Where do you shop ? How do you describe your style? How old are you?

Sorry to barge in, VERY skinny and average height. Very difficult to find clothes that are ok (sometimes I'm directed to a teenage section Hmm ) and this happened quite a few times ( I now shop online).
I'm 35 and I like Superdry - hoodies, sweaters and jeans Smile but wish I could look like a classy lady?..

Teabaseddiet · 25/04/2020 22:45

OP - I was about to post something similar!

I'm size 20, 5f9" & really want to look good (following the french fashion thread in envy!) but struggle to know where to start.

So far I have nice shoes/bag sorted, get myself a decent haircut regularly (not at the moment though!).

I have some jersey dresses (from H&M) that I can wear with tights/leggings for work, but prefer trousers. I have some bootcut/kick flare jeans from Sainsbury's otherwise I have no clue.

Any ideas would be great!

bedtimebrew · 25/04/2020 22:47

Midi dresses and low block heels

Or leggings every day when in lockdown Confused

Teabaseddiet · 25/04/2020 22:47

In terms of style, in my head I have quirky fashion style, but this never translates into a good look for me.

escape · 26/04/2020 00:17

I feel your pain. I cannot do 'casual' in any form without looking like Vicki Pollard, so it's dresses or bust.
5ft 8 so not exeptionaly tall, but a size 16 and very lumpy. My waist essentially starts under my boobs and I have a large belly, so am just not comfortable/look crap in anything that sits under or cuts my belly up. also tree trunk legs, so that's nice!
However, what I do suit is dresses, so wear a lot of those. This past winter a lot of midi skirts. I do not think they flatter my arse/belly but I am covered and groomed, I have bad varicose veins so like my legs covered, so 'black tights' weather is my ideal!
I'd love to feel comfortable in jeans, but simply cannot find a high enough waist. Leggings and 'active wear' are a no no, so essentially I have no weekedn look, and whilts at home, tend to stay in pyjamas!
Warehouse is/was my best bet for good length dresses and the only shop where the trousers fit me appropriately too.

escape · 26/04/2020 00:20

Also, the benefit of dresses is that it's an outfit in one! I'm not constantly pulling up or down. Oasis have a 'curve' range, (just thinking of the size 20) warehouse go up to 18, but I find with Oasis everything is 'short' (regardless of size) and this range is simply the same as the regular but sized up - think mini skirts etc, no extra length. Warehouse & Oasis have stopped selling online due to administration, but you can still buy via Asos.

BreasticlesNotTesticles · 26/04/2020 00:27

I wear cropped ankle length trousers for work, straight cut, as get pissed off with ankle flapping or too long.

Love my Kate skinny jeans from Peacocks which have a high waist and last forever. Wear them casually with joules Breton type tops or can dress up with heels.

Like dresses but have shit legs and a high waist so can look really frumpy Sad

I'm 5ft9 and 18/20

Lucked · 26/04/2020 00:33

I think it depends on your shape. I was very apple shaped and it was difficult when overweight particularly dressing up. For casual day to day I wore skinny jeans and a loose top or jumper and my jeans were always slipping down.

I have lost weight and although still an apple I am almost in proportion and it is much easier to shop..

NC4Now · 26/04/2020 00:50

I get a lot from Dorothy Perkins. They do next day delivery and it’s really easy to return.

At the moment, my favourite outfit seems to be skinny jeans from their lift & shape range, T-shirt’s and a camo shacket. Oh, and trainers.

Sometimes I’ll wear a boyfriend cardigan or a biker jacket. When the weather’s not as nice I wear Dr Martens.

TyroSaysMeow · 26/04/2020 01:10

Online; disreputable hippy; thirty four.

Trousers were always a bugger until I found a plus size website that carries jeans that are cut right for me around the hips, arse and waist. They also do amazingly comfortable granny pants, but I've just realised this is in style&beauty so not sure that would be considered a plus.

Teabaseddiet · 26/04/2020 01:26

I think my main issue is tops. I need v-neck/scoop neck because of my boobs, I have a long torso so need long length (70cm minimum), don't want anything too clingy, but very baggy makes me look enormous!

It's a minefield!

Wincarnis · 26/04/2020 04:26

Not very stylish, but plain and simple. Black jeans or trousers (leggings in lockdown) black top (sometimes white) & long cardigan. Summer is a nightmare, like a pp, legs have to be covered, arms too. I don’t suit dresses or skirts, don’t like flowery patterns and hate anything that flaps or wafts around. If I find something that fits really well (extra long t shirts for example) I will buy them in multiples to save the hassle of constantly searching for something to wear.

CillaBall · 26/04/2020 06:34

I guess a lot does depend on shape, not even sure what shape I am! I’m almost 6ft and size 20/22 and my chub is evenly distributed Grin. Wish I could have a stylist but can’t afford that. I like a casual look as I have young kids so feel a bit silly wearing anything to nice. Usually jeans and a t shirt but love a change about sometimes and like a bit of colour but not white

Menopauseandteensdontmix100 · 26/04/2020 08:42

I am 6ft 22 and 50ish. I am apple shaped. I am big all over but especially my protruding tummy.
Watching with interest I like comfortable clothes in colours I know I suit (usually of the bright variety). Black looks draining and dreadful near my face. Navy beige colours and brights are much more flattering.
But i would like to be comfortable but still look stylish and well put together.

Teabaseddiet · 26/04/2020 09:03

Colour-wise do you know what suits you? You can get various online tools to help you figure it out. How about getting a T-shirt/top you like in a colour you think will suit you?
Once you're happy with the colours it might be easier to try out different styles.

I think I have the right colours for me, but always fall down on the styles! I also prefer jersey fabrics, that limits me too.

Janaih · 26/04/2020 09:16

Following. I wear dorothy perkins skinny jeans and v neck t shirts with fitted blazers/jackets. I fear I'm verging on frumpy though, would love to wear brighter colours.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 26/04/2020 09:30

5ft8 size 20-22

In this weather I like cropped harem trousers and long length tops, or knee length dresses with 3qtr sleeves. Gap do a boatneck knee length jersey dress which I have in several colours.

Today I'm wearing these with a black 3qtr sleeve vneck long line top

Bisforbert · 26/04/2020 09:31

Looking for ideas too, I am 5 11 and 18/20. Since I hit 50 I have just given up, I have developed a work uniform of skinny black jeans
, Black shell too and different long cardigans which I team with ballet flats in summer and boots in winter. It doesn't look particularly good but it's the best I can do. I live quite an outdoor life out of work so my "uniform" here is jeggings/shirt/fleece. I would love to feel good about myself again and find something "nice" to wear.

Menopauseandteensdontmix100 · 26/04/2020 09:52

Colourwise bright spring colours
Navy beige browns tan ivory (for jackets, coats, trousers, shoes etc that will go with everything and get lots of wear).
Tops/ dresses - almost any shade of green, bright coral, bright red orange, turquoise, purple, cornflower blue etc.

Teabaseddiet · 26/04/2020 10:42

I've had a look on Evans website (for the first time in a while) and there are a few scoop/v neck tshirts that might be suitable.

BreasticlesNotTesticles · 26/04/2020 11:37

I think it's quite a struggle to get v necks now. Unless I'm just looking in the wrong place 🤷‍♀️

Janaih · 26/04/2020 11:51

You are right @BreasticlesNotTesticles
Boden do nice ones, they are quite low though. I usually wear vest under.

Hoggleludo · 26/04/2020 12:47

I'm always getting told I dress nicely. Even my lash lady says to me. You don't even look crap in your comfy clothes.

I wear a lot of leggings. Dresses. Skirts. Dress up each day! Nice jeans. Nice tops

Skirts and dresses will always look good. Whatever your size. Vest tops. Lacy cardigans. Joggers can be nice too. Just make sure they aren't too baggy.

burnoutbabe · 26/04/2020 12:50

6 foot and around a 16. late 40s

I mostly am long tall sally. Bootleg jeans, t-shirt and hoody (latter 2 from gap/old navy)

I hate skinny jeans, wearing jeans all day at work i want to be comfy, so have gone for baggier abit.

(though right now, WFH so its shorts and thsirt anyway)

Lovetoridemybicycle · 26/04/2020 13:08

5'11" size 24, late 40's
Mainly wear Smart Jeans for work from long tall Sally (32"leg). Avoid Oasis curve as the body is too short. I like a longer t-shirt/shirt generally from Yours clothing, they tend to be longer or careful selection from Marisota or New Look.
Picked up some great thin cotton tunics from New Look and Asda last year to w wear with knee length leggings
Monsoon tend to be longer bodies as well and their XL tops fit.
For smarter events it's fit and flare dresses or maxi dresses for chilled sunny days.
From my username, my cycling kit (size doesn't put me off I cycle 50 km a week-150km at moment as furloughed) comes from Dare2b as fat lad at the back tend to come up short on me
