HI
I would like to buy some Arizona Birkenstocks. As they are unisex
would you buy narrow or normal width and what are the sizes like.
I am a 39 - size 6 and thinking of getting size 5.5/6.
Also are they comfy
Thanks

I live in them. I have fairly normal feet and never get narrow. I usually wear a 7 and go for the 41 in Birkenstock sandals. I don't size down.

they are extremely compy and last (I live in mine in the summers and get usually a 5-6 summers of wear).

feet need to get used to them. I sometimes get blisters on the sole of my feet while 'breaking them in'... so wear them at home or on short trips for a bit before you go on a long hike.

Boldercakes · 04/06/2020 08:30

breaking in just takes a week with regular wear at home. Never a year for me Shock

SuckingDieselFella · 04/06/2020 08:52

What about width?

My feet are very wide (E). I've seen a nice metallic pair but they're supposed to be a narrow fit. Are they actually narrow or is this another way of saying they're a women's sandal?

fizzpopbang123 · 04/06/2020 09:06

I go down a size in regular fit and true to size in the narrow fit.

SuckingDieselFellaI don't think the narrow fit are narrow if you don't normally worry about such things, I don't have wide feet and find them pretty standard, but if you do actually have wide fit then they may not be for you.

OP for a newbie to Birkenstocks, I'd go a style with a soft footbed, they really are more comfortable. Lots of places only seem to sell the SFB in a narrow fit, but the official website sells both. I'd really recommend getting your correct fit and size rather than go for a bargain, as they will last for years.

I think I must have Birkenstock shaped feet too. I buy my regular size and have done for almost 20 years. No breaking-in required. I bought a pair on holiday once and wore them every day without issue.

Bertucci · 04/06/2020 09:45

I don’t have to break them in at all.

I love Arizonas.

Campervan69 · 04/06/2020 09:49

I get a couple of new pairs of Myaris every year. I have never had any problems with comfort. You can buy them in in slim or wide fit I believe.

Zinnia · 04/06/2020 11:49

@SuckingDeiselFella if you have wide fit get the regular (ie not narrow) fitting Birkenstocks.

AlpineSnow · 04/06/2020 11:53

I must have birkenstock shaped feet too as I've been buying them for 10 years and never needed to break them in. Never had them fall apart either. I love my new Yaos. So comfy

I have my eye on a regular metallic pair from White Stuff. Hope they aren't painful to break in.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/06/2020 12:43

I'm normally a somewhere between a 6 & 7 in Clarke's, Jones, Adidas, general high street shoes but take a 35 in Birks (& still have room). I love Mayari's & have 4 different pairs. They've never rubbed me at all.

Branleuse · 04/06/2020 12:48

I find them true to size and very comfortable

Sooverthemill · 04/06/2020 13:53

Wearing in length depends on style. Ime the leather ones take longer. I've bought and worn the unbuckle cork soled ones immediately on holiday. The vegan ones are comfy straight off. My Eva ones ditto but my big buckle leather straps and leather soles took about a week of wearing a couple of hours a day. I have too many pairs! Love them and have been wearing the brand on and off since the 80s. My oldest current pair are 8 years old and I wear them a lot. My newest pair arrived last week...

Sooverthemill · 04/06/2020 13:53

Not 'unbuckle'! Nubuck

Sooverthemill · 04/06/2020 13:54

Oh and I am a size 4. I buy 37 narrow or 36 wide

fizzpopbang123 · 04/06/2020 18:02

SuckingDieselFella well those White Stuff ones if they are pewter metallic, are soft foot bed as well as regular fit, so a good pair to try! Although ime, the metallic leather uppers are very rigid, I think it must be the metallic finish because normal leather ones are softer. So maybe don't launch into a 5km trek or anything first trip!

SuckingDieselFella · 04/06/2020 19:10

Good to know!

GrumpyHoonMain · 04/06/2020 19:15

I wear narrow fit shoes and find even the narrow fit sized like other brands’ wide fit.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/06/2020 19:15

I am a 42 in other shoes, and wear a 41 narrow fit in Birkenstocks. I have 7 pairs Blush including 2 pairs of Arizonas.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/06/2020 19:16

Yaos are the comfiest for me.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/06/2020 19:18

Forgot the Evas. 8 pairs! Evas are narrower I think.

Troels · 04/06/2020 19:42

I get the Arizona nubuck ones have done since the 80's. normal width size 38 as I size down. I soak them while wearing them the first time and do lots of walking about while they dry out on my feet this was easy living in a hot country, not so much now
In nearly 30 years I've had 4 pairs, they last so well.

SuckingDieselFella · 09/06/2020 16:05

My Birkies have arrived.

Do they hurt around the arches until you break them in?

Or is this a sign they're not for me?

Troels · 09/06/2020 17:03

For me I can feel them pressing the arch when they are brand new, but break in pretty well. I broke the last pair in wearing a pair of fluffy socks and using them like slippers in the house instead of soaking them on my feet as it was UK and winter.

SuckingDieselFella · 09/06/2020 17:24

Thanks, if it's a breaking in thing I'll keep going.

Do you really soak them or was that a typo?
