What will fade age spots?

Stressingismyhobby · 23/06/2020 00:24

I'm currently using TO niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and rosehip oil plus Inkey retinol. I also use spf during the day. What should I add to this lot that might help to fade two faint age spots?

If it helps, I have combination skin.

Getting plenty of Zinc in your diet is good for this.

Muscle meat is good (chicken thighs/drumsticks), whole grains and milk products are good sources.

Breakfast cereals often have zinc. Oysters, red meat, and poultry are excellent sources of zinc. Almost all beans, chickpeas, and nuts such as cashews and almonds also contain zinc.

Following as I have one area that just won't go 🤞

Stressingismyhobby · 23/06/2020 08:44

How does eating zinc help? (Genuine question!)

No idea. Google it?

It really worked for me and other friends who have tried it. Obviously a healthy nutritious diet has to be good for you overall.

The health supplement companies sell it as tablets, saying it is good for immunity, the brain, bones, eyes, skin, hair and nails.

Apparently our bodies cannot store zinc, but you need it. Smile

Sunscreen every day

Vitamin C will fade sunspots.

GoldenZigZag · 23/06/2020 12:03

Retinol and Vitamin C

Cocolapew · 23/06/2020 12:06

I'm using Superdrug vitamin c drops after reading about it on here last week and can already see a difference.

Esbm2015 · 23/06/2020 21:20

Cocoalapew which vitamin c drops are they from Superdrug? Coming to the end of my current cream and fancy a change.

dancemom · 23/06/2020 21:22

@Cocolapew do you rub them directly on to your age spots or add them to your moisturiser?

nearlynermal · 23/06/2020 21:25

IPL - type laser treatment works well. Pricey though.

Cocolapew · 23/06/2020 23:01

I'm using this one, I put it straight onto my face but it says you can mix it with your moisturiser.
I have a large age spot on my jaw and it has definitely faded.

I think what you're doing will work. It just takes time I got rid of mine with tretinoin but it took over a year.

Immigrantsong · 23/06/2020 23:06

Sunscreen
Vitamin A- Retinol, but ideally Tretinoin
Vitamin B - Niaciamide, apply at night before Retinol or Tretinoin as it can reduce irritation
Vitamin C - am, before sunblock

Azelaic acid - Finacea 15% or Skinoren 20% from GP

kojolo · 24/06/2020 06:30

You can get a prescription for hydroquinone.

ParadiseLaundry · 24/06/2020 06:35

I echo others that sunscreen and Vitamin C are good for this.

Alpha Arbutin is good for this too. TO do a serum with Alpha Arbutin and Vitamin C that is pretty good.

Thanks Cocolapew - will give this a go i think.

It’s interesting that nutritional needs are ignored in favour of expensive creams etc.

The power of advertising?

Anotheruser02 · 24/06/2020 16:10

I think it's the power of active ingredients swim, they do work.

Laiste · 24/06/2020 17:06

Decent (as in 50spf) sunscreen on the age spots religiously every day if you're going out of the house worked for me. Took about 6 months.

This was back of the hands.

I have a bottle of sunscreen everywhere all year round. One in the car, one in the hall, one in with my moisturisers, little on in my handbag. No excuses that way Grin

Laiste · 24/06/2020 17:08

Interestingly i do take a zinc tablet every morning. Had no idea it was good for age spots. I'm taking it for ..... hair and nails if i remember correctly :)

shoehoard · 24/06/2020 17:36

I've used vitamin c serum worked really well on mine but took a while

swimlyn · 24/06/2020 18:06

I think it's the power of active ingredients swim, they do work.

That may well be the case, but is that really preferred to well thought-out nutrition?

That basic nutrition is significantly cheaper too. Some of these ‘things’ are a tenner a teaspoon or more.

Knowing what your body needs and providing it used to be taught in schools.

GoldenZigZag · 24/06/2020 19:32

Bollocks Swim, my bottle of Niacinamide cost 2.99 and will last months. My Vitamin C, although not the strongest concentration, cost in the region of a fiver. Effective skin care is very affordable these days.

And topical application of active ingredients is a far quicker way of treating age spots than diet. Stop being so sanctimonious.

KaptainKaveman · 24/06/2020 22:26

Which one do you useplease Goldenzigzag ?
