Muttoning around dressed as lamb

As the title says, I’m definitely a mutton dresses as lamb.
Not because I want to look young but because in my mind I always feel young- no more than 18 yrs old- definitely not 46 years I am!
Is anyone here like that?
Wearing youngsters clothing?
Imagine skinnies, brigh tops, colourful bags, coinverse.
I must add I got about 12 denim jackets- none are plain- mostly are embroidered with florals or sequins or diamantess, some have stars print, some have writing on.
I must add that I am conscious of my age,
I’m not a bohemian hipster.
Anytime I buy something new I ask will I look foolish?
Yesterday I bough a rare Topshop jacket covered in diamanté’s- that would be definitely looked great on teens..somehow I could not resist.
Shinny stuff attracts me..
Is anyone like me?
None of my friends are like that so I almost feel guilty when I see them as they usually wear normal plain clothes..

I feel like this too, I will be 60 in August, and never had to much confidence, but I love clothes, I have things in my wardrobe with labels on that I don't have the confidence to wear, when I watch trinny wearing her sparkly jackets in daytime, I want to do that too, I have 2 sparkly jackets sitting in my wardrobe with labels on, never worn, the thing is, the older I get the more I think like this, I am slim size 10 to 12 and keep up to date and follow fashion, picking thing for my age, but in my head I feel 30 to 40. But don't want to look frumpy.

Mintjulia · 08/05/2020 17:58

If you are happy, who cares what anyone else thinks?

I've spent today mowing the lawn, sunbathing, pootling around the garden in shorts and a crop top. - and I'm ten years older than you.

pictish · 08/05/2020 17:59

Have to say that embellished denim (jeans or jacket), diamanté and pointless writing on things are all right up there on my forever NOPE list, but that has always been true of me...it’s not an age thing.

You do you for sure. Sparkle away!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/05/2020 18:01

If I want it on show, then ... it goes on show.

I have way too few fucks to give regarding how the rest of the world feels about it. If you don't like it, there are around 8 billion other people you can look at.

Ghostlyglow · 08/05/2020 19:34

Me 🙋‍♀️. I'm 54 and always forget when I'm clothes shopping. Honestly, some of the women in their 30s where I work, wear (to me) old people's clothes! Life is short. Wear what you want. I like metal and rock music and that is how I dress and I'm not going to change Grin

Octopus37 · 09/05/2020 09:11

Rather, I love the sequin jacket, you could be me. I am 45 and when it comes to style in my head I am in my early 20s. I dye my hair bright colours, love sequins and embellishments. Love all trendy, funky styles. Patterned leggings and coloured tights are a particular favourite.

PinkDaisey · 09/05/2020 09:38

I’m the same as u OP Glitterball

user1494055864 · 09/05/2020 09:46

I'm the same. I'm 46 and my 15 year old is often impressed by my clothing purchases. She loved a pair of my trainers, I ended up giving them to her, as we are the same size, (although I bought myself another fashionable replacement pair!). I have a pink fur bomber jacket from Topshop. I love the diamante denim jacket OP!

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 09/05/2020 10:38

So I put the sparkling denim jacket on! Oh so much glitter!
Still not sure if suitable for casual wear..but I love everything that sparks and glitters..

I'm 43, it hadn't occurred to me that might be old...
I completely agree with wear what you want, what makes you happy, don't dress for others, life's too short etc etc.
I do try to avoid the middle-aged mum uniform of Joules/Boden/White stuff/Sea Salt and 'adding a scarf for a splash of colour' whilst that does work for some it doesn't for me. I briefly lost my style in the post-baby years and defaulted to that look, then found the odd bit of All Saints, Anglomania, Topshop and instantly shed about 15 years (in my head, don't care what others think). Really like the Kooples, Zadig & Voltaire, BA&SH, Maje and mix it up with (unbranded) superdry and Abercrombie & Fitch.Always hunting the high quality pieces in Zara and H&M too.

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 09/05/2020 10:52

@Octopus37
Haha I'm so very same.
In my head I'm like 18 yrs old.
I always liked sparkly bits, sequins, beads..
I remember when I was teenager I embellished boring blue jeans with silver sequins on the outside sides where the line is.
I bough a black ribbon about 2 inch wide and patiently stitched hundreds of silver sequins on it.
Then I stitched the ribbon on the jeans along the whole length on each side.
Lots of people stopped me asking where I got the jeans from lol..this was in 1991.
So yeah I'm probably still in there in my mind!

I think the sparkle jacket looks great but that California one is not to my taste and personally at early 40s I wouldn't wear it.
I think it's reserved for the under 20.

Well I usually wear a boring uniform of dark skinnies and a plain fitted t-shirt/vest with white addidas/converse style footwear.

I'd absolutely love to be able to wear classic trousers and a nice blouse or a pencil skirt with a smart top, blazer and heels but I just can't pull it off.
I just don't 'feel' it. I'd love to look that way though.

MattBerrysHair · 09/05/2020 11:02

One of my friends is 75 and she wears the most amazing pink sequin covered converse high tops. She looks awesome. Hate the 'mutton dressed as lamb' phrase too.

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 09/05/2020 11:12

@spied
That's what my friends said about the California jacket.
I found another one..more subtle haha..what you think?
Or anyone?

I like the more subtle one

copycopypaste · 09/05/2020 11:28

I've been thinking I want to wear more dresses with trainers... but I now have to be comfy so was looking at white trainers from Clark's Grin I'm not going to rock this am I

Sunnytimesahead · 09/05/2020 11:45

Hi OP,
When you said about the diamanté denim jacket I thought it would be really super sparkly but from the pictures I think it looks great, not too much at all I really like it.
I like the more understated denim jacket with the writing on you have just posted.
You look great in your picture, you should wear what makes you feel happy and comfortable.
I too am drawn to a bit of sparkle. I just can’t resist it. Usually sparkly stud earrings and sparkly trainers! Just to add a bit of oomph to my normally boring outfits!
You go girl!

Mascotte · 09/05/2020 11:50

I wear Adidas trainers with dresses a lot. My favourites are white leather with golden three stripes.

Mascotte · 09/05/2020 11:55

@mascotte
Oh sparkling trainers.
Love love love!
I had few Adidas where the stripes were either gold or silver or metallic blue.
Now I'm just onto Converse.
Golden ones or sparkling pink ones. Had sequined ones too.

Terralee · 09/05/2020 13:17

@Mascotte I've got those trainers & wear them with everything

herethereandeverywhere · 09/05/2020 16:50

@Mascotte I have those but with silver stripes - they do go with everything
