Is it worth it? I don’t use one but I’ve been reading lots about them.

Have used The Ordinary Retinol for quite a while, thought I saw a difference at first then not so much. Then tried the A313 cream after researching it and reading good reviews, however, made my skin so horribly itchy and hot I could not sleep. Maybe just too strong for me. Currently using Dermatica Tretinoin followed by Weleda Skin Food at night. Been using for a few weeks and very happy with result. Skin smooth, feels slightly more plumped, lines maybe less noticeable. Will continue with this Smile

For those who use it and day you notice a difference - in what way ?
What is the difference it makes to your skin ?

ParadiseLaundry · 09/06/2020 05:46

I think it makes my skin look more plumped up and the texture smoother, pores are less noticeable. Also I was starting to get some fine tunes around my eyes, they seem to have gone.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/06/2020 08:51

If you don’t use a strong sunblock with retinol you will get hyperpigmentation 🤦🏻‍♀️

MabelMoo23 · 09/06/2020 09:10

I use retinol. I have started with the Inkey list as it’s a gentle starter one and wasn’t too expensive. You can use moisturiser after retinol but make sure it doesn’t contain any actives. Just something hydrating.

Only use it at night, and you MUST use SPF as retinol increases photo sensitivity in the skin.

I’m going to work my way up once I finish the Inkey list. I will probably use Medik8 crystal rentinol next, before going to Dermatica tretenoin which is very potent and can only be done via Dermatica

I’m 43

No adverse effects after last nights new regime. My face is like a beacon this morning with this sunscreen on it though Shock

I jumped in and bought some Ordinary 0.2% retinol on the back of this thread.

It's just been delivered and says to store in the fridge. I'm incredibly lazy and not sure I'll have the motivation to go back downstairs after I've washed my face!

Any ideas if it's be ok to store in a cool part of the bathroom? Obviously not fridge temperature but not a hot spot.

ParadiseLaundry · 12/06/2020 09:22

Hmm, I have the 0.5% version and have never noticed that. I'm stuck under a sleeping baby atm though so can't check the label. I've had mine 10 months and although I've kept it in the original box and in a drawer out of sunlight it hasn't seen a fridge. It still seems ok though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/06/2020 10:38

Don’t forget to us it on necks and chests.

Treacletoots · 12/06/2020 10:42

If you can't get the retinol from The Ordinary, try Good Molecules. Very similar.

However I personally use the granactive retinoid and my skin feels quite honestly amazing.

I started investigating during lockdown and have now invested in most of the products from The Ordinary. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Sadbridetobe · 12/06/2020 10:43

How long does it take to see a difference? Only using it once a week to begin with is a bit crap but I understand why!

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/06/2020 10:48

I give everything 3 months. Sink or swim in this house.

Rocaille · 12/06/2020 12:52

I use The Ordinary 1% Retinol in Squalane, usually layered with A313 over the top, as an occlusive.

I've definitely seen a significant improvement, especially with my wrinkles which are less deep than they were previously.

I also use an ascorbic acid serum, but I attribute most of the effects I've seen to the retinol.

ParadiseLaundry · 16/06/2020 13:11

I forgot to wear sunscreen the other day and in the afternoon we went in the garden because it wasn't raining for the first time in ages. Also didn't wear my hat as was only out for a few mins (forgot that I wasn't wearing sunscreen). I also had my back to the sun as i was holding baby.

I SWEAR I now have a very pale brown patch of hyperpigmentation on my cheekbone and I thought of @Fluffycloudland77 s post straight away about pigmentation, so definitely remember sunscreen everyday people!

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/06/2020 13:33

You can join me on the learn the hard way bench too 😃

Sadbridetobe · 16/06/2020 13:42

I’m on my second week here with no ill effects whatsoever. When do you think I can increase to twice a week?

I am hating having to wear sunscreen on my face though. The one I was using I’m sure was giving me spots so another arrived today - make up doesn’t seem to agree with it though.

ParadiseLaundry · 16/06/2020 14:05

Fluffycloud what did you use for the hyperpigmentation if you don't mind me asking? I use the ordinary Vit c and alpha Arbutin but that was more for fading acne scars. Hopefully everyone else can benefit from our experience now then!

Sadbridetobe, I see you said you have dry skin, I have been using this by Dr Jart and I absolutely adore it, it feels more like a treatment than a sunscreen, very moisturising.

It's a colour correcting treatment for redness technically but with spf30 (I usually wear a hat outside anyway) but I think it would work well for dry skin.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/06/2020 14:10

Retinol!.

Sadbridetobe · 16/06/2020 14:13

Oh thank you! I’ll look into that. Colour correcting sounds really good too.

jeez20 · 16/06/2020 15:15

Use the proper stuff not anything you can buy in a shop it's not strong enough! You will suffer at first from red, sore peeling skin but that's what it's meant to do.

I've just ordered it from an online pharmacy in Spain it's called retrides. It's their equivalent of tretinoin. Cost around £40 (shipping was £13)

I signed up to dermatica and it was awful, huge breakouts after 1 night of using and the tretinoin is very weak, I still had my slight suntan after trying it for 2 weeks! Also there is no way that tiny bottle would last a month!
