When did Boden switch their production to China?

I've just had a delivery and I'm irritated as I was trying to cut down on buying goods from China - not because I'm anti the Chinese people but because I want to buy more local/ethical as much as possible

But I was seduced by a couple of items because I got 30% off and just didn't think it was produced in China

Any idea how long they've been making in China? Is it all their goods now?

I am not anti chinese people either, but the more i read the more i am anti the regime there and their international approach. I too am trying to cut down on buying goods from China.....but for slightly different reasons

I don't know the answer but am interested too! All the Boden clothes I have are made in China but my DD's Mini Boden clothes are all made in India!

They do have a few items made in Britain, mostly tweed from Abraham Moon in Yorkshire I think

This is so annoying! I was planning to get some stuff from there on the 30% off next week! I'm trying not to buy goods made in China at all. The whole regime is wrong on so many levels and we should be reducing our dependence on them for manufactured goods.

just had a quick look and couldnt see where the first three things were made. So Boden, if you are listening and dont want people returning loads of stuff, can we have country of origin included in the product details please

We have had quite abit from Boden over the years and its been made in China for a while now (about 2 years). Its made in different places like Turkey and Sri Lanka etc

I don't know, but I have to to say I bought my first ever dress from there a few weeks ago and was shocked at the poor quality of fabric. I have better quality fabric dresses from supermarket brands.

They shifted it a while ago and the quality dropped so that's why I buy less Biden stuff now.

@SpeedofaSloth Barbour is all British made in South Shields. It's not all wax jackets any more. They have a lovely Barbour international range and are more on trend with their main line as well. DH and I have few things between us. Outdoor and Leisure is best place to buy it discounted.

Seasalt are British made (I think!)

oh thats a shame. I dont think the prices reflect that its all made in china. I thought they were more ethical than that.

I need budget clothing made in the UK I'm not going to get it so I end up with charity shop clothing its mor ethical

The prices don’t reflect it at all. I haven’t bought in a while because the quality went down but I hadn’t spotted it was made in China.

In light of the current circumstances I'm also trying not to buy things made in China so I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought (maybe naively) that Boden was made in Britain.
I'd never bought from there before but when I saw the label I was very disappointed

Seasalt also manufacture overseas including China. Website advised they support UK manufactured products where possible and sell pottery, skincare and home fragrance.

I think most companies do this due to cost.

Barbour manufactures some wax jackets in the UK but other items are made abroad. Seasalt manufactures and imports its products from abroad (largely India, Sri Lanka, China, Pakistan, Vietnam).

Brands who actively seek out and profit from foreign labour and resources should be transparent about it and not hide behind some opaque British 'identity' (eg 'designed in Britain'). It's exploitative.

sugar I believe their chocolate is also made in the UK but the bulk of their clothing is made abroad. (I suspect all their clothes are made abroad but they're not very transparent about it.) Basically anything that doesn't explicity say 'manufactured in the UK' is made abroad.

Wow, im surprised. I thought they were employing people in the uk. The prices arent cheap.

I would much prefer to buy clothes made in UK.

I used to be a bank manager in East London, when the "rag trade" was a thing in Walthamstow and surrounding areas (and bank managers were a thing). It was great, I was often given things to wear. They pretty much closed when they had to start providing decent working conditions and employing people with the right to work in UK, so we were no better there.
