I wanted to love the Teva sandals I ordered

I ordered the hurricane drift in black and the Universal Original in white from ASOS.

I have size 6, wide feet.

I didn’t like the look of the hurricane drift as they were very plasticky, but they looked dreadful on. The Universal looked better but again, the footbed was a weird shape and stuck out round my foot. I should have taken a photo to demonstrate but I repacked them in horror and hot footed it to the post office for returning.

Are you meant to size down? Did I order the wrong styles/colours? The models online manage to make them look cool, I looked like a clown with a penchant for hiking. 😫

Too expensive or out of stock in my size I probably should have said. If anyone sees some nice ones in a size 6 for £40 or under please let me know!

I’ve gone for these at Urban Outfitters. I also had a 25% off code and I think there’s a generic 20% off if you join the membership rewards. www.urbanoutfitters.com/en-gb/shop/teva-universal-white-flatform-sandals2?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=010&searchparams=q%3Dteva%2520glatform&type=REGULAR&quantity=1 They come in a size 6 too Wink

You are an enabler! 😆 that’s a very good price. Update when they arrive to say if they are keepers or not!

I have some Teva flip flops and they are the only pair I have ever been able to wear and also super comfy foamy sole. Flip flops usually very uncomfortable as I have narrow feet and a huge gap between my toes

I’ve tried the sandals but they just look terrible on my massive feet

Not really sandals but very comfy

The black Universal originals I ordered just arrived 🙂.

Sizing down was a mistake my toes hung over the edge in a 5. The size 6 look like this. I think solid black may be too much for me, and the clip by my right ankle feels like it might irritate me. Each step does feel like a little foot massage though!

They look ok I think. I mean you look lovely despite the sandals Wink Some people really like the look of those sandals, I've seen lots of people out in them.. so if you like them. I think I'd prefer a a more subtle colour..maybe patterned?

Sorry, another unhelpful post from me. Grin

Ah thanks. I think you were right about the black/white thing though. I’ve found a patterned pair for £40, so I’m going to have one last shot at it! My husband said my feet looked like they belonged to a dad off on a camping adventure 🤨

AHaha I thought I was far more tactful than your dh. For all he knows, that was the look you were going for.

Good luck with the patterned ones. Hope you love them this time!

Honestly, the amount of angst and deliberation you are putting into this, I don't think Tevas are for you. Ask yourself this; sizing issues aside, did you want to wear them out immediately you put them on and did you feel good in them? No you didn't.

I speak as someone who is terrible for buying for a lifestyle I don't have but who is latterly trying to curb this; the amount of money I have wasted and time eBaying barely worn stuff for half what it cost me is shameful. Honestly not throwing shade, am trying to help!

They are a practical walking sandal designed for a purpose and not fashion but have been appropriated for a particular -fugly - trend. You either get that or you don't.

MulberryPeony · 10/07/2020 08:46

I don’t mind them on you but I don’t think the vibe you are looking for works with the outfit you have on. They look a bit ‘sensible’ iyswim? Swap the trousers for cut off jeans or the top for something more either grungy, boho or Scandinavian architect.

This is what I was trying to say, better put. If you want them for fashion, you need to embrace the whole look and the rest of your outfit doesn't. If you want a pair of really comfortable sandals and care less about trends, knock yourself out.

Oh yes, I completely agree, and I am a lover of the Swedish architect look. I did contemplate changing for the photo but couldn’t be bothered 😅

This is so funny - not so long ago people would not be seen dead in Tevas and they were only worn by old men with socks , shorts and skinny legs . Now they are a fashion or a lifestyle ? [big grin]

Yeah I got what you were saying. I knew what I was wearing did them no favours, but it was a bumming around the house day, so wasn’t really worrying about what I chucked on when I got dressed, and then I was too lazy to change for trying them on.

I want both though, sandals that are comfy and look good 😅

penguin it’s true, and the same thing happened to Birkenstock’s - while in some parts of the world Clark’s shoes have been seen as the ultimate in cool.

I love it because it makes flat, comfortable shoes fashionable which works for me and I think is good for people generally (especially women)

Squiz81 · 10/07/2020 11:02

I agree @JoysOfString I had the same conversation with my husband last night when he was surprised Tevas had become “trendy”. I hope there is a shift towards comfy and practical 😅. I’m 39, my knees are a bit dodgy, I’m done with anything that isn’t comfortable, shoes or clothes.

Teva success! I ordered these Sanborn ones and they are much comfier round my ankles and a better fit.

How did you get on with yours @MulberryPeony?

Never heard of them but had a google and they look very similar to something that my Grandad used to wear to trek up mountains in during the summer holidays of my childhood. They didn’t look good on him in 1987 and they won’t look good on me now, especially as I’ve got big feet!

JoysOfString · 13/07/2020 10:21

They look great squiz!

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/07/2020 10:35

That was worth the effort OP as the last picture is 👌

PAND0RA · 13/07/2020 11:05

I agree, they are much nicer. Well done OP.

SmileyClare · 13/07/2020 11:08

Glad you've found your sandal holy grail!

And who knew The Swedish Architect was a look? If that's what your trouser suit thing is, then it's a good look. You look great.

My0My · 13/07/2020 11:12

In terms of Style and Beauty: they are neither are they? Just practical sandals. A bit like the Victorian idea of galoshes. Practical. No style and certainly not beauty!
