My Botox is running out!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 10:25

Anyone else rather alarmed that their face is starting to move again? Its been 4 months now and I'm wondering when cosmetic procedures will be allowed again? anyone else wondering this?

Caveat: Yes, I KNOW people are dying. I am a key worker so am fully aware. This is a lighthearted musing, not a serious post about how botox is more important than people's lives before anyone attacks me.

OP posts:

I had Botox a couple of times a few years ago. I am 99.99999999% sure it caused an autoimmune disease. I looked great for a few months but I’ll be ill forever.

userxx · 16/05/2020 21:23

@peaceanddove It's filler your after, not Botox.

BloomedAgain · 16/05/2020 22:03

@FarquarKumquatsmama a younger relative has been having it for medical reasons, but is now being assessed for a suspected autoimmune problem although they don't know exactly what (investigations delayed now). Do you mind saying what problem you have developed or can botox immune complications manifest in different ways?

FarquarKumquatsmama · 17/05/2020 08:54

@BloomedAgain

I developed 2 autoimmune diseases not long after I started on the Botox. One is called Lichen sclerosis and the other is called hashimotos. They are both life-changing 😔

Of course i stopped having Botox immediately but the autoimmune diseases are irreversible.

I will never be able to prove the link between the two but I have read a few books about my particular illnesses and done a load of research and there is a strong train of thought that autoimmune diseases are triggered by your body responding to poisons eg pollution, chemicals in food, vaccines etc.

Of course, we cannot avoid all
of these things (and I would not suggest anti vaccine as a sensible way to proceed) but buying organic and limiting the bodies exposure to poisons seems sensible. And Botox is by definition a poison so why take the risk?

God I regret being so vain 😢 I wish I had worked on a way to increase my self esteem and accept myself for who I am instead.

Farquar Naively I had no idea about Botox triggering this sort of thing - it has 100% put me off the idea. Thanks for sharing your experiences and I’m sorry this happened to you Flowers

Lupellegrino · 17/05/2020 09:24

The yoga face method has extraordinary results but does require dedication.

BloomedAgain · 17/05/2020 13:25

So sorry @FarquarKumquatsmama Flowers
Will be interesting to see what happens in the future as its medical and cosmetic use is so widespread.

Riverviews · 17/05/2020 16:08

I have Hashimotos. I was diagnosed well before I started having Botox. I have never noticed any flairs after I have Botox so it clearly doesn't affect me. It is anecdotal, obviously, maybe I'm just lucky.

Autoinmune conditions are common and it can take years to be diagnosed. It would be difficult to know what came first whether the condition or the Botox

FarquarKumquatsmama · 17/05/2020 17:27

@Riverviews - certainly true.

According to what I’ve read, autoimmune diseases esp. hashimotos can be triggered by having a baby; a major illness; a stressful life event; living in a house with mould and some other things that I’ve forgotten.

I experienced quite a lot of these shortly before my hashimotos was diagnosed. I also switched doctors to a really mega thorough one who tested everything.

So maybe something else triggered it, maybe I’d had it for ages it, maybe the Botox caused it.

Funny thing is though, a quick google will show you that I am certainly not alone in linking the two...

FarquarKumquatsmama · 17/05/2020 17:28

Sorry - didn’t mean to hijack the thread. I’ll shut up now. Hope you guys get to the studio soon and I haven’t made you worried. Just worth keeping an open mind 😊

maddy68 · 17/05/2020 17:33

Yes. My face is crumbling 😂

Looks like Botox does mess with your TSH levels!
I have hashimotos but got it after having a child. I had Botox once, about 10 years previously.

@empireants

Botox is amazing but mine wore off just before lockdown so I've been using Facial Smoothies wrinkle patches and am really impressed with them. I've used Frownies in the past but these are much better as they're smaller, clear and self-adhesive. They're also a lot cheaper and can be re-used. They stop me frowning in my sleep and make me more self-aware of my facial expressions throughout the day. I've noticed that my frown line is drastically reduced overall. I'm not saying they're as good as Botox but, for the money, they're great and a good solution to tide us over until we can have Botox again! Though I think I might continue using these.
hi there, where do you order them?
ferneytorro · 02/03/2021 18:53

The place where I go occasionally (Discover Laser in Burnley) says on their FB page 12th April. It's doctors though so could that be different than beauty salons?

Twatterati · 03/03/2021 12:30

So relieved someone brought this topic up! I couldn't decide how to word it, so well done OP, I just sounded vain and shallow (and I'm not really!)

Equally (lightheartedly) worried about mine as it's started to wear off. Amazed to see other people's headaches improved too, as mine also have and I'd not linked the two things. Although it was the other day when I had an awful headache that I first noticed a wrinkly reflection looked like my granny was in the mirror, waaaah😭

I've been wondering if other people are having secret meet-ups to get a quick top-up! Tempted to message my practitioner and beg see if she fancies a 'walk'!

I'm sure we notice it far more than anyone else though! I hope so anyway 😂

Diadora30 · 03/03/2021 12:40

Haven’t taken the plunge with Botox yet, but looking forward to getting my tear trough fillers touched up!

Spaceprincess · 03/03/2021 23:54

KITA Aesthetics in Burnley is open.....

BehindMyEyes · 04/03/2021 00:25

You can get Botox if you feel that your looks are "detrimental to your mental health " as opposed to just wanting to look better or younger.

Notanotherhun · 04/03/2021 07:15

Talk to me about crow's feet - how do jabs work for those? I have to be a bridesmaid next year and I'll be nearly 36. I don't look to bad but when I smile the skin around my eyes basically concertinas.

mummykauli7 · 04/03/2021 07:30

If any of you are near Sidcup, Aspire Pharmacy does Botox. They also still have a 30% off offer running.

They inject in the area and you don't get the creases or you get less depending on how conservative your doctor is . Go to a doctor. I use a dermatologist - it doesn't cost any more and they really know all about the underlying facial muscles.
PeacheyPeach · 04/03/2021 09:52

@Viviennemary

I have thought about botox but haven't taken the plunge. Too scared it will go wrong I suppose. Probably left it too late now anyway.
its never too late, i first got botox at 44 and delighted with it.
