Lockdown beauty hacks you will continue to use

Lockdown life has cut us of from hairdressers and beauty salons and in some cases our favourite brands - what hacks have you discovered that you'll continue using after lockdown?

Stick on false nails! I had to soak off my gel nails pretty early on and have discovered stick on nails which look amazing and stay on for at least a week - 10 days! I'll never go back to expensive gel nails that grow out.

Gradual tan moisturising lotion has also been a revelation, that keeps your tan topped up. I'm not sure I'll ever get a salon spray tan again.

I'm wearing less makeup and my skin is glowing, I'll be trying to go foundation free when I get back to work.

Although my hair is shocking....and I'm in desperate need of a cut and colour!

@fuuuuk I'm a 32G and have Bralets!

fuuuuuuck · 12/06/2020 19:53

@namesnamesnamesnames that's more like it!! Where do gig get yours from please?!

namesnamesnamesnames · 12/06/2020 19:55

Honestly I don't know the difference between browzer and shaving! The 'blade' isn't sharp like a razor. I just had had enough and went for it!

namesnamesnamesnames · 12/06/2020 19:56

@fuuuuuuck just M&S They're very cheap. They're comfy but I wear a usual bra for work and going into public without a coat!

YouTube workouts in front of mirror rather than paying to go to a class. Took a few days to get used to it but I’m converted.

I can learn in my own time, don’t have to deal with bitchy fitness class social politics (you’re standing in MY space kind of thing)/instructor favourites and it’s free and the quality/varied of instruction is absolutely wonderful.

Not epilating so often!

janet1267 · 12/06/2020 20:25

Giving up Botox. I'm in my early 50s and have been having it 2/3 times a year for over 10 years. At the start of lockdown I felt quite anxious that I would be missing my appointment.

Twelve weeks on I don't look that different! But I think my face actually looks softer and prettier. A couple of people have asked me if I've lost weight and someone said to me that I look younger! (They didn't know I've had botox, or if they did they never said....)

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 12/06/2020 20:29

yoga and weights with You tube in my living room, so much easier and an do it more often - so many different options, have noticed the difference with access to different routines and styles, Cycling is good and I’ll be continuing that (although some twats in a car decided to slow down to comment on my very average arse One night which actually shook me up as I was on my own - wtf - never had that in a gym)

AlphaDalpha · 12/06/2020 20:31

Light tanning water, it's a revaluation!

Also caffeine on eye bags

Lockdownhairdontcare · 12/06/2020 21:23

No more lip/chin or eyebrow waxing... £15 tweezers! Gone back to shaving legs and underarms too.

Trimming my own fringe between cuts. Colour not actually needed monthly, could easily go six to eight weeks.

Home bargains coconut foot socks and scholl pedi!

fitbciz1 · 13/06/2020 08:31

One step gel. I was a regular salon goer for gel manicures and pedicures, and had done my own Sensationail in the past. The one step gel is so much less faff - no primer, top/base coat, no tacky layer to wipe off. It also lasts really well.

I will go back to the salon as I want to support them, but probably not as often.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 13/06/2020 08:47

@Ginsmything please could you recommend which wraps are best? I have never tried them and obviously all my gel polish had to come off.Grin

Ginsmything · 13/06/2020 11:48

@Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel Ive only used them twice myself. I bought some from Amazon a pack of about 12 different designs. I watched a video on YouTube to see how to apply them. It’s really easy and they have lasted about a week HTH

GabrielleChanel · 13/06/2020 16:56

What caffeine on eyebags alpha?

Whattodotho · 13/06/2020 17:06

@Bigsighall what was the kit called can we have a pic please? :)

Helpmyhair2019 · 13/06/2020 17:17

Ooooh thanks so much for the Hollywood browzer suggestion. Mine arrived today and the result is just as good as when I have them threaded plus only took 6/7 mins and cost £8! Will never get them threaded again! Now to brave the eyebrow dye!

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 14/06/2020 21:44

@Ginsmything thank you. I'll check them out and look at YouTube too Smile

Liskee · 11/07/2020 09:47

Holywood Browzer convert here too! I am delighted with my home sculpted and dyed brows (and lashes) and £20 a month saved 👍👍

TooGood2BeTrue · 11/07/2020 10:32

I have resisted plucking my facial hair and it's turned light and soft again and is therefore not really very visible anymore.

trumpisaflump · 11/07/2020 10:46

Hmmm I'm not sure if I'm using the Hollywood browser correctly on my brows. Do you just use the corner of the blade? So it's kind of just shaving your eyebrows? I didn't find it made any difference when I did this but maybe my eyebrows weren't long enough.

AnnaNimmity · 11/07/2020 10:59

None for me - I'm too time poor and Cack handed and I realise that I actually like the pampering element (feeling that I'm indulging myself) of going to the beautician or hairdresser

But I do have a facial hair removing thing recommended by India knight that was ok, had no problems trimming my hair , don't mind sorting out my own undercarriage

Not so good on the manicures and pedicures

sophiestew · 11/07/2020 12:01

Loving this thread.

I also didn't know I could put a semi permanent on my highlighted hair! This could save me lots of money!

I tried the eyelure brow dye but it didn't take at all on my very pale and very sparse eyebrows, even when I left it on for ages. I might try the Just for Men Beard dye and see how that goes.
