Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum - worth it?

I really like the look of this but it is SO expensive! Is it worth it? Are there any alternatives out there? I'm willing to invest if it's amazing but is it?

Former estee night repair user, but now I've switched to darphin products primarily.

Darphin is quite expensive, but you only need a tiny bit of the serum, oil or moisturiser.

I also use clarins. Love everything Clarins. I have to say, in my personal experience, that Darphin is the rolls Royce of skincare. Clarins, while good, copied Darphin and I believe to be less effective.

Having said that, Clarins and Darphin are my favourite, been using both for over 10 years.

I would give the Estee night repair 2 months to see if it works with your skin.

After reading about it for years, I treated myself last year. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Others will swear by it, I know Sali Hughes says in Pretty Iconic that it was a game changer, and it undoubtedly was, but certainly on my skin, other serums have done so much more.
That said, you might be one of those for whom it makes a difference. It's not been at the top of the pile for decades with nothing behind it.
A cheaper but exactly the same ingredient serum is the Missha Korean Borabit ampoule. Purple bottle. I tried that too. That didn't do anything either.

See? I'm now going to look at Darphin! I do agree about Clarins too. Lovely stuff.

I used to love it but I would swear they changed the formulation a few years ago and i can take it or leave it now.

My aunt gave me the bottle that came in the Christmas box & I have to say no, definitely not. I got much better results from the
Clarins serum & their blue orchid oil is fab too.

No. It’s lovely don’t get me wrong but it’s not got any actives in it. If it was £15-20 quid I’d think it was fab.

I spend my money on brands led by science like Skinceuticals, Medik8, Zelens, DDG etc.

I tried after I was given a selfridges voucher and thought I’d treat myself - absolutely no effect whatsoever and I’ve almost finished the bottle. Weird as I had heard so many good things and wanted to be wowed!

It made my skin look really good and then it gave me an allergic reaction, my skin is now permanently sensitised (I did already have sensitive skin though).

However, quite a few of the women I know (with really good skin) say it's their favourite product and that they have used it for many years.

Ingredients wise, it has:
(two types of) probiotics/bisabolol/ chamomile (soothing),
caffeine (antioxidant),
squalane/hyaluronic acid (moisturising), peptides (amino acids thought to restore skin).
You can find these in cheaper formulations.

What do you use currently?
You should consider adding sunscreen and retinol to your routine.

I just use a Superdrug serum under moisturiser but fancy stepping up

I've used it in the past, its definitely overhyped.

OP what are you looking for in a serum? I’d recommend the ordinary products. Hit and miss but cheap enough that you can buy a few and try them and use up the ones you don’t like on your chest, hands etc.

I’d recommend a vit C, and a hyaluronic acid serum for a start.

It works so well on my 46 year old skin!

I had given up on ever being able to wear foundation again as my skin is so dry and drinks any cream or lotion put onto it, but then I tried the Advanced Night Repair (Intense Reset Concentrate version) and my skin loved it.

It is £ though so would welcome alternatives as it only lasts me a month.

Ooh thanks this I will experiment as the EL is costing around £50 a month!!
It's do-able while I am not currently paying for a haircut and highlights, but can't justify it long term.

I love it but only get it at Christmas and birthday which are 6 months apart and that's roughly how long a bottle lasts for me. I haven't used my new bottle for ages now (I don't know why I'm saving it...) and have noticed my skin doesn't look at good so I'm cracking it open tonight!

Yes it is worth it imo. I have kids and get up early for work every day, it helps me look alive and my skin is much better since I started using it. A bottle lasts a while.

I suspect sleeping more and a superfood diet would probably be even better but that's not going to happen, so its night repair for now

The purple Missha one is the one I have. It is identical to EL, including ingredient list in that order iirc. As I said, neither did owt for me, but that's not to say it is the same for everyone. I also had the Ordinary Buffet- doesn't have half the ingredients the EL/Missha has and is like putting runny snot onto your face. Awful slimy sticky consistency (sorry!)

It's the only high end product I use and I kinda wish it didn't work for me because £££ but I simply look better when I use it and miss it when I don't. I think I'll use it forever. Always get it for Xmas, and two big bottles does me for the year.

If you want something good with hyaluronic acid that it not that expensive, try Gokujun Hada Labo. It's a Japanese brand that delivers great results. Their lotion is a best seller in Japan and it's great.
