What for dry, rough, stinging sensitive face with rosacea?

Coffeeonadrip · 06/06/2020 22:49

Any magical creams I can try?

My face is dry to the point of feeling rough and flaky (clearly visible through foundation) but it's sensitive and I have rosacea on my nose and top of my cheeks.

It does not like most stuff as they leave my skin tight and burning and even more red. None of the la Roche posay, avene type brands seem to work. At the moment I'm using a Polish brand Ziaja Med and it's been fine but have used it for over a year and it's less and less effective.

Any recommendations will be greatly received!

I startec using Lush Dream Cream on mine about a week ago and there has been a huge improvement but it it a bit cyclical so it might be a coincidence. This time last week it was red, rough and tingling, today it's totally normal. I cleanse with something mild like E45 and a flannel, exfoliate with Lush Angels on Bare Skin and use Ultrasun Face for SPF.

Is the blue Nivea scented, can anyone tell me?

crazycatbaby · 08/06/2020 09:33

Is clinical pro heal serum 🙌🏼 pricey but really helps my skin when it flares up

wowfudge · 08/06/2020 09:36

The blue Nivea has a light, distinctive smell rather than being heavily frangranced.

I have rosacea and this is my current regime, which has my skin looking and feeling the best it has been in years.
AM: Superdrug simply pure micellar oil used as a face wash, followed by the ordinary hyaluronic acid, and nivea Q10 day cream.
PM: Body Shop chamomile cleansing butter (double cleanse) then the ordinary niaciminide, the ordinary azelaic acid, and nivea Q10 night cream

greycover · 08/06/2020 10:03

I have found my perfect routine recently and it's cheap as chips:

Garnier micellar cleanser
LRP spritz
The Ordinary Niacinamide
The Ordinary squalane

I like the Ordinary because the the ingredients are minimal and the labelling is easy and clear.

Niacinamide has really helped the redness on my cheeks. It's amazing and under a tenner

Dermol cream from the GP

Chardonnay73 · 08/06/2020 13:44

Rosalique. It’s changed my skin from fire engine red to normal. It’s a green cream that magically turns flesh coloured when you rub it in, wear it alone or put foundation over it. It’s not cheap at £23 but honestly it’s the best thing I’ve ever tried.

MistsofAvalon · 08/06/2020 14:05

I started using Soolantra for rosacea after recommendations on here - it's prescription only but I did an online consultation via an online pharmacy. It's helped enormously after 2 years of sore, rough, itchy skin.

I'm still using it but not every day as I was for the first 3 months, just a few times per week now. One tube lasted 3 months so it was worth the money (about £35). It made a difference in a matter of days. My skin is so much more comfortable, it looks and feels better and I can wear foundation again.

A huge improvement and I'm very grateful to the people on here who recommended it.

I have dry atopic skin with eczema and a bit of rosacea. I pared back all my skincare and started using only the cetaphil pro 'eczema prone' wash and moisturiser. It has been really good. I can also tolerate straight jojoba oil, so I've now started mixing a few drops with the cetaphil moisturiser which feels lovely. All together they seem to help maintain my skin barrier in cold dry air during the day (which my skin is not very good at doing by itself). I'd second the pp saying try cutting things out of your routine - you could try starting from scratch 1 thing at a time as in my experience it is v easy for a product to be contributing to dryness / rosacea without me realising

ParadiseLaundry · 08/06/2020 14:09

Thanks @wowfudge might be cheap enough that I can give it a try. I watched a YouTube video comparing it to Creme DeLa Mer and saying it had a lot of very similar ingredients!

ParadiseLaundry · 08/06/2020 14:11

Here it is if anyone is interested. Sorry for derailing your thread coffeeonadrip.

Coffeeonadrip · 08/06/2020 21:03

@ParadiseLaundry no worries! Thank you all! I'm trying to figure out what the best routine would be, so many options now! At the moment it's only: facewash, cream day nad night and every few days the hot cloth buttery cleanser from boots botanicals range (which I actually really like!). Maybe my current routine is not too basic???

I have rosacea and use Soolantra as well from an online pharmacy. First tube lasted a month using it every day. I'm on my second tube now and oh my god the improvement is astounding. I have pics if you want to see them. £37/tube was definitely worth it.

Jamnotjelly · 10/06/2020 04:13

Hi OP it is easy to get swamped by options isn't it! I think your routine is only too basic if it is missing out on giving your skin something that it needs (eg not enough moisture / protective barrier ingredient, if you need that) - equally the routine could be not basic enough if there are any ingredients in your products that are too much for your skin. Eg I found that my moisturisers weren't the issue so much as my facewash which was too harsh and drying, so my moisturisers were just trying to fight a losing battle of trying to undo the damage I did every time I washed my face. If you haven't investigated that already you can do a bit of a test by moisturising your face half an hour before washing it (so it is nice and not tight/dry), then washing your face and leaving it to dry without moisturising and seeing how it feels. If it feels good or only a little tight then probably AOK. If it feels super tight and uncomfortable then in addition to cleaning any dirt off you've probably washed all the good moisture/oils out as well, so it might be worth trying a more gentle moisturising cleanser. Sorry if you've tried all this already!

Jamnotjelly · 10/06/2020 04:30

Oh and also I'm not sure if you wear makeup regularly but if it is feasible to take a break from foundation etc for a bit and only wash your face once a day instead of twice that can help with figuring out where the dryness / sensitising is being triggered. Makeup and excess washing are both problematic for me (but I realise not for everyone - I just mean cutting back and starting from as little as possible can help build back up a routine and product collection that works well for you)

chatwoo · 10/06/2020 06:44

I've got rosacea and try to keep a simple routine:

Cleanse - Lush Ultrabland or the Inky List oat cleanser.
Moisturise - I was using the Medik8 anti redness moisturiser, but it's very expensive for a small tube. Have now gone the opposite price direction and using the Aldi hyaluronic stuff plus moisturiser.
Tone - Pixi retinol tonic 1-2 times a week.

I've used soolantra in the past for the redness caused by rosacea, and am also going to start a course of laser treatments for the visible capillaries, as they make up a lot of my redness.

Coffeeonadrip · 10/06/2020 22:10

@Jamnotjelly thank you! This sounds great, I'll test it tomorrow. I have a feeling you might be right about the face wash (even though it's supposedly aimed at rosacea Hmm).

Thank you everyone!
