Anyone else just not wear jewellery?

Just curious. I used to wear lots daily as a teen/at uni, and spent a fair amount on expensive stuff over the years. It's gradually whittled down over the years to just a small watch (need to know the time without phone at work) and thin plain wedding ring. I find it more comfortable and have just stopped bothering.

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same? It feels like I'm an anomaly in real life. My mother is a big jewellery wearer and claims I look bare without it. Thanks Mum Grin

Just my navel piercing- and now being in my 40s and with a corona jelly belly I'm not wearing any crop tops to show it off!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/05/2020 15:43

Yes, I wear absolutely tonnes of it; all silver. Loads of ear piercings and loads of bracelets and rings, a watch and often a pendant as well. However, since lockdown I've hardly bothered and I've had to keep repiercing one of my ear holes. I will go back to rattling when the world returns to normal!

thenightsky · 23/05/2020 16:06

A pair of gold ear studs which I swap for slightly bigger fancier ones when I go out.

I didn't even manage to wear my wedding ring for a full 24 hours after the wedding. I knew I'd never wear it, so we only spent £18 on it. I just hate the feeling of rings.

LostSapphire · 23/05/2020 16:28

Yes to hating the feeling of rings. Anything other than a plain thin loose smooth band makes me feel claustrophobic and scratchy. And I'm even wondering what the point of my wedding ring is - DH isn't bothered if I wear it or not, does it matter if random strangers know whether or not I'm married (and no, nobody hits on me anyway Grin )

Does a watch not count as jewellery? I wear even less then. I would gladly do without it but I need to know the time!

The "how to look groomed" threads have been mentioned - I think that's how my mother feels - jewellery makes you look "finished" and put together.

Bobbin as a regular heavy jewellery wearer, can I ask why you do it? (That's meant in a genuinely curious way in case it doesn't come across!) Are the pieces sentimental, or do you like the way they make you look, or something else?

I wear 6 rings on differnt fingers and thumbs and thats all the jewelery I wear. They are really plain, silver bands

Plain rings are fine for me - I don't feel them and don't have to bother taking them off an on.

Anything else is such a faff - off, on, off on,......my rings I just forget about.

keepingbees · 23/05/2020 16:48

I wear my wedding, engagement and eternity ring they never come off and I love looking at them. They're comfortable and don't know I'm wearing them. Most of my other fingers feel really odd with a ring on.
I wear stud earrings everyday that go with anything. Occasionally wear a small necklace but they do annoy me.
Dangly bracelets and watches irritate me.

I like pandora and simple classic jewellery. Too much and things like dangly earrings make me look overdressed IMO. My mums jewellery style is very erm 'heavy' and she thinks I'm weird for only liking delicate stuff which in her opinion you can hardly see.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 23/05/2020 17:01

I just wear a plain wedding band and that’s it. I usually take it off at home too.
I used to be really into jewellery and wore loads. I’ve got body piercings that I’ve left close up. I also had my nose pierced, and 11 holes in my ears (5 sets and one top) and rarely put earrings in now.
I think my problem is laziness. I like the look of lots of jewellery on me but I’m too lazy to take them all off every night but find sleeping with earrings, bracelets and necklaces uncomfortable.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/05/2020 17:01

@LostSapphire some of it's sentiment but a lot of it is that my style is alternative (I'm mostly a goth, basically) so it just...goes.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/05/2020 17:02

Oh I don't sleep in any of it, except my wedding rings. That would be very uncomfortable.

shushymcshush · 23/05/2020 17:09

Engagement ring, wedding ring and a pair of gold stud type earrings (read somewhere it gives a good polished look for work - probably on here actually). Other than that I don't bother - too much hassle.

AliasGrape · 23/05/2020 17:19

I don’t really these days.

I have tons of the stuff (costume mainly, apart from a few pieces that were my mums) but hardly wear any anymore. I’m terrible for taking things off unconsciously and plonking them somewhere then forgetting. On a night out I’d end up taking the earrings/bracelet off halfway through and shove them in my handbag. Things on my wrist particularly irritate me and I can’t wear a watch, always seem to get a rash, though I’ve got a cheapy pretend Fitbit thing that was ok and I was wearing everyday before lockdown.

I love my wedding and engagement rings and think they’re so pretty, enjoy catching sight of them when I am wearing them, but I haven’t actually worn them in weeks now (only got married 5 months ago) and before then it was sporadic - I’d take them off to sleep and no guarantee I’d remember to put them back on in the morning. Before getting married/engaged I wore a sapphire ring of my mums on that finger - that was so smooth and I never took it off, have tried transferring it to my other hand but it just feels weird so that rarely gets worn now either.

I do wear a very fine chain with a tiny diamond pendant on it. DH bought it for me (I chose it) and I wore it for our wedding. It’s barely noticeable really - can’t feel I’m wearing anything and you’d probably not see it unless you looked closely) but I love it and am sentimental about it. It stays on all the time I forget it’s there.

puppypuppypuppypuppy · 23/05/2020 17:24

I wear my wedding ring and engagement ring, sometimes a watch.
On a special occasion I might wear a tennis bracelet, earrings and necklace but only very occasionally.

AgeLikeWine · 23/05/2020 17:28

I only wear a watch. It’s a fairly old, plain stainless steel Rolex. It’s as non-bling as they come, so nobody ever notices it.

hopeishere · 23/05/2020 17:29

Me! Watch, wedding and engagement ring and my mums engagement ring on my right hand.

If I'm going out I'll wear earrings.

I buy inexpensive jewellery but it feels weird on me.

aceyace · 23/05/2020 17:54

I don't wear any as soon as Input any on I have to take it off again, I can't stand anything around my neck and earrings make my ears burn and have short fingers don't suit rings, however used to wear a nose stud and had a tongue piercing which didn't stay in very long, I can't tolerate make up either

lotusbell · 24/05/2020 15:17

I'm the same. I wear a small pair of hoops in my ears all the time, a watch and my engagement ring although I haven't worn either of these really since being at home all day. I have a variety of brackets, bangles and necklaces but I gradually stopped wearing them due to the faff of taking them off every night as I can't clean in them.i have some beautiful stuff gifted to me over the years but I rarely wear it. I don't go out that often either, I'm not that sociable so on the odd occasion I do, it feels nice. I work in a warehouse and have to wash my hands quite a bit so it feels almost counter productive to wear much.

dudsville · 24/05/2020 15:19

I loved jewelry when i was young and had a lot of nice things from family as well as fashion jewelry. I haven't worn anything now for 15/20 years.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 24/05/2020 15:22

No, and I never have. I don't want or wear a wedding or engagement ring, and I own no jewellery, it just doesn't interest me at all.

I love clothes, shoes and other accessories though!

BlusteryLake · 24/05/2020 15:22

I love jewellery. I use it to update an outfit or to enable me to wear the same outfit day to evening without having to get changed. I do, however, subscribe to the Coco Chanel philosophy of "put your jewellery on, then take half of it off"!

emmetgirl · 24/05/2020 15:24

Very rarely. Earrings sometimes, occasionally a watch but that's it!

QuidcoQueen · 24/05/2020 15:29

A pair of silver studs and my fitbit watch.

I dont even wear my wedding rings now, all the extra hand washing has caused a massive eczema flair up.

beesbeesbee · 24/05/2020 15:33

I don't, I don't even own any and wouldn't know where to start.

Terralee · 24/05/2020 15:54

I love jewellery & my sister thinks I wear too much! Usually wear a watch, 1 or 2 bracelets, a necklace (chain & pendant), 2 pairs of earrings, sometimes an ankle chain too.

At work (hospital) I wear 2 small pairs of stud earrings & a thin necklace if I can get away with it, and a fob watch.

I don't generally wear rings though as I'm not married or engaged plus I find them annoying when I'm trying to wash my hands.

fiveforty · 24/05/2020 15:55

Engagement, wedding and a ring after my son was born. One plain silver bangle and sometimes a watch. I couldn't bear anything else and to be honest I could do without wearing my rings!
