My skin is full of blackheads. Constantly.

I cleanse tone and moisturise and double cleanse tone and moisturise at night.
I do facemasks 3 times a week and exfoliate twice a week.
It still looks like this.

My skin is full of blackheads. Constantly.

Mine looks like that. It's just the size of your pores, not sure what to suggest I've just accepted it. Maybe some kind of laser treatment?

justilou1 · 11/04/2020 10:50

How old are you, OP?

thethoughtfox · 11/04/2020 10:52

I started using that Sand and Sky pink clay mask. My skin is transformed: almost no blackheads, pores smaller and much less noticeable, acne scars faded.

Lottiebugz22 · 11/04/2020 10:54

I'm 29

thethoughtfox oh that sounds promising!

Another vote for sand and sky pink clay. If you keep an eye out for Aldi special buys as their pink clay dupe is just as good and a lot cheaper.

Lottiebugz22 · 11/04/2020 11:02

Soloula that's great thank you.

I use Jojoba Oil and a hot facecloth and find that makes a huge difference (used every night)

VillageFete · 11/04/2020 12:49

I’m reading fantastic things about Paula’s choice 2% BHA liquid for black heads and large pores.

Aquicknamechange2019 · 11/04/2020 12:50

I don't think they're blackheads. I think they may be sebaceous filaments.

wickedfairy · 11/04/2020 13:01

They aren't blackheads, they are sebaceous filaments. You need to use a good acid toner, a BHA one is best for that.

Lottiebugz22 · 11/04/2020 13:16

I looked at nip and fab salicylic acid toner would that be suitable for sebacious filaments?

OP posts:
thisenglishlife · 11/04/2020 13:54

Adapalene (Dermatica or online pharmacies like Boots or Superdrug) and salicylic acid.

Confused866 · 11/04/2020 13:55

Nip + fab stuff is good, I’ve been using the glycolic acid range and it’s improved my skin massively but I’m going to try the salicylic acid pads and cleanser because I still have blackheads and a few spot breakouts

fuckinghellthisshit · 11/04/2020 13:56

Acid toner with BHA will sort it.

cargghkkk · 11/04/2020 14:45

I had this exact problem and have been using The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc serum on my just my nose and they've cleared up loadssssss in about a week - highly recommend!!

LaLaLanded · 11/04/2020 14:46

Paula’s Choice 2% BHA or COSRX blackhead power liquid!

Both great for sebaceous filaments, under-skin bumps etc.

justilou1 · 11/04/2020 23:21

Sand and sky is ridiculously expensive. You are better off using a 20% BHA serum, (ie the Ordinary) letting it dry for 20mins then applying any clay mask over the top of that!

I would also start every evening by using an oil cleanser that emulsifies, to break down any sunscreeen, makeup and oils on your face, and massaging that all over, then again with warm water. Then I would wash it off with a gentle, ph-balanced cleanser and flannel. I would be wary of moisturizing products containing coconut oil, Shea butter, and the thicker “natural” cream products as they are known to clog pores. I would use gentle, hyaluronic acid serum and maybe something like the ordinary natural moisturiser factors. Until your skin settles down.

violetbunny · 12/04/2020 04:47

Yep, they're sebaceous filaments. I also recommend Paula's Choice BHA, I've been using it for a really long time (15 years+) and see a massive difference every time I stop using it.

2020changedtheworld · 12/04/2020 05:04

I use a dermaflannel and find it does help, you have to be gentle (ish) at first but it makes a nice difference, even once a week. Mine has lasted years.

DungballInADress · 12/04/2020 08:51

Thank you for this!
I just came on to ask about The Ordinary products for oily skin with open pores and found all my answers (my skin looks a lot like yours)
I've had Sand + Sky in my beauty subscription box and to be honest, didn't see a huge difference and couldn't justify the price tag.
Off to look at The Ordinary now....

thisenglishlife · 12/04/2020 14:47

I would recommend the Superfacialist clay mask or Sukin clay mask, Superfacialist Vitamin C cleanser (Boots and Feel Unique) and Paula's Choice liquid salicylic acid.

justilou1 · 13/04/2020 23:35

I forgot all about the Ordinary Salicylic clay mask. I haven’t tried it because it’s always sold out where I live. My friend who has much oilier skin than I have absolutely swears by this one. She also uses it to spot treat. (She sleeps with it on her nose and chin, but I would definitely test it before doing that!!!!)
