Excellent well I love it and it has my size you go for it.

famousforwrongreason · 16/04/2020 21:50

It is not my style but very joules / bodeny. Depends what you want to achieve with it? Make a statement or just wear a top?
It looks very 'nice'. I imagine perfect pristine mum's wearing it, the type of mums who bake daily and don't have baby weight to lose and who's life is Instagrammable. I imagine it with jeans, white trainers and a blazer
I might be wrong...
I wouldn't wear it but my kids would love me to.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2020 21:51

I have several of these tops in similar patterns. I love it. I’m not perfect, can’t cook and carry a bit too much baby weight, but hey ho.

Londonborncatty · 16/04/2020 21:52

It’s prim rather than fuddy duddy. I immediately thought Boden but joules is similar. If you like Bretons, I would personally lose the lemons, and just go for a classic stripe.

Toilenstripes · 16/04/2020 21:54

There’s classic, then there’s frumpy. I think the lemons cross the line to frumpy.

WickedlyPetite · 16/04/2020 21:56

I got one of their flowery Bretons, and on my first outing wearing it, I noticed the woman in front of me in the queue at Costa wearing the exact same top... she looked absolutely lovely in it, and she was a good 40 years older than me.

Never wore it since.

emsyj37 · 16/04/2020 22:01

I have a weirdly similar story to you @WickedlyPetite - I had a Joules breton top with flowers on it and was effusively complimented on it by my 80 yo mum, then a few days later I got out of the car in a car park at the same moment as another lady in the adjacent car and she was wearing the exact same top. She was very beautifully turned out and looked immaculate, but was at least 30 years older than me. I threw the top away.

JellyMouldJnr · 16/04/2020 22:04

I think it is a bit naff, sorry.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 16/04/2020 22:05

Link tells me page doesn't exist, so can't help lol

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2020 22:10

I've got a couple of these tops, bought in a bid to get a bit more colour in my life. I never wear them. The cotton is so thick that they're no use at all on warm days, but also no use on cooler days as then they would need covering up with a cardigan. Not fit for purpose imo.

GolfForBrains · 16/04/2020 22:12

Not keen on the lemons personally, I think it would be nicer without and definitely less frumpy. They remind me of my mum's outside tablecloth.

Jayneisagirlsname · 16/04/2020 22:14

I have a couple of these tops. I quite like them but they do seem to shrink a bit in the wash.

BaronessBomburst · 16/04/2020 22:19

I'm 48 and would buy it for my mother to wear.

ellanwood · 16/04/2020 22:20

I'm not keen on the lemons. Overly fussy in the way that Per Una is too. And so immediately identifiable as 'that top from Joules'. Just get a Breton top. They are stylish and classic.

Bouledeneige · 16/04/2020 22:21

Twee, sorry OP.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/04/2020 22:29

I bought stuff from joules up to about 4-5 years ago but honestly, now I wouldn’t wear it. It’s the same old stuff trotted out every year - you can tell it’s joules. It’s very mumsy and I agree I’d just get a plain stripe Breton if any - more stylish.

I did love the kids wear from joules but it’s only good up to about age 8 - mine won’t wear it any more!

GetOffTheTableMabel · 16/04/2020 22:30

I have one of their Bretons that is just striped, no pattern. It’s fabulous quality, has been washed and washed and not lost any shape. I would replace it in a heartbeat but I do think the lemons (& the flowery ones) take a classic and make it unfashionable. My 74 year old mother would wear this.

Lardlizard · 16/04/2020 22:37

Thanks for the advice, I wasn’t sure about it, so I’ve taken it out of my basket now

OP posts:
borntobequiet · 16/04/2020 22:40

I’m 66 and I think it’s fuddy duddy.

Manyminieggs · 16/04/2020 23:59

Its so fucking boring!

StarlightLady · 17/04/2020 04:52

I wouldn’t wear it because l don’t like the neck line. Also, because everybody knows where you have bought it from before you walk out the door.

LunaTheCat · 17/04/2020 07:30

I am 55 and think far too fuddled.
Go to seasalt and get the Breton without the lemons! Far more classy and chic.

Sexnotgender · 17/04/2020 07:32

Really twee.

Spaceprincess · 17/04/2020 09:00

My 76 year old mum has that top, I've seen a few women her age wearing it in Ilkley...
Plain stripes would be better.

Teatowels · 17/04/2020 09:44

I'm in my sixties, and I wouldn't either. Glad you have decided against it.

A classic Breton stripe is a lot more versatile.
