Is there anything that can be done about middle-aged(ish) sagging jawline?

I don't mean changing due to weight gain, just how it starts to sag a bit compared to the young 'uns. I am mid-40s. Is there anything that actually does tighten it up a bit? Thanks!

You'll have to go your research but in order of low to high effort: Facial massage, micro-needling & fibroblast plasma pen treatments.
I spent ages watching fibroblasting videos on YouTube! It's like witchcraft!

I’ve had ultherapy on this area. Apparently it’s one of the treatments Jennifer Anniston favours. It’s painful and expensive, it left me very bruised for about 10 days and it took a long time to make a difference (nearly a year) but it was very good eventually and has lasted a couple of years. I’d love to have it done again but it is £3000 a time and I can’t justify that. If the clinic ever did a half price offer I’d be there like a shot.

MolotovMocktail · 04/07/2020 17:37

Surgery! I think you can waste so much money on ultherapy etc which gives only a subtle result for £££. I’ll be saving up for a lower face lift when the time comes I think.

For something less drastic you could use fillers, some in the cheeks to lift the jowls and a bit along the jaw line to even it out.

PartyCat · 04/07/2020 18:24

Thanks all, as I feared it is all about the money/surgery. I am not sure I have much faith (or the energy to put in) that the face/neck exercises will have any real effect, but if someone knows differently, and can link to something that works, please let me know! Thanks for your replies everyone.

I like Facerobics on Youtube . That link is to the level 1 exercises that you do for 6 weeks, then you move onto her level 2 playlist for 6 weeks and so on. I did it 5 days a week for 12 weeks and my face was noticeably tighter, but then I stopped for 6 months and I look like a melted candle again, so I think consistency is the key! It takes around 10-15 minutes per day.

I'm going to try fillers in my jaw line when I can get back to my nurse Botox therapist. The before and after photos look great. I've had fillers in my cheeks lots of times so I'm not worried about getting them in another area.

TornadoOfSouls · 05/07/2020 09:32

On Ten Years Younger they got amazing results with fillers.

DameDoom · 05/07/2020 11:35

I have had cheek fillers in the past with good results but the time has come when it’s not enough. I had booked in for ultherapy before lockdown and it gave me time for a rethink. I am now booked in for a mini-facelift on 23rd of July instead. It will be done under local. The surgeon is excellent but I am a bit anxious. Just want my jowls gone.
I am happy to post before and after pics - could even do a bit of a ‘recovery’ journey photo diary if that would be helpful to anyone else considering the same.

Planetaryexplorer · 05/07/2020 11:43

DameDoom Can I ask how old you are please? I'm 41 and have my first consultation for fillers next week. I hate my sagging cheeks and jaw line. Just wondering whether I save myself the bother and go straight for a face lift...

A diary would also be great. I'd love to see before and afters.

DameDoom · 05/07/2020 11:50

I am 48. Had surgery last year and went into surgical menopause which greatly exacerbated jowls and sagging. A friend had her mini-lift last month and her jowls were heavier than mine are at the minute and I was absolutely gobsmacked at her result. She has a lovely, defined jawline now and no sag at all. That was the decider for me.

DameDoom · 05/07/2020 11:54

I was surprised that cosmetic surgery was going ahead in lockdown but the surgeon has his own medical clinic so not a hospital. He has been doing mini-lifts and eye bags under local throughout.

Othering · 05/07/2020 11:54

Cheek and jawline fillers in 40s, face-lift in 50s.

Hedgehog123 · 05/07/2020 12:02

Can I ask how you chose your surgeon DameDoom? Have you had a recommendation or did you research them in another way? Would be really interested in hearing how you get on.

PerfidiousAlbion · 05/07/2020 12:02

@DameDoom I’d be very interested in hearing about your journey as this is something I’m considering now as the CACI and fillers just don’t cut it in your fifties.

DameDoom · 05/07/2020 12:05

Here is a pic of my jowly bits - surgeon says I should get a good result. If yours aren’t as bad, cheek filler should definitely be a goer.

Recommendations through friends and friends of friends plus plenty background research. he owns this clinic in York.

DameDoom you have lovely skin, I think you’ll get a really fab result. Would love to hear about your journey and recovery.

Hedgehog123 · 05/07/2020 12:54

Thanks for your reply DameDoom - you already look great! Hope to hear how you get on.

Othering · 05/07/2020 13:13

Dame doom, you look fantastic! Great skin and hair.

Look at Dominic Brays work.

PerfidiousAlbion · 05/07/2020 14:43

Dominic Bray is in another league, price-wise. Between £12,000 & £25,000 I believe. I’m also not keen on how all his patients have their ears sewn back on much lower down the face, so it appears theyre growing out of the neck.

PerfidiousAlbion · 05/07/2020 14:44

@DameDoom you look great by the way.

DameDoom · 05/07/2020 14:58

Thank you - I had just had my hair done that day - it’s not like that now!

morriseysquif · 05/07/2020 17:15

Try some face exercises, I'm doing some from an App called Faceworks and Facial Yoga. I look fresher and less tired.

Can I ask where you are having your surgery? I am considering this along with eyebag removal
Soulstirring · 06/07/2020 18:46

@damedoom oooh please keep us
Updated! I am very close to York and unhappy with my jowls. I have no lines/wrinkle at all but my jawline isn’t great and gives my age away. I’d love to see your results.
