Is there a product that will genuinely stimulate eyelash growth?

My eyelashes used to be my pride and joy but they're not as thick and long as they used to be. They're also very pale. I have just turned 50 so maybe it's another of those lovely ageing signs I need to accept. I cannot be arsed with extensions but I do wear mascara (when not in lockdown).

Anyway my question, has anyone used any products that have worked to bring some life back to eyelashes?

Eyebrowns also diminishing by the way.

Lilash definitely works, you can get it for brows too.
It's around £80-£90 depending if you have a discount code. Definitely worth it.

Castor oil. Very small amount massaged into eyelashes and brows every evening.

Costs very little so worth a try before spending nearly £100

AnotheChinHair · 15/05/2020 06:45

Oh blimey pear! I have looked it up and it seems a bit of a controversial product? In any case there's no way I can afford to spend that kind of money every 3 months. Do you use it?

I've tried the Boots active lash and it really does work

CockCarousel · 15/05/2020 06:57

Have you tried dying them? It won't do anything for the volume obvs, but you'll be surprised at the difference. They get lighter in colour as we age, but they're still there.

Prostaglandin is the substance that makes eyelashes grow, originally manufactured for glaucoma. It can change the colour of the iris though Shock

I like the idea of castor oil as it is natural. Have you used it yourself feather? I have sensitive eyes so I wonder how they'll react to this, but I guess I could always start with my eyebrows and see how that goes?

Cock thanks, no, I haven't tried dying them because I can't be arsed with treatments. I can't bear going to the hairdressers and put it off as much as I can. I have never ever had a manicure or pedicure... you get the idea...

Patsypie thank you, for that price it might be worth a go. How soon did you notice an improvement?

Revitalash Advanced. I never believed other people when then said it worked - but it is working.

Have been using since early March. My eyelashes were spindley thin and so, so short. Two and a bit months later they are still extremely thin. But more and more individual lashes are visibly longer than I've ever known them.

Cons: Until about three weeks ago the liquid made my eyelids itchy. I think it's also darkened the skin a bit. Lashes are not all growing at the same rate so might look untidy if anyone cared to scrutinise. But no one is.

I'll wait to replace my pre-lockdown mascara* until Things Calm Down - but quite excited to see how they'll look with a little thickness added.

I took advantage of a Cult Beauty discount, but it is still shockingly expensive. I don't care. I need it. Grin

*Tom Ford Ultralength. Really superb even on tiny little lashes.

Caster oil!
100%

Revitalash also works but ££ so just go with caster oil.
Put some on a disposable mascara wand and brush through lashes and brows every evening concentrating on the roots.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 15/05/2020 07:08

I tried castor oil. Did nothing for me. Sad

pilates · 15/05/2020 07:09

Active lash works

AnotheChinHair · 15/05/2020 07:11

Thank you everyone. I think I'll start with castor oil see how I get on. Dumb question, if I buy disposable wands, is the idea that I throw it away after one use?

Bimatoprost works. Goes under the name Lumigan or Latisse.

Could make your eyes darker though. Castor oil sounds like juju to me.

pumpkinpie01 · 15/05/2020 08:05

My dd has been using castor oil on her eyelashes for a couple of weeks now not sure about them being thicker but she definitely has more new ones growing than usual.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 15/05/2020 08:08

I recently had to remove eyelash extensions myself since i had an allergic reaction. I pulled out pretty much all of my natural lashes in the process and my eyelids looked like a plucked chicken.

I used shiseido full lash serum and it works quickly - google the reviews online. My lashes are huge now, fluffy, thick, and long. Took about 2-3 weeks but dayum its bloody good!

GlassOfProsecco · 15/05/2020 08:30

I had a thread about this a couple of months ago; I've been using rapidlash & changed to a mascara which contains Castor oil (L'Oréal Paradise extatic) - I am now noticing a difference.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 15/05/2020 08:42

2-3 weeks, Alexis???

ShockEnvy

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 15/05/2020 08:44

Yes! lashes take about a month to fully grow as they have a much shorter growth cycle than hair so i started seeing real results after 2-3 weeks (bear in mind half of my lashes were literally gone)

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 15/05/2020 08:46

Right. Have googled. That looks like the perfect companion product.

Thanks!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 15/05/2020 08:47

Its honestly very, very good! Do report back how you get on

Swiftier · 15/05/2020 08:47

Bimatoprost works wonders, it’s available on prescription only though. You can get it online.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 15/05/2020 08:47

(Although I assume your missing lashes would have grown back anyway ...?)

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 15/05/2020 08:52

Yes, they would have grown back anyway so I wasnt worried about having bald eyelids or anything but this has made them much, much thicker than they were prior to lash extensions.

Please be careful with bimatoprost- it can have serious side effects. It can darken people's eyes if they are light/blue and studies have shown it can cause fat loss (atrophy) in the peri orbital area

Patsypie · 16/05/2020 16:53

I noticed a difference after a week and a big difference after a month. I recently tinted them so they look amazing.
