Anyone else just not wear jewellery?

Just curious. I used to wear lots daily as a teen/at uni, and spent a fair amount on expensive stuff over the years. It's gradually whittled down over the years to just a small watch (need to know the time without phone at work) and thin plain wedding ring. I find it more comfortable and have just stopped bothering.

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same? It feels like I'm an anomaly in real life. My mother is a big jewellery wearer and claims I look bare without it. Thanks Mum Grin

Only one set of earrings here! I've two ears pierced twice but rarely wear more than one set, I lost my wedding ring many years ago and haven't worn my engagement ring since it got caught on a door handle and cut my finger. I occasionally wear a watch and keep looking at a Fitbit or Apple Watch but think they look too bulky for me.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 23/05/2020 11:55

I don't wear any jewellery, not even a ring or watch. I used to wear earrings but gradually found my skin becoming more and more irritated and itchy, even with gold and silver. I have a few bits and pieces of junk jewellery, but forget to wear it!

SingleHandSue · 23/05/2020 11:58

I wear my wedding band, eternity ring and my late DM’s eternity ring and have a tiny nose stud but that’s all.

I like the look of bracelets and lovely necklaces on others but think I look like a pig in lipstick if I wear jewellery.

Ragwort · 23/05/2020 11:59

Very little, always have a simple gold cross necklace, a ring on my wedding finger (not my wedding ring, no longer fits Blush), sometimes some cheapish beads. I never, ever visit jewellery shops.

Peacenquiet2 · 23/05/2020 11:59

Me, just my fitbit

Toomboom · 23/05/2020 12:00

No jewellery at all, including rings or ear rings.

mizu · 23/05/2020 12:10

singlehandsue pig in lipstick GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin yes that's how I feel in jewellery. Goodness knows why!

I must have worn it at some point as have 4 holes in one ear and 3 in the other and a small hole in my nose from a piercing 25 years ago.

Picklypickles · 23/05/2020 12:20

I used to wear rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings but the older I get the more allergic I seem to be becoming to metal. I used to be ok with gold and silver but even that quickly brings me out in an itchy and bumpy rash now, shame as I've got some really pretty pendants but they'd look shit hanging off a bit of string or leather.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/05/2020 12:21

I wear lots

I also think I look like a pig in lipstick wearing it all Grin

Or at the least a bit "cruise ship"

Same I don't wear jewelry anymore but now I'm in my 40s doing well at work and have a little bit of spare cash, I've decided to invest in a few forever pieces. I have ordered the classic Alabama bracelet, Cartier watch., Cartier Love diamond bracelet .if I'm going to wear anything, it needs to be timeless and something I can hand down to my daughter. I'm done with fashion jewelry!

LostSapphire · 23/05/2020 13:01

Ooh interesting responses, thanks everyone!

No. I don't think it makes me look better so don't bother.

Yes this is the crux of it for me. Somewhere along the line I just realised that while the jewellery itself might look nice, it doesn't make me look any better. As I'm not someone who wears it for myself, I think, why bother.

I look like a pig in lipstick if I wear jewellery.

There is something about this too... I look a bit drag queen with earrings/necklaces, even small ones, these days. No idea why. I don't think that about other people wearing them.

Cookiedoughkid your jewellery choices sound amazing. The thing is I do love looking at jewellery and am still very interested in it. I just don't like wearing it!

Every day its literally my engagement ring and wedding band, but I never take them off.

I've got a pandora bracelet with charms that represent significant things i.e buying my house, having my daughter and son etc.
I used to wear that and a watch daily, but gradually stopped putting them on as when at work I sit at a desk and they get irritation while I'm trying to type.

timetest · 23/05/2020 13:16

I usually wear my wedding, eternity, engagement rings, watch and occasionally a tennis bracelet. My hair hides my ears so I don’t bother with earrings. Very occasionally I might wear a necklace.

CrosswalkHellMayorInsane · 23/05/2020 13:17

None here - never been married or engaged so not even wedding ring.

I've occasionally tried in the past with a ring or pendant, but it always falls by the wayside after a week or two.

I guess I'm just not a jewellery person.

JellyfishandShells · 23/05/2020 13:32

We were burgled and though I miss a couple of pieces with real sentimental value, the rest were random a collection of things I no longer wore. I chose to replace with a really nice watch that I wear daily ( though not over lockdown) a couple of pairs of earrings that I truly like and a string of pearls that are a better colour than the ones that got taken.

I wear just my plain wedding band all of the time, the watch when I go out and about and the earrings when I am getting dressed up. The pearls are for very dressed up !

My style is quite minimalist and I tend to fiddle with things so never been huge jewellery wearer.

mondaynoon · 23/05/2020 13:35

I used to wear a lot of jewellery but now wear nothing. I don't know why I stopped. I also used to always wear make up but now don't wear that either.

han01uk · 23/05/2020 13:38

I never wear any.

Even my wedding band and engagement ring. I work as a nurse so can't be bothered keep taking them on and off but as a result even when I'm on leave I just don't bother anymore, ever.

GinWithRosie · 23/05/2020 13:42

Me...only thing I wear is my watch (and I'd rather not wear that to be honest but my daily work life means I'm really stuck without it🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️)

I used to have a wedding ring and even that annoyed me 😂

Ponks · 23/05/2020 14:03

Only wear a watch and never thought of it as jewellery, it's just functional.
Didn't have an engagement or wedding ring when I got married, I'm just not interested.

Rua13 · 23/05/2020 14:19

I wear a pair of diamond earrings that I never take off. That's it.

TeaAddict235 · 23/05/2020 15:00

I have my engagement ring, wedding ring and eternity ring (blinging it out!), but apart from that nothing. Most jewellery brings me out in a rash due to the Nickel content. And yes, we have bought very expensive jewellery in the range of £300+ from jewellers, which still brings me out in rash. Therefore no earrings, necklaces or metal belts/Buckels for me. My DM once joked that I would be a cheap wife! Blush

I always observe on those "how to look groomed" threads that the use of jewellery is advised. I must look like a real poor country mouse.

TeaAddict235 · 23/05/2020 15:00

Don't even wear a watch because of the back metal side. Confused

BillywigSting · 23/05/2020 15:05

Me I don't wear any jewellery. Used to as a teen /student but can't for work (healthcare) and just sort of stopped bothering, especially once I had ds and any and all jewellery was fair game for going in a toddler mouth.

I do wear it occasionally for things like going out but seriously can't be bothered with it day to day. I have a fob watch for work that is quite decorative looking (rose gold with little crystals for the numbers) but I don't think that really counts.

EngagedAgain · 23/05/2020 15:27

I only wear my nans ring. That's it. I was planning on getting a nice gold necklace before lockdown, and not too long as it would be for general day wear. I don't want something that rarely gets worn.

Northernsoullover · 23/05/2020 15:30

I hate it. I do have a thin chain which I never remove but thats ok because I can't feel it.
