@0nwardsAndUpwards yes I just used a dressing gown cord, took 5 mins before bed. Just ran my hands under the tap and combed my fingers through my hair so it was hardly even damp.

Did people use rags for curling hair overnight in the good old days?

Yes. I did this when DD had to dress up for Victorian day at school. A bit of a faff but it looked amazing!

Wow Ginger that looks lovely I may have a silk belt somewhere so will try that. My hair is so thick it takes ages to curl with tongs but this method is so quick and easy.

Can confirm it works beautifully

choc27 · 26/04/2020 14:44

I did it last night and the sides turned out lovely. But my hair is quite short at the back so that didn't work so now I need to try and work out how to do the back.

Destinysdaughter · 26/04/2020 14:57

Looks lovely but I can't figure out how you secure it at the ends?

Dickorydockwhatthe · 26/04/2020 15:03

I use a hair bobble to tie the ends of my hair to the robe. Then I tie the robe together at the back of my head if that make sense like rambo 😬. Post some pics would like to see the results 😁

So do you wrap different sections of your hair round? Or just split it into two and wrap the two sections round?

Plump82 · 27/04/2020 14:24

If any of you have Instagram look up Mommyshorts. She's saved a story on her highlights on how she does her hair and it's a similar idea. She uses a regular headband.

haverhill · 27/04/2020 14:43

There’s lots of YouTube videos about headband curls. It works very well.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 27/04/2020 14:53

Yeah put over your head like a Alice band and split it into half. So wrap one side around one cord and wrap the other side on the other cord.

Curling rags are how the Victorians produced ringlets (all the old photos with girls in pinafores, boots and curled ringlets would have slept with their hair in rags.

It's as old as the hills but very effective.

Curling rags are extremely uncomfortable to sleep in through as the hair plus the rags tied tightly are hard and unforgiving.

But worth it for a special occasion and the ringlets are dried in so they are springier and tighter for longer than anything that could be achieved with heated curling tong.
