Dry, cracked heels

BunnytheHoneyBee · 15/04/2020 16:43

I have quite dry cracked heels.

I have one of those school foot files that spins and that helps take away a lot of the hard skin (you know where it gets hard and scratchy?) but it doesn’t quite get rid of it. I’m sure I need to keep doing it but it just seem like a never ending task. I’m trying to moisturise every night.

Would be grateful for help / advice / tips

Does footner make your feet sore or affect walking?

I do have some 8 hour cream so that’s an idea!

I used footner socks last month and was very impressed. Bought another pair to do it again as whilst the majority of hard skin in gone, some is still there/has come back. I have a funny feeling about filing (try saying that after a g&t!) - it makes me cringe a bit just thinking of it. I absolutely live in flip flops though and sick of my ugly heels. I’ll definitely try the Newton’s sponge next. This summer I’m determined to have nice feet for once!

Oh and I had no soreness from Footner and didn’t think about the chemicals - I will now though! But I didn’t have any results with Flexitol at all.

I love Dermatonics Hard Skin Removing Balm (www.dermatonics.co.uk/product/natural-care-hard-skin-removing-balm/). Smells lovely and really works quickly.

Rub your heels hard with a towel straight after having a shower, then apply either Flexitol or O'Keeffes healthy foot cream.

I don't usually get dry skin on my heels but if I do, mainly when I'm only wearing flip flops, I use either of those creams and it's gone almost instantly.

Flexitol heel balm is fantastic! I’ve also been using it on particularly dry patches on my hands recently with all the extra hand washing and it has made such a difference - amazing stuff! Amazon have it if you can’t get out atm

I don't like foot files at all, especially the Scholl one; I've almost drawn blood with that!

2 or 3 nights a week, I slather on Cetraben cream, then I layer over it with soft yellow paraffin ointment. I think you can get both at pharmacies.

Then I wrap my heels in clingfilm and put on a pair of socks and leave it overnight.

I had Psoriasis so bad on my heels & toes; I was dripping blood everywhere. The cracks were wide open and and because they allowed in bacteria, I had Cellulitis 3 times. I could barely put my feet on the floor. Till the cuts were healed, I also used DiproSalic, prescribed by a Dermatologist.

I now use the routine I've described to keep it from getting bad again.

I use flexitol heel balm every night and it’s the best thing I’ve ever tried. And I think I’ve tried most creams. I also use the Soap and Glory foot file that was recommended on here years ago. Only use it about every month or so. It’s not aggressive and that and the flexitol has got mine soft and smooth.

OK well we can call this my BEFORE but I have used the scholl roller a fair bit this week so they are actually much better and probably look better than they are as it’s a bit dark Grin

No moisturiser on

I will put something on them tonight before bed

I scholled them this evening before my shower because they felt rough and spikey IYKWIM

But I’m going to go to the pharmacy soon (there’s one around the corner) to see if I can get one of those Newton sponges

Mine is way way worse (on one heel weirdly). I never wear shoes or socks, except for being out the house - barefoot to go out to the car, the garden, the garage etc.
Plus I think the foot scrape thing I bought isn't helpful - it's like a battery operated roller.
That's the stuff I'm going to use from today, nothing else.

@Noeuf Mine looked a lot worse the other day before I have it a good filing with the Scholl roller thing so I’m not giving up on that yet.

Do you think being barefoot contributes? I often wear flip flops in the house but rarely barefoot. It will be interesting to see how these things help.

Sometimes I scrape one foot with the other in bed and it’s scratchy and horrible and I try to keep my scratchy feet away from DH!

Yeah I think being barefoot is probably healthy in some ways - less chance of fungal infections maybe? But not in others , a piece of glass worked its way out the top of my foot the other day - no pain, just appeared. Who knows how long it was there?!

Oh wow the glass thing is weird.

I think a PP had said upthread wearing bare feet makes it worse but I don’t know.

Does the Foot Finish sting?
