Lockdown beauty hacks you will continue to use

Lockdown life has cut us of from hairdressers and beauty salons and in some cases our favourite brands - what hacks have you discovered that you'll continue using after lockdown?

Stick on false nails! I had to soak off my gel nails pretty early on and have discovered stick on nails which look amazing and stay on for at least a week - 10 days! I'll never go back to expensive gel nails that grow out.

Gradual tan moisturising lotion has also been a revelation, that keeps your tan topped up. I'm not sure I'll ever get a salon spray tan again.

I'm wearing less makeup and my skin is glowing, I'll be trying to go foundation free when I get back to work.

Although my hair is shocking....and I'm in desperate need of a cut and colour!

I have had good success with DD involved in plucking my eyebrows and dying them (usually have both done by beautician). Not brave enough to try dying my eyelashes or getting my DD to do it (using Dyelure sold on Amazon). Really easy and excellent results.

I am letting my hair go grey but the cut is absolutely awful now.

@bunhead34 I got the lash lift kit from amazon (about £25 but will do 5-6 times I reckon) and followed the instructions. It was simple honest!
I bought the mylee lash and brow tint kit (about £20 but seems to do numerous applications) and again it was really easy altho I had to google the instructions coz it wasn’t that clear. I was impressed with the results.

Oh thank you @trumpisaflump I will investigate!

cicatrix1 · 11/06/2020 19:21

I've been using skinfood (weleda)on my face over lockdown .
love it! .very rich and greasy but super hydrating for my 55 year old dehydrated sensitive skin.

bronzedgodesswannabe · 11/06/2020 19:55

St tropez face tanning mist
I wear spf 50 on my face everyday (only started in lockdown) but tan my body so I was looking really weird
I sprayed it on two days in a row and my face matches my body
It's honestly a revelation

I wish I had done this years ago because I'm pretty sure I've caused a lot of skin damage from sun bathing so much

Never again will I tan my face naturally 😂

Ooh, good call! I'm a SPF50 girl too and my face is looking quite ghostly

Love these ideas. I’ve done DH’s hair, it was easier than I thought and he’s chuffed to bits with the result so he’s asked me to keep doing it and I’m happy to. He’s doing my fringe and it’s equally good, very pleased.

I’m going to look into brow dying, never had it done before but my brows are quite fair. How long does it last and does a clutz have a chance at success?

Suzie6789 · 11/06/2020 20:50

I’ve found out I can wax and tweeze my eyebrows into a decent shape and also tint them using dyebrow. I’ll never pay £15 again for this.
I’ve always been able to do own nails With regular polish but I’m considering Buying a lamp for gels as I do like a gel mani, but note sure what to buy?

Just try it, it’s very easy. In addition to the dye you need cotton wool and some Vaseline. Mine lasts about 3 weeks, the dye costs £8 and will last for many applications.

Helpmyhair2019 · 11/06/2020 20:55

Oooh what eplialtor can you buy to do the same as eyebrow threading?

Splattherat · 11/06/2020 21:00

I used this stuff based on reviews on Amazon. It was easy for my 15 year old DD to use on me. Its supposed to last 6 weeks and I am on week 3 and still looking good. At least as good a result as the beautician achieved.

I got this tip from here a long time ago and have done it for a few years. Just for Men beard dye for eyebrows. Pick it up on offer and for less than a fiver I can dye my eyebrows about 10 times.

Vaseline around the edge and they dye in 5 mins. So easy.

BillBaileysBum · 11/06/2020 21:06

Home lash lifters- what happens at the end, how do you get from the bed with your eyes shut to having it all washed off??

SenselessUbiquity · 11/06/2020 21:10

Can I ask about the Browzer - what is the difference between it and shaving your face?

JaneJeffer · 11/06/2020 21:14

I will stock up on Aldi Q10 serum. I finished an old one I found in a drawer and it made my skin look really healthy.

GlassHouseYouGlassHouse · 11/06/2020 21:16

I've started using those Clarins facial tanning drops as my daily spf 50 was keeping my face pasty while the rest of my body unavoidably browned in all of the lockdown sun exposure. Revelation! They are incredible. I look naturally sunkissed, not a hint of orange Tango, and overall healthier.

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/06/2020 21:38

I found a brand new box of it in my bathroom overflow cupboard JaneJeffer and I’ve been using it for the last month or so. It’s amazing! Must have bought it over a year ago and never used it so didn’t know if it was still available but hoping so, love it.

JaneJeffer · 11/06/2020 21:45

Mine was so old it was in a glass bottle Anne GrinI looked it up and they still do it but changed to plastic packaging which seems very environment unfriendly of them!

Liskee · 11/06/2020 22:15

Tan, eyebrow and eyelash dyes, by hair dyes and I'm building up to having DH cut my hair!

Liskee · 11/06/2020 22:15

Box hair dyes Wink

Imissmoominmama · 11/06/2020 22:31

I’ve been tinting my brows too, but I daren’t tint my lashes.

I ordered a Josh Wood semi permanent gloss for my hair and I love it. It says it doesn’t cover grey hair but it’s softened my white streak to blonde, so now it tones better with the rest of my hair- it’s in better condition too.

I can’t wait to get a proper haircut and pedicure though!

danuta22 · 11/06/2020 22:35

which gradual tanner do you use, please? I never seem to get it right!

namesnamesnamesnames · 11/06/2020 22:40

Fab thread. I bought a Hollywood Browzer like a pp, was nervous about blunt ends growing through so only intended to do my upper lip. Turns out it's quite compulsive and I did my whole face!

namesnamesnamesnames · 11/06/2020 22:40

Not my brows though, too nervous for that!

SenselessUbiquity · 11/06/2020 22:48

ooooh names, tell me about the browzer. why is it not like shaving?
