My Botox is running out!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 10:25

Anyone else rather alarmed that their face is starting to move again? Its been 4 months now and I'm wondering when cosmetic procedures will be allowed again? anyone else wondering this?

Caveat: Yes, I KNOW people are dying. I am a key worker so am fully aware. This is a lighthearted musing, not a serious post about how botox is more important than people's lives before anyone attacks me.

My Botox has wore off too Sad

Lucky I’m still kinda young at 30 and I have it more as a prevention measure but my forehead now moves and I hate it Angry

I’m now using lots of potions to help til she’s back open.

Just bought some of the ordinary products and body shop ‘drops of youth’ til lockdown ends Grin see how it goes

@potter5 That was worthy of posting 🙄

1066vegan · 15/05/2020 06:48

I'm sure most of you know that botox is short for botulinum toxin so you are being injected with a toxin. Infection with the bacterium which produces that toxin causes botulism.

I can understand that if having deep wrinkles really affects your self confidence, then you would want to get rid of them but aren't you worried by the whole concept of putting poison into your face?

ZooeyS · 15/05/2020 06:50

@potter5 style & beauty might not be for you

ZooeyS · 15/05/2020 06:54

Also, does any have recommendations for a good clinic in the Bath/Bristol area for once things are up and running again?

userxx · 15/05/2020 07:27

@1066vegan We are breathing in poison everyday with pollution 🤷‍♂️. Please don't preach to us, we are grown woman who are old enough to make our own choices. Do you realise that Botox can be a lifeline for migraine sufferers?

cariadlet · 15/05/2020 08:00

@userxx I'm not preaching; if I was I would be telling you not to do it. It's a genuine question. Putting poison into my face would worry me and I'm curious as to why it doesn't worry other people.

Of course we breathe in poison every day with pollution. We can try to limit the pollution that we produce but can't do much about the pollution that others produce. Inhaling pollution isn't an active choice; injecting a toxin into our faces is an active choice.

The argument that we're already breathing in one kind of poison so there's no point in limiting how many other poisons we ingest does seem rather fatuous.

cariadlet · 15/05/2020 08:01

btw that wasn't a name change fail: I seem to have one user name on the app on my phone and a different username when I'm on the website.

Barkingfuckingdogs · 15/05/2020 08:09

Botox has been used medically for years. I've been having it for about 15 years now without any adverse effects. I'm not even a tiny bit concerned but then I am a vain woman clinging on to the last morsels of youth.....

Veterinari · 15/05/2020 08:16

@cariadlet

Almost everything is 'poison' in high enough doses. Do you question people for taking paracetamol when they have a headache? That is 'poison' too. Penicillin is a'poison' excreted by mould but it's also a rather useful medicine.

Botulinum toxin is simply another example of a natural product manufactured for the medical market - like penicillin, aspirin etc. The doses used in Botox are well researched and safe. So why would anyone worry about it any more than any other medicine?

Using words like 'poison' simply show that you've done no reading or research on the safety or efficacy of Botox and yet still believe that your uninformed opinion should dictate how other people behave.

cariadlet · 15/05/2020 08:24

@Veterinari The points you made in your first 2 paragraphs are really valid and definitely worth thinking about.

But you've undermined your argument in the final paragraph by saying that I believe that my uninformed opinion should dictate how other people behave. I've no problem with you thinking that my opinion is unformed. But if you reread my posts, you'll see that asserting that I'm trying to dictate the behaviour of others is an unfounded inference. I've asked about people's thinking but haven't suggested that anybody should stop using botox let alone tell them that they shouldn't use it.

Veterinari · 15/05/2020 08:32

Right so when you said
aren't you worried by the whole concept of putting poison into your face?
And
The argument that we're already breathing in one kind of poison so there's no point in limiting how many other poisons we ingest does seem rather fatuous.
You were being genuinely helpful and constructive were you?

If you think that telling a group of people who clearly use Botox that their reasoning is 'fatuous' and they're putting 'poison in their face' is your way of politely and genuinely learning, @cariadlet you may want to reconsider your social jnteractions.

Viviennemary · 15/05/2020 08:35

I have thought about botox but haven't taken the plunge. Too scared it will go wrong I suppose. Probably left it too late now anyway.

userxx · 15/05/2020 08:43

@Viviennemary How old are you?

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 15/05/2020 09:13

I nearly lost my mind and health to botox (I had it once) and so have thousands of others.

There are thousands of similar stories on Real Self and theres a Facebook group called Botox/Dysport side effects support. Linked below. Most doctors deny the existence of side effects (ask to see the patient information leaflet that comes with the Botox if in doubt) due to the money involved in these procedures. PLEASE research as much as you can before injecting this neurotoxin into your body. Especially if you are sensitive to meds. Some of the stories are terrible, with people being left seriously chronically ill for years. Yes, thousands have Botox daily with no ill effects but for some it can be disastrous. Other stories from those who were ill for years with central nervous system damage but never made the link. Mine affected me within minutes of injection but luckily only lasted until it wore off. Needless to say I now just live with the wrinkles. Just a few links below.

Most doctors deny the existence of side effects

I doubt that very much. Every medical product/procedure has risks and side effects - it's exactly why data sheets are produced. The data sheets for any medication is potentially terrifying.

Viviennemary · 15/05/2020 09:34

I'm quite old but not ancient. I'm a lot younger than Joan Collins and she looks great. I've not got wrinkles as such but nose to mouth lines are the worst.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/05/2020 09:44

I will just leave this here lol

My Botox is running out!
bibbidybobbidyboo · 15/05/2020 10:06

Can't help re: Botox I'm afraid but I have got a couple of Zoom tips - under "Settings - Video" there's a function to "touch up my appearance". When you're in a call you can also right click your own face to "hide self view".

I use both liberally.

I’m mid 30’s. I’ve had deep forehead wrinkles since I was very young - 14/15ish. It’s just the way my face moves and it doesn’t bother me too much. My eyes on the other hand. I’ve always had puffy top eyelids and they are starting to sag more and more. I think in a few years (40’s) I might get Botox to lift my brows and help lift my eyelids back up. I’m curious to read how long it lasts on people - twice a year sounds fine to me but anymore than that I’m not sure if I would be bothered with the upkeep.

peaceanddove · 15/05/2020 14:42

I had Botox about a year ago when I started to notice fine lines appearing on my forehead. I still don't have any wrinkles unless actually frowning or smiling even though I'm nearly fifty.

The problem with my Botox was that I have a very strong 11s muscle on my left side, so in order to paralyse it properly it made the inner corner of my left eye droop slightly. So I am reluctant to try it again because there's no point in having a smooth forehead but droopy eyes.

Also I'm starting to get those marionette lines (more like folds) from the corners of my mouth down to my chin and the skin there is sagging. Can Botox help those?

Mnthrowaway20202 · 15/05/2020 16:37

Weird. The doctor who administers my filler also offers Botox. He classes his company as a medical business, not a beauty salon, so isn’t following government guidance for salon reopening, he’s just opening next month. However he also works on his hospital’s covid ward, so there’s a risk of patients transmitting the virus from him so probably not the best idea to immediately book in for treatments.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 15/05/2020 17:58

@cariadlet By your logic, no one should take any medicine because we should limit how much “poison” we ingest. In reality you must always balance the benefits with the risks. Everything is poisonous at high dosages; nothing is harmless.

Poison has connotations of leaving someone on their deathbed. Of course no one would risk death to erase wrinkles, but surely you’re aware that the dosage for cosmetic usage is not lethal?

I have Botox administered in my masseter muscles under the NHS - aside from pain relief, it had no side effects and wore off within 6 months. I had 30 units whereas the lethal dosage for humans is estimated to be 3,000 units - 100x more. These doses are far higher than those recommended for cosmetic use, so when used properly within recommended doses, Botox is safe.

BluebellForest836 · 15/05/2020 18:15

@ZooeyS - I am actually in the bath/Bristol area. I live between the 2.

Pm me and il get the details of the women who does mine. Iv been going to her for 4 years and she’s a qualified nurse, not a beauty salon
