What for dry, rough, stinging sensitive face with rosacea?

Coffeeonadrip · 06/06/2020 22:49

Any magical creams I can try?

My face is dry to the point of feeling rough and flaky (clearly visible through foundation) but it's sensitive and I have rosacea on my nose and top of my cheeks.

It does not like most stuff as they leave my skin tight and burning and even more red. None of the la Roche posay, avene type brands seem to work. At the moment I'm using a Polish brand Ziaja Med and it's been fine but have used it for over a year and it's less and less effective.

Any recommendations will be greatly received!

The Superdrug simply pure hydration serum might be worth a go, it has ceramides in and I find it really soothing. Plus it's about £3 so you could always use it up on your hands or neck if it doesn't work!

I’m using a new product called Kalmes and it’s lovely.

My skin looks good.

thesunwillout · 07/06/2020 00:21

Cetaphill?

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 07/06/2020 01:14

I have rosacea and have had the stinging moments too. At the moment I use Clinique redness solutions or REN Evercalm in the morning, and an oil - Balance Me or Aurelia followed by Neal's Yard frankincense hydrating cream at night (there is also a nourishing cream that might be better for dry skin, but the reviews suggest it contains more potential irritants). My skin was bad last winter and I really pared down my routine and stopped using toners and serums. I hated doing it as in my head I love trying new things! If home in the day with no make up I put some extra moisturiser on whenever my skin feels tight.

Dr Hauschka cleansing milk or cream and then the quince cream in the morning, no cream at night. Some people prefer the Melissa cream which is currently on offer. I’d never use anything else now (over ten years and counting)!

Aquamarine1029 · 07/06/2020 02:07

At night, I would use organic almond oil.

Have you tried E45 lotion? Not everyone can use it but it is brilliant for dry rough skin. I also use Eve Lom cleanser, which is good on sensitive skin.

Coffeeonadrip · 07/06/2020 09:48

Thanks everyone! Lots of options to look at! Smile

What does everyone think of Waleda?

I use the Neals Yard Rose moisturiser, though it honks a bit. I also use a big pot of blue Nivea and that is very moisturising and doesnt aggravate my rosacea. I also use the Body shop aloe vera cleanser and toner which are lovely, though it found moisturiser a bit sticky and it left a film.

Ordinary E45 doesn't do anything for my skin but I find the E45 eczema repair cream very good.

Cicapair range by Dr Jart is lovely, it's really made a difference to my skin which can be very sensitive and prone to redness.

Have you tried Aveeno?

I've been fighting this for years and tried everything to no avail! Before lockdown i went for a dermatologist consultation. She properly assessed my skin and we made a plan of action.
I'm still on the first stages of the plan using ZO skincare. It gets worse before it gets better but I'm noticing improvements.
I'm due to start on the next stage of products soon once I've used up this lot.
It's expensive but after trying for so long to help this and the fact it's on my face and I can't hide it I went for it.
I can't leave the house without make up as my skin is so bad and even make up doesn't sit right due to my skin being bad underneath!
For years I've had to wear a full face of makeup even just for a 5 minute school run as I'm so self conscious of it.
Lockdown has had the good point for me being able to be make up free for a few months 😂.
I'm definitely seeing a difference so if you can afford it and it impacts on your life as much as it does mine you should try it.

I have rosacea .Kalme was very soothing during a flare up . At the moment I'm using Cerave cleanser & spf cream. Bland soothing simple lotions are the best things to use. I use an azelaic acid serum at night by Gow which really helps reduce redness. Plus Soolantra is very effective for the bumpy type of Rosacea.
The products you are using are cosmaceuticals and I don't know what's in them. But it sounds very expensive and you really need something simple and basic. Any products should soothe your skin within a couple of days.

I had problems with this - I think my skin had just become really sensitised as after going back down to minimal products I've been able to reintroduce quite a lot of products really slowly. I'm a product junkie so not being able to try new stuff was a real pain. I do still flush badly with alcohol and have virtually stopped drinking as a result.

Clinique take the day off (TTDO) solid oil cleanser is very neutral so I went back to just using that and my "safe" moisturiser (the now discontinued Liz Earle one for dry / sensitive skin).

I used this until my face had totally calmed down and then reintroduced new products one at at a time, a minimum of a week apart.

I now use - LRP Toleraine/ clinique TTDO to cleanse with a bit of Avene if I'm travelling as I have a small bottle of it. I didn't get on with REN Evercalm it is too scented. I've just ordered Beauty Pie japan fusion cleanser as it gets great reviews.

I've added in some actives - beauty pie Vit C capsules AM and hydraluronic acid AM & PM (this is great for dehydrated skin - I've used The Ordinary, Beauty Pie capsules and have just opened Super Facialist serum version - it smells vile so wouldn't recommend, other two were good and I would repurchase). I also use the LRP Rosaliac serum AM & PM at this stage too.

Moisturiser-wise I've been flirting with CeraVe and the new formulation of Liz Earle. Not decided what I'm going to use long term. I also have a sample of a nice looking organic moisturiser from a small Hertfordshire company that I got in the recent JL beauty box.

I use sunscreen every day - Ren CleanScreen and Kiehl's ultra facial both don't trigger reactions. Caroline Hirons argues that a lot of sunscreen allergy may actually be due to inadequate removal. Hence double cleansing in the evenings.

My skin is looking better than ever.

A cosmetic doctor friend recommended Rosacure which you can buy online and another one recommended Dermalex which is over the counter. Because my skin settled I didn't try either of these.

I would look for a serum that will heal and help reduce the sensitivity of your skin. I have been using Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective gel serum for about 6 months now and the difference in my skin is incredible.

I also really like Comfort Zone Sublime Skin Essence. It's fantastically soothing and great for reducing redness. I found it when on holiday In Belgium and having a major skin reactive episode. It completely calmed and and sorted my skin within a day.

Sounds like you've got a damaged moisture barrier which can make your skin really dry and sensitive. I have bad rosacea and all I use is the blue nivea, I use it to cleanse and moisturise. Works like a dream, nothing else can do the same job.

nibdedibble · 07/06/2020 13:18

If my skin gets really bad I use Kiehl's Cica something (google) which is really good in an emergency, as a night cream etc.
Day to day I discovered that Liz Earle does a fragrance free moisturiser. It's £44 per pot but it really is good and I can use it around my eyes with no stinging. I'd rather not be paying that much but it's very good and everything else was failing.

I've tried the blue nivea but it just sat on top of my skin, instead of sinking in?
I think with lots of skin conditions there is no one size fits all and unfortunately rosacea comes in many forms!
I found my skin was kind of swollen and almost like it had a layer over it were nothing could get in.
As I say I'm only on phase one of the skincare but have managed to break down that layer. My rosacea is pretty bad though I look like I have acne and at 35 that ain't good 🙈

wowfudge · 07/06/2020 18:14

I asked for help here earlier this year and blue Nivea cream was recommended by several posters. I bought some and have been using it daily. It is greasier and heavier than lots of other creams, but I have found that massaging it in rather than just spreading it on my skin has made a huge difference to my skin. As I've not been wearing make up whilst I'm working from home I've actually looked at my skin and think I have rosacea, not just dry skin. The Nivea has definitely helped.

TheSmelliestHouse · 07/06/2020 18:17

Had same issue for 30 years now. Only thing I can use without redness, tingling, pain etc is clarins. Costs a fortune but does last. I use serum often to repair.

Aethelthryth · 07/06/2020 18:17

Another vote for Blue Nivea
