Are you still buying clothes online?

I went on the White Stuff website last night and they seem to have some amazing sale deals and be taking orders as normal. I nearly clicked but suddenly thought about all the workers in the supply chain and that they should really be staying at home. Are you still buying stuff online?

I would love to as some of the stores have great promotions on but I don’t see the point if I’ve got nowhere to go. I can’t wait to treat myself as soon as this is over though.

BlingLoving · 26/03/2020 22:53

I have been worrying about this. The problem is that ds NEEDS new clothes. He is a nightmare to buy for due to a.combination of sensory issues and size/shape. I dont do online for him anymore as we have to send most stuff back but we cant go to the shops so now I dont know what to do because I am not even sure if I will be able to send stuff back, even if I do buy online. Plus I have same issues and concerns re forcing people in to work in warehouses and whether they are safe. But then I worry that some work needs to be kept and people need work and if done carefully then...

So basically I am conflicted, confused and indecisive.

DD works for a fancy dress company. She and all her team have been sent home on no pay due to nobody ordering. Sad

LizziesTwin · 26/03/2020 23:06

Outnet have said they won’t be despatching anything, presumably due to the shutdown of non-essential services in Italy.

Chienloup · 26/03/2020 23:07

No, I'm not. But some scumbag chose now of all times to fraudulently buy a set of airports, a Nike hoodie, and a pair of Air Force Ones on one of my online accounts last night. Fuckers.

nowwaitaminute · 26/03/2020 23:30

No, I really only buy clothing if they are needed! I use a capsule wardrobe so I only replace as such. And right now im living in lounge clothes, leggings etc and gardening clothes so my wardrobe has never been so unused.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 27/03/2020 00:18

I've had emails from Next and River Island today saying they're not accepting orders for any more online deliveries after today, or if you do order they will not guarantee when you will get the items as they're closing the service for the time being.
But let's be honest - we don't need new clothes to stay at home, do we? ( although ironically I've ordered new make up !)

MrsTumbletap · 27/03/2020 00:27

What about Amazon? I have heard people are doing there food shops on there?

Holothane · 27/03/2020 00:37

Not now when all this is over new pyjamas clothes I don’t need but have reusable sanitary pads for incontinence, new bedding I’ve gone over to single duvets easier to make the bed arthritis again.

jcurve · 27/03/2020 08:14

Woah! How big is your credit limit to buy 2 airports - are we talking London Heathrow, or Biggins Hill? Grin

Jokes aside I’m really sorry, having to freeze & sort out a new card right now is not needed at all.

We are extremely fortunate that my professional job is probably safe, as is my husband, and we are DINK due to ongoing infertility. I’ve bought gardening supplies and activewear this week, and I’m trying to support very small businesses by ordering coffee, veg boxes, bread delivery etc rather than lining up at the supermarket.

TableNiner · 27/03/2020 08:37

It’s making me think even more about the supply chain for clothing in the sense of all the people who touch that chain. The mind boggles about the amount of spring clothing that won’t sell, am sure there will be deals to be had later although not particularly wanting to profiteer. God knows what the high street will look like after all of this

stardance · 27/03/2020 08:41

I was thinking about this earlier- children are going to grow out of their clothes, people may only have winter clothes and nothing suitable for the nicer weather. People might lose weight as they're rationing food or because they finally have time to exercise. Or they might gain weight because they're eating through boredom or stress!

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/03/2020 08:43

Only some trousers, shorts and footwear for DS. He's doing that teenage thing of growing like a weed. He would be able to wear DHs t-shirts but the waistbands will be too big. DH is a 3XL, DS is just about growing out of children's sizes. DS already has the bigger feet.

Scruffyoak · 27/03/2020 09:43

Nope

Elllllle · 27/03/2020 10:30

I ordered all of my kids next season clothing & shoe requirements a few weeks ago. Everything will shut and not everything will reopen.

HundredMilesAnHour · 27/03/2020 10:43

I bought some leggings from Asos. I'm living in leggings while we're at home but all my old ones are hanging off me as I've lost weight.

CrocusPocus · 27/03/2020 20:43

I'm not. I'm usually a sucker for internet shopping but just can't even really think about it - marketing emails I've had from various retailers seem a bit wrong in the circumstances. I also worry about not being able to return things. If we find we "need" something, eg kids' summer clothes, I'm hoping to find them at the supermarket. Last time I shopped the clothes section was open- who knows whether that will continue, though.

FizzyPink · 27/03/2020 20:56

I’ve just read the updates and now panicking about warmer weather clothing. I came to DPs two weeks ago with a bag consisting of mainly comfy clothes intending to stay for a few days and now stuck here 😂 I may have to do an ASOS order

thenightsky · 27/03/2020 22:37

I'm thinking about ordering nourishing hand care kits from brand alley. My hands are as dry as the Sahara.

Yogawoogie · 27/03/2020 22:57

Nope. I have looked at a couple of sites but can’t bring myself to order anything. It just doesn’t feel right and it’s really making me think about needs v wants.
I have so much ‘stuff’. I don’t need it.

ItsLateHumpty · 28/03/2020 03:16

Thanks for the nudge OP!

It's my DS birthday soon, and we're in different countries, so I've just ordered her presents and card, etc from UK online shops. She lives alone, and obvs can't have family over / go out like usual. I'm hoping everything gets delivered.

Peasinthefreezer · 28/03/2020 05:51

I've ordered new loungewear clothes. Most of what I already had was a bit overworn and tatty looking, as well as being mainly black, I need a bit of colour to keep my mood up.

I however ordered it through Trouva, supporting small independent high street businesses.

Scruffyoak · 28/03/2020 08:41

When someone posted on aibu last month honestly I got mocked for buying next size and season up for my kids ready for the chaos...

RingaRosie · 28/03/2020 08:45

Bought my first ever item online, last night. It was the M&S pink Kate Middleton jacket (I know!). Last one in my size, just went for it.
I live in a big city & always shop locally, independent boutiques & department stores. I needed something nice to cheer me up!

BubblesBuddy · 28/03/2020 08:51

If shops, on line if otherwise, lose all their customers, don’t expect all of them to re open when all this is over. Some people are still on full pay! If the economy stops completely there will be mass unemployment and fewer jobs going in the future. If you can afford to spend a bit, you should.
