Breast implants worry please help!

Bollocks1 · 27/04/2020 11:11

Hi,

I had breast implants 4 years ago but I have recently read online that the implants that I received were recalled last year due to a potential link to lymphoma. I am certain worried about this and currently pregnant so emotions are obviously higher at the minute. Is anybody else in the same position and if so what are have you done/doing about it?

I keep imagining my poor DD without me because and it's becoming overwhelming.

Any advise would be so helpful

Thanks

X

Hi I've just seen your post when googling. My implants have also been recalled but I wasn't contacted by my surgeon and I'm worried too. Also pregnant. Did you get anything done or speak to anyone about it @Bollocks1

MaRie92 · 29/07/2020 11:39

Hi @chubbyhotchoc

Not really no, apparently if they aren't causing you any problems you don't need to do anything as the change of getting this cancer is very low 99.9% odds you won't get it. I think if they were really worried they would remove them.

ImaWomAnnotaWomEn · 29/07/2020 12:02

Not sure why this is in style and beauty? You might be better off posting for advice in Health OP.

chubbyhotchoc · 29/07/2020 12:36

@MaRie92 I can't say I feel any better. I have actually found a couple of lumps and I'm seeing my gp this afternoon. Can't work out if it's scar tissue around the implant or what

MaRie92 · 29/07/2020 12:41

Hi,

I asked my GP about it too and they didn't really say much about it! I was really anxious too and still am when I think about it, it's not as if we can get them removed as we are pregnant. Apparently having them removed doesn't reduce the risk anyway as they have found it in people who have had the implant and scar tissue removed. I'm angry as they sold them to me as one of the safest implants on the market! Are you planning on breastfeeding? @chubbyhotchoc

chubbyhotchoc · 29/07/2020 12:46

@MaRie92 really? God that's so bad. The surgeon that did mine was a leading specialist in breast cancer and reconstruction. I paid more with him. It was like £9000 and now this.
Not planning on breastfeeding as I have hypoplasia which was why I had the surgery in the first place. How old are your implants? I rang Allergan this morning to check if mine were definitely on the recalled list and they said they are.

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 12:51

@chubbyhotchoc

I have rang Allergan too. They didn't help much either! I'm at a loss really. Just trying to not get too worked up about it as I'm pregnant. I honestly don't know what the best thing to do is! My GP just told
Me how rare it was but it's still a worry I don't want recalled implants in my body!! I hope you get some good advice from your GP, as for the lumps I have a few that have been there for quite a while too. X

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 12:53

@chubbyhotchoc my implants are 5 years old and I went to a a surgeon who did reconstructive surgery on the NHS, have you rang the surgeon/hospital where you had them placed?

I gave them a ring and again..not much help

chubbyhotchoc · 29/07/2020 12:56

@Sarahb1991 who did you have your surgery with? I'm going to call the surgeon's secretary when she's in tomorrow. I'm not happy at all. If they've recalled them from stocks I think you must be within your rights to ask for removal/ replacement. They also should have contacted women to inform them so they could at least be more alert to changes in their breasts. It's not right at all.

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 12:57

@chubbyhotchoc I had mine done at Transform. Where did you have yours done?

chubbyhotchoc · 29/07/2020 13:05

@Sarahb1991 I'm not surprised you're getting little response. Transform are notorious for little interest when things go wrong from what I've seen on the Facebook groups. I went through the hospital but paid privately so I'm hoping the surgeon might be a bit better to deal with but it's very worrying.

chubbyhotchoc · 29/07/2020 13:12

Actually I think it's mya people have had issues with. Ignore me

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 14:50

I have just spoke with the MHRA who have advised the risk of further surgery outweighs the risk of ALCL, he has said the best thing to do is keep them in and be vigilant. @chubbyhotchoc

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 17:01

@chubbyhotchoc

How did your appointment at the doctors go? X

Rtmhwales · 29/07/2020 17:09

I have the same implants, same concerns. Recently found a lump too but doctor isn't concerned.

Australia's health authority even suggests not taking them out as the risks from anesthesia are higher than the risk of getting the cancer. I rationalize that as I've never been terrified of dying from anesthesia so I won't worry unnecessarily about breast cancer. They didn't even want to up how often I had mammograms and said they'd see me again at 40.

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 17:17

@Rtmhwales

How long have you had your implants? I honestly don't know what to do for the best x

Rtmhwales · 29/07/2020 17:20

Since September 2015.

Also my sister has had breast cancer, so I've been very wary about this since it came about. I've seen four doctors total and only one has suggested getting them out - and he mentioned more for peace of mind and any attributed anxiety.

So for now I'm minding them and debating whether I'd have them replaced in a few years. Even if cancer does develop it's the highly treatable type so I'm working on a balance of odds right now.

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 17:26

@Rtmhwales

The thing is I only came about it from looking at breastfeeding and found it in a news article, so I am guessing there are thousands of women who have these implants and are unaware x

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/07/2020 17:28

I've got allergen textured implants. Not sure if they are on the list. I'll have to dig out my paperwork. Had them in 3 years, the ones I'd had previously had been in 12 years and I found a lump and it turned out they needed changing.

First I've heard of this tbh

chubbyhotchoc · 29/07/2020 17:33

@Chesneyhawkes1 it's all the textured ones I'm afraid.
@Sarahb1991 he could feel the lump and has given me a referral to the breast clinic. Apparently they see you within two weeks. I was sort of hoping I was imagining it. Trying not to get unreasonably worried but I'm the neurotic type as it is

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 17:34

@Chesneyhawkes1

I think a lot of women don't know they have them! I think if they are textured they are probably on the recall list. They literally sold them to me as being the safest implants ever!

Also i am not convinced having them out will
Make much different with cases of ALCL being found after the implant and capsule has been removed

Sarahb1991 · 29/07/2020 17:38

@chubbyhotchoc

I wouldn't worry about the lump top
Much as your pregnant and these things do pop up I suppose with all your breast changes. Did you mention the implant recall to your GP?

I am a really anxious person too, I really struggle getting it into perspective, I have been on some Facebook groups that have scared me to death literally. I have rang every heath professional I can think of and all they can say is don't worry 🤷‍♀️ x

chubbyhotchoc · 29/07/2020 17:41

@Sarahb1991 yes. He didn't know anything about it of course but he's put it in the referral letter to the hospital. He did say he couldn't feel anything in my lymph nodes on that side.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/07/2020 18:14

Oh bummer. I've deffo got them too then. I've recently had full body MRI and pet scan so I'm guessing it may have shown up any issues?

My lymph nodes were all checked too. I think I'll just leave them be as don't fancy another operation. Maybe disturbing them would make it worse?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/07/2020 18:15

@Sarahb1991 I was told they were very safe too. Much better than the ones they were replacing 🤦‍♀️
