Face cream with SPF recommendations please?

Hi, I’m 36 and have never had a face cleansing/cream routine. Unless you count washing the face with soap in the shower. I’ve also never worn Make up. So I’m just rubbish at self care routines.

I do wear factor 30/50 in the sun though! But this as far as it goes.

But now I’m getting wrinklier... fine eye and forehead lines and deep between the brow lines. I have always had quite open pores too.

So I thought I should probably try to slow down the ageing process!

Any tips and recommendations for anti weinkle face creams with spf that won’t break the bank please? And any other routines I should be getting in to?

Thanks x

No moisturiser that has spf has enough in it to combat the sun, you'll still have to wear a separate spf too

Thighmageddon · 25/04/2020 16:11

I always put a factor 50 over moisturiser, never rely on moisturiser alone.

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 25/04/2020 17:46

Okay, thank you!

Are there any moisturisers you’d recommend?

I use oil of Olay 7 with a 15spf. I get that probably isn’t high enough but for me spf makes me break out in spots. I tend to keep out the sun so I figure it’s better than nothing.

Piz Buin allergy face SPF30 is gorgeous and very hydrating without being too heavy. It’s also got excellent UVA/UVB factor. I find I can use it alone.

Try getting a really lovely masque (Elemis papaya enzyme masque is my favourite). I also use a manual exfoliant once a week. My face cream of choice is cicaplast by La Roche Posay. A little goes a long way and it’s truly rescued my dry, dehydrated, lined skin.

Thighmageddon · 25/04/2020 18:28

I use bog standard moisturiser under spf and I spend my money on actives like vitamin c, retinol and currently Estée Lauder advanced night repair along with other serums.

Oh and I use Alpha-H liquid gold twice a week too, that's brilliant on ageing skin.

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 25/04/2020 19:10

Crikey! Lots more than moisturiser 🤣
Thank you! I’ll google them all x

look out for when aldi and/ or lidl have cosmetics face care in their weekly specials.
they have some very good products at low prices, but only about twice a year, so look out for them.

i have always wondered incidentally which order to place moisturiser and suncream, if using both. i thought the suncream had to kind of bond with, be absorbed by the skin in order to protect it, so shouldn't i put that on first.
then again i guess the same could be said for moisturiser. anyone ?
i tend to just use suncream, but not sure what to do.

BinkySodPlop · 25/04/2020 20:10

Ultrasun is a sunscreen company which also does "proper" face cream. They do 30, 40, 50 or 50+ and are once-a-day, but you have to apply it correctly. I use the 50+ anti-pigmentation, but you probably don't need that yet. It's available online in lots of places.

Binkybix · 25/04/2020 20:14

Roche posay do a SPF 50 which is lovely

Hoohaahoo · 25/04/2020 20:19

Cerave do a nice cream that has lots of good ingredients in for glowing skin, alongside spf25 and UVA protection.
I would still use a higher spf if possible but if you can’t be arsed then this is a good alternative.

Thighdentitycrisis · 25/04/2020 23:53

Aldi face cream in red jar has spf 30 in it

NellMangel · 25/04/2020 23:55

Body shop vitamin c daily moisturizer has SPF 30. I really like it.

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 26/04/2020 19:11

Fan! Thanks

I don’t get why people are saying a moisturiser with spf is sun standard. Spf is spf! As long at it is certified it works just the same. You just have to use enough of it for it to work at the spf. An spf you are more likely to use daily and enjoy using and use generously is the Best bet. So just try a few.

Spf 30 blocks something like 97% of rays compared to 50 which has way more chemicals and blocks 99% Or thereabouts.

I don’t like using proper sun cream daily as it’s generally chemical sun cream and not good to use daily especially if you have sensitive skin. They also tend to smell rank.
I like mineral only spf. It’s better for sensitive skin, better long term for your skin.

My fave is Clinique city block sheer which comes in spf 25 and 40. I prefer the 25 daily ( not as heavy) and switch to 40 in the summer months. It’s sensitive enough to use around The eyes and eyelids, something people often miss.

dietcoker · 26/04/2020 19:59

@olivehater because the amount of spf content in moisturiser is virtually nil?!

olivehater · 27/04/2020 13:54

Diet Coke I don’t think that is true. It depends entirely on the brand. There are some really good formulations that are marketed as a moisturiser with spf. There are some really bad formulations marketed as purely a sun cream.
You have to use a lot of whatever spf you choose. Always apply liberally whatever you choose. A high spf can lull into a false sense of security and you apply less. So use some something that feels nice and you can afford to apply liberally. That is the most important thing.

dietcoker · 27/04/2020 15:31

@olivehater I'm genuinely surprised to hear you say that you believe some moisturisers with spf in them have more spf in them than reputable sun creams!!!

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/04/2020 18:14

I have spf for use over plain moisturiser but also use Paulas Choice Resist moisturiser which is SPF 50.

Newuser123123 · 27/04/2020 18:30

Can anyone recommend a face spf that doesn't sting eyes? Thank you

LeaveItBarbara · 27/04/2020 18:35

I use the Cerave daily moisturiser with SPF25 most of the year, then upgrade to Ultrasun May-September. Because the Ultrasun has to go onto bare skin, I try to make more effort with active skincare in my evening routine during the summer.

olivehater · 27/04/2020 20:56

I didn’t say that they had more spf in them!

Ladyglitterfairydust · 27/04/2020 21:36

Check out Caroline Hirons’ blog and instagram. There’s an absolute wealth of information on there. She’s got some recent lives saved on her instagram tv all about spf, routines etc.

PamwichShilling · 27/04/2020 22:42

Hawaiian tropic face cream. A lot of sun creams cause me to break out but this one doesn't.
