Not so much concerned about contagious element

More whether not point spending the money, not as though going out socialising or working for foreseeable future.

What’s everyone else doing if had beauty and hair app scheduled?

No. Non essential

Please encourage them to offer digital vouchers though so you can still support without physically being there.

Bringringbring12 · 17/03/2020 11:01

I didn’t mean from that perspective
I meant purely from vanity and personal financial perspective

Hence not posting on corona virus

I've just checked the website for the clinic I was due to attend on the 19th for a filler consultation.

Message on there saying clinic now closed until further notice due to coronavirus.

dreamingofsun · 17/03/2020 11:03

we all this crap going on i think its more important to feel good - so healthy eating, exercising, looking good. However, i am a bit concerned about hairdressers and dentist visits as they have people breathing over them all day who might not know they are infected. And so surely more likely to get it. And I might go in when they are infected and dont realise and they breath it all over me.....

bottersnikes · 17/03/2020 11:05

I cancelled mine this morning. It definitely falls under "non-essential social contact"!

thistimelastweek · 17/03/2020 11:05

No. I have bought an old style hairband on the assumption that if I don't die i am going to look like Tom Hanks in Castaway

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/03/2020 11:14

I have a relative who is on holiday in Spain. It's under lockdown - but the hairdressers are open. He says everyone will look nice Shock

Mymymycorona · 17/03/2020 11:21

I see what you mean. I'm not going to any Salons or anything, but I am going to fake tan and I got a load of face masks and stuff for Christmas. More a self care thing really as all I will be doing for the foreseeable is working in an ED, I might as well feel good.
DDs school will inevitably shut at some point, so I have nail polish, and some face cloths so we can put on emollient and take it off with a hot cloth. She calls this a spa day. She's 7.
Most of the small businesses around here are adapting so they can offer slightly different services etc so I'm hoping that they remain well supported.

Castaway look I can pull off, it’s more the strip of grey roots that’s upsetting.

@redshoeblueshoe there was a thread yesterday where someone explained that hairdressers are classed as essential (and therefore open) because apparently the elderly go there for weekly hair washes.

Bringringbring12 · 17/03/2020 11:38

I have just confirmed appointment

She sounded so relieved

Like what? Other than food deliveries I can’t see much adaptation is possible

I have appointments booked for nails and eyebrows and I will still be going as long as I am able to. Why would I not? As long as I'm not unwell I don't see the issue. Obviously extra precautions are in place with regards hand washing, but my lady practices good hygiene anyway so I'm not worried. Plus she is self employed and if clients who are well cancel she looses out, I don't think that's fair at all

Mymymycorona · 17/03/2020 11:48

@Bringringbring12 salons are doing elderly hours so the salon is only open to 1 or 2 well spaced out clients max. Open to all but aimed at their usual clientele in this area who tend to be a little older. Some are also offering deliveries and hair services in the home of the well elderly who are just afraid to come out. Very much based on trust that you highlight and cancel if you're unwell, but it's lovely. And inclusive, and hopefully businesses will do OK.

PlinkPlink · 17/03/2020 11:54

I kept mine on Saturday (before the more stringent advice came out).

Washed my hands before and after.

Used my travel wipes before I got into the car with FIL.

I guess it would be worth ringing the hairdresser to see if they're happy with you keeping the appointment?

Obviously, avoid if hairdresser seems symptomatic

Bringringbring12 · 17/03/2020 11:55

Ah you were talking about just small hairdressers

I was wondering about other small businesses when you said “most small businesses”

OP posts:
Redshoeblueshoe · 17/03/2020 12:21

Redred9 I never knew that.

Bringringbring12 · 17/03/2020 12:38

@redshoeblueshoe

There is no official classification of what is essential versus non essential

I've just come back from mine. They've got hand sanitiser and are asking everybody to wash their hands when they go in and are wiping down all chairs, etc after each client. They said they've had loads of people cancel their appts but it's been all older people so far as they're self isolating

FaithInfinity · 17/03/2020 12:44

I go to a small salon. I’ve got an appointment tomorrow. I’m planning to go unless they cancel me...who knows when I’ll next be able to go.

SpeckledyHen · 17/03/2020 13:42

I made an appointment this morning for Saturday .

Mymymycorona · 17/03/2020 13:59

Local nail salon has done the same but I'm not sure how that is going to work out. They don't have any hand sanitiser, doesn't ask anyone to wash their hands (I was there a week ago), have no posters up asking people to cancel if they have colds etc. Their other 3 branches seem to be equally disjointed.
Fingers x'd tho for the 2 local hair salons. They are not chains, I know the owner of one has been known to drop some of the ladies home that don't have anyone else, and they always get a cup of tea and a snack when they are in there. There is a lovely community atmosphere emerging in a city environment. It is definitely a positive aspect of all this madness.

JinglingHellsBells · 17/03/2020 16:20

I really don't know what to do about mine.

I am due for a colour and cut, booked months ago and it's almost 12 weeks since my hair was cut- the maximum I go.

It's a small ish salon with usually 3-4 other clients there at any one time but my main concern is the hairdresser may be carrying it herself unknowingly. She has 2 DCs of school age (teens,) and I'd be there for over 2 hrs for lowlights and a cut. I wondered about changing it to just a cut.

Question is, if I cancel, what is a reasonably safe timescale to rebook? A month, 2 months , longer???

BretonKitten · 17/03/2020 17:09

Cancelled everything yesterday. Will keep appointment with physio/osteo this week, we’re already talking via email about how to do future sessions by video conference.

Terralee · 17/03/2020 18:46

I'm going on Thursday to have a full head of highlights just as long as I don't have to look after any suspected covid patients tomorrow!
Unfortunately I have to work (nhs) & home dyes don't go with my highlights.
I have white bits of hair naturally that are horrible.

But once I start looking after the suspected covid patients I'll have to wear a bandana or something to hide the white bits from the fit doctors. And go back to the hairdresser when I stop looking after those patients.
I know I know it's shallow to care but I do.

I won't be able to see my 70s parents either which is really upsetting & even worse my mum doesn't have / want internet so I can't FaceTime or Skype her she doesn't even have a camera phone.

DramaAlpaca · 17/03/2020 18:52

I got my hair cut & my highlights done last week. The salon was open but asking clients only to come if they were symptom free. I'm glad I went when I did because they've just announced they are closed for the forseeable, which I'm sure is the right decision. I'm in Ireland and we are more locked down than in the UK.
