels and they are amazing! Worth reading some of the threads on here. Baby soft legs for the first time in years!!! They are cheap too and easily availble on ebay etc.

magicmallow · 12/07/2020 17:09

Another great and easy one is mix sugar and oil (e.g. olive oil). Works a treat and leaves you so so soft!

bigcatlittlecatcardboardbox · 12/07/2020 17:13

The Bondi Sands one is fab and smells LUSH. I fake tan constantly and use this to take off mistakes, it's tough stuff.

northnorth · 12/07/2020 20:40

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions - I now don’t know which one to pick and try Grin

Salux cloth. Amazon have them. Shits all over any body scrub!

LavenderHills · 15/07/2020 02:06

Another vote for Soap and Glory! Fantastic and cheap Grin

Spinningdot · 15/07/2020 17:59

Korean cloths for occasional use - have a good long soak in the bath first time you use one & it'll lift loads of dead skin then a salux cloth for frequent use - I use it everyday in the shower. Both are available on amazon.

Spinningdot · 15/07/2020 18:00

Try a good natural bristle body brush too for dry skin brushing

PlanDeRaccordement · 15/07/2020 18:04

As a suggestion, you could buy those loofah discs for the face and just use them on your legs with your current favourite soap or shower gel. It’s much cheaper than buying a specific scrub that then also clogs your drains.

Smashtastic · 15/07/2020 18:05

Rock salt + Olive oil/almond oil. Be careful in the shower!

If you want a scrub for your face use caster sugar and either olive or almond oil.

In either recipe you can add a 'treatment' essential oil so for eg teatree and eucalyptus for blemishes. Just a couple of drops per two tbsp of carrier oil.
