Babyliss big hair - should I get one?

I’m growing out a very short bob. It’s now about an inch past my jaw. My hair is ridiculously thin and fine. Each strand is barely visible but I have enough of it to grow it to collar bone length I think. I’ve been looking at the Babyliss big hair and just can’t decide if getting one would safely give my hair more volume and if being slightly clumsy whether I’m going to end up with it stuck in my hair and wrecking it. If any of you have one would you recommend it.

I prefer the Revlon one step hairdryer brush. It’s easier to use and give really good volume and smoothy nice hair.

crimsonlake · 22/06/2020 08:15

I have had one for years and have fine hair.
Some people probably swear by them, but I do not find it makes much of a difference to mine.
It would be hard to get your hair tangled and you quickly get used to it.
One thing I ould mention is that due to the pulling, rolling action I notice a lot of hair gets pulled out in the roller brush. If your hair is really thin I would possibly stay away from it.

ihatethecold · 22/06/2020 08:19

I had a babyliss one and it broke After a few months. I’ve replaced it with the Revlon one and its much better.

isabellerossignol · 22/06/2020 08:23

I had the Babyliss and loved it but it didn't last very long before the motor burned out, and I wasn't using it every day.

I have the Revlon now and it seems much more robust.

Inaquandry19 · 22/06/2020 08:28

My hair is similar and I love mine. 90% dry with a normal hairdryer first though, otherwise you will be there all day. A bit of mousse and the volume stays in my hair all day, that has never happened before.

chubbyhotchoc · 22/06/2020 08:36

The bristles go flat. The revlon one step is better

TeaAndHobnob · 22/06/2020 08:38

Can you do curls/waves with the revlon? What products do you put in your hair? I usually just blow dry smooth ish but I quite fancy some nice waves

DesperateNan · 22/06/2020 08:39

Thank you everyone. That’s really helpful. I’ve looked at videos of the Revlon one-step but it looks like they are being tugged so hard through the hair and I’m worried about damage/loss as my hair is so thin.

crimsonlake. Lots of hair getting pulled out in the brush is absolutely not what I need.

Agree with others, have had a Revlon for nearly 2 years, replaced a burnt out Babyliss. It doesn’t rotate and doesn’t get quite such a bounce as the Babyliss does, but for longevity there’s been no issues, and my hair seems less flat the day after.

Mrstwiddle · 22/06/2020 08:44

Oh and re hair loss, it does pull hairs out, but so would a brush if I used that and a hair dryer, not sure there’s a significant difference.

DesperateNan · 22/06/2020 08:47

Thanks Mrstwiddle. So would it be fair to say the revlon wouldn’t pull out any more hair than a barrel brush and hairdryer combination?

I got the baby loss big hair and sent it back within a week. Did absolutely nothing for me but my hair is long and curly and it’s thick-ish.
I got the revlon one step and use it daily.

Buddyelf · 22/06/2020 08:51

*babyliss

Inforthelonghaul · 22/06/2020 08:52

I have the slimmer babyliss one and when I want my hair to look groomed it’s brilliant. Once you get the hang of it it works really well though as a player said hair has to 90% dry first. I don’t think it pulls out hair any more than just brushing freshly washed hair but I have thick hair so not something I give much thought to but I’ve only dehaired mine a couple of time in about 3 years.

DanceForMeColin · 22/06/2020 10:30

You can have mine for a tenner @DesperateNan - i've used it 3 times and it does nothing but tangle my hair

DesperateNan · 22/06/2020 14:34

Danceforme. Thanks for the offer. It sounds a bit of a hazard though and my hair is fragile enough without getting it tangled.

I've used both. Agree that the Babyliss pulled out lots of hair. Haven't had any issues with the Revlon. I really rate the Revlon, for me it's been a game changer.

Inkpaperstars · 22/06/2020 15:40

I actually really like the babyliss big hair and haven't found it pulled hair out, but..now I am intrigued by the Revlon...

I've had the Babyliss for over a decade and it's still as good as new. I have wavy / frizzy hair and it straightens and smoothes it perfectly.

Ginfizzlife · 22/06/2020 16:19

Another vote for the Revlon One Step over the Babyliss Big Hair, it’s miles better. Doesn’t rip your hair out and definitely leaves it smoother. The Babyliss one has been confined to the bottom of the drawer never to be seen again.

Coffeepot72 · 22/06/2020 16:40

I swear by the Babyliss, I can never negotiate a brush and hairdryer at the same time, so it’s been a game changer. The revlon just looks like a normal hot air styler, unless I’m missing something?

amarante · 22/06/2020 19:19

Hi can I have yours if still available?
Inkpaperstars · 22/06/2020 21:15

If the Revlon one doesn't rotate does that mean it is less good for straightening naturally curly or wavy hair? The rotation on the Babyliss seems to help with keeping the hair pulled taut while drying. Also the rotation helps with doing curl under or out at the bottom.

Beachlovingirl · 22/06/2020 22:42

When I look at photos of me with my hair done with the big hair I cringe. It makes my fine hair have a kind of thin “stringy” effect on the ends, and the roots are all volume.
Maybe with a straight bottom cut it’s better tho.
