Bright ORANGE hair! What can I do?

londonbrick · 04/05/2020 06:39

Used cassia obovata on my hair last night - as I do every few months - this was a new packet and I usually leave it on overnight as usual.

That was mistake no 1.

I'm next due into work on Wed. Is there any kind of quick fix or do I just have to pretend I was going for a jaffa orange look?

love it

MrsLully · 05/05/2020 21:35

Oh I just realised that you did it with henna. I've never tried it after henna, just after bad lightening jobs. The amount of color and peroxide that you would use with the shampoo is minimal, bit I'd do it on a strand of hair first just in case. Sorry OP!

Ticklemeelmo · 05/05/2020 22:29

I like the colour OP! Nothing wrong with that. Lockdown seems to be all about experimenting with different hair so I reckon just go with it.

Also can't believe Sun in still exists, I had a hair dye disaster with that in my teens.

Snooks1971 · 05/05/2020 23:55

OP you look great and should just style it out.... rock it, I bet you can

londonbrick · 06/05/2020 06:54

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I'm off to face the working day & fear even social distancing isn't going to help all that much.

I haven't mentioned the back yet either. Confused

I've only partly looked at that due to lack of mirrors at home. Perhaps that's a good thing in the circumstances.

In the absence of statement glasses - will this do? Note no change to colour despite copious Head & Shoulders & washing up liquid.

So the plan is not to confess to a bad hair job but act with intention. (without laughing)

OP, i absolutely love it!!! Definitely style it out, you look fantastic!!

atomicnotsoblonde · 06/05/2020 08:08

Fabulous!

Scruffyoak · 06/05/2020 08:10

I like it!

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 06/05/2020 08:25

It looks great, honestly! Especially with the fringe situation going on.

I reiterate my suggestion to just embrace it. If you tire of it, get professional help from a good colourist after lockdown.

This is a lovely (albeit not particularly understated) colour. It suits your complexion, too, from the pictures.

I wouldn't mess with it in your shoes. You'd be running the risk of ending up with something murky-brownish (or worse, if you opt to bring bleach in the mix).

UniversalAunt · 08/05/2020 17:48

Looks strong for Cassia Obovata, I usually get blonde highlights. I do wonder if the powder had a bit of henna in it.

I suggest that you leave it a few days to ‘cure’ before you start emergency measures, as it will tone down.

That said, it looks fab!

altiara · 08/05/2020 20:28

I think it suits you!
I lightened my hair to nearly that colour, (not as bright), only I have brown skin so the colour didn’t really stand out, I was all a similar colour. So I dyed my hair red over the top of it and it went a lovely red! Tempted to try again now I’ve seen yours!

londonbrick · 09/05/2020 06:44

You're probably right UniversalAunt - I bought this one as part of a batch of 4.

I've decided for now to go with it - though when the indigo arrives I might test a little bit just to see what happens.

Thanks everyone for turning a nightmare into a dream. Grin

Altiara - if you do decide to go red - we'd love to see a photo. Smile

Speaking as someone that has my fair share of dye disasters, I think it looks amazing!!

SpyApp · 09/05/2020 07:56

It looks great. Styling it out is definitely the way to go.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/05/2020 09:14

I was looking on another Henna website - it said 'cassia obovata' was a neutral conditioning henna and the photo of the pack says 'neutral henna' . I've spent a while now with no dye and was juust swithering about either Lush or other henna

I was going to treat my hair and apply some ...............but now I've reconsidered .

How is your hair-colour now OP ?

UniversalAunt · 09/05/2020 12:02

@londonbrick (!), I have found the Renaissance brand to be good & the web site very informative.
renaissancehenna.com/

Also Khadi brand which is German, which I found in a health food shop in Cornwall, can be got on Amazon. Again, reliable. www.khadi.de/en/

londonbrick · 09/05/2020 12:05

Here's today's look 70 but I did put another lot on due to it being quite patchy round the back - I think probably because I put it on dry hair - so this is very bright - without any normal washes yet - but with proper coverage.

You are right - it does say 'neutral henna' on the front but on the back it says 100% neutral henna power (cassia obovata)

This is the first time its gone like this though - usually I love how it looks.

Thanks @UniversalAunt - I see they have my exact shade on the Renaissance website. Grin

It looks pretty cool, and like you intended it to be that colour. I think you should stick with it.

Arseit · 10/05/2020 12:27

Another one who has had numerous hair colouring disasters.
I think it looks great Op.
Especially after the second application - looks to have deepened it a bit. Just go with it!

londonbrick · 21/06/2020 11:29

Just a quick update.

I kept the orange for a while then followed advice from @peoplearepeople and now it's brown.

OP posts:
Barracker · 21/06/2020 14:37

londonbrick it looks awfully like the manufacturer has mistakenly included pure henna instead of cassia in the packet. They're completely different plants and the manufacturer should never have marketed cassia as 'neutral henna', there's no such thing as neutral henna, or black henna. There's only henna, which colours hair and skin orange/red.

I took a look at a couple of reviews of this product on Amazon and they are saying that they too have inadvertently ended up henna red. The manufacturer has screwed up badly. Your packet didn't contain cassia obovata, from the looks of it, it contained pure lawsonia inermis.

Unfortunately, pure henna is rock solid permanent. I've been using it for years. A few people have had limited success using hair colour remover products, but mostly the henna just lightens temporarily, then reoxidises again within a week or two.

If you still have a sample of the powder you can challenge the manufacturer.

londonbrick · 21/06/2020 17:11

Thanks @Barracker - I still have 3/4 of a packet plus a couple of other packets from the same source. I'll undertake a bit of research.

Looks like I'll be mixing it with the indigo and having brown hair for some time.

MrMagooInTheLoo · 21/06/2020 17:27

Dye it a dark brown. I've been bright orange, bright pink. When it fucks up I just put a dark brown on
