Does anyone still use a face scrub?

Reading these threads and realised no one mentions face scrubs anymore! Am I the only one still using one? Do I not need one?? Dry skin. Thanks!

I use Dermalogica exfoliant

Elouera · 14/03/2020 10:16

Yes, I use one. This winter my skin has been like sandpaper, dry and scaly! I need to exfoliate so the moisturiser can actually get to the skin, and not sit on top of the dryness.

You can make a gentle scrub with oats. My issue with commercial scrubs is often the lack actual scrub! Some only have a few 'beads' or 'scratchy' bits (cannot think of the term Hmm and don't actually clean the skin effectively. I now use Nip + Fab glycolic scrub. Its gives a good scrub & gets rid of the dry bits. I don't normally spend £13 on a scrub, but its lasted me months & months, and the cheaper ones were useless.

I've used Superfacialist rose scrub for years now. Feels scrubby but is fairly gentle on my skin. I know the current preference is for chemical exfoliation but I'm not sure it's necessarily better. I have a Nip Fab glycolic toner which is ok.

Bella2020 · 14/03/2020 11:17

I use a scrub I bought in Sainsbury's. Its great as I do feel the scrubby bits but it isn't harsh. Recently I tried a Dermalogica cream exfoliant. More of a chemical product I think, but I loved it. Might swap when I run out.

MushroomTree · 14/03/2020 11:18

I do. I use the St Ives apricot scrub. I have oily skin and cystic acne. The scrub doesn't seem to make a difference but I don't feel properly clean unless I have a decent scrub a few times a week.

TheGreyInThisCity · 14/03/2020 11:21

I also have dry skin and I don’t use a scrub. Honestly in your shoes I’d move to a chemical exfoliant rather than a physical exfoliant. Something like a lactic acid based toner would still be exfoliating but much gentler.

firstimemamma · 14/03/2020 11:22

I'm waiting for my st ives apricot scrub to run out. I use it twice a week.

When it runs out I'm going to switch to making my own face scrub.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 14/03/2020 11:23

I use the nip fab glycolic scrub too. I usually wait til it's on offer in Sainsbury's or Superdrug. Tkmaxx also tends to have it for £4

Palavah · 14/03/2020 11:26

Microbeads are really bad for the environment and mostly aren't made any more.

Apricot husks can be far too abrasive for the face.

I followed @labeautyologist and she is emphatic about scrubs being bad for your face. Instead she suggests massaging facial wash into skin dampened with warm water for a full minute. I've been doing that and it makes a big difference.

Pilot12 · 14/03/2020 11:30

St Ives Apricot Scrub for me too!

ChicChicChicChiclana · 14/03/2020 11:33

A thin, rough old flannel wrung out in hot water makes an excellent scrub. Just don't tumble dry your flannels when you wash them. Use with a wash off cleanser - I like the Superdrug hot cloth cleanser.

ExpletiveDelighted · 14/03/2020 11:56

I use Angels on Bare Skin by Lush which has oatmeal and is very gentle. I've tried acids but they just don't seem to do the job in the same way.

Writersblock2 · 14/03/2020 12:02

I use acids mostly, but I do use the odd scrub too.

sunshinewishes · 14/03/2020 12:06

Beauty pie wonderscrub and it's amazing

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/03/2020 12:13

I use Tropic Face Polish

MerryDeath · 15/03/2020 20:12

absolutely not. i exfoliate with differin and various AHA, BHA depending. none of you should be scrubbing with physical scratchy things and the lady who uses st ives ShockShockShock

lotusbell · 16/03/2020 08:13

Yes, I love a good scrub and chemical ones don't have the same effect somehow. Love the Nip and Fab one and still use St Ives, I find the gentle ones quite unsatisfactory.
Have also got a nice Fresh Brown Sugar one which was pricey and not too harsh but smells lush. Rice bran is good as a home made scrub as is sugar.

Terralee · 16/03/2020 11:02

Yes I use the Clinique 7 day Scrub twice a week as it's very gentle

Barkingfuckingdogs · 16/03/2020 12:14

I use acids mostly but a couple of times a week, if I'm feeling particularly grubby, I have a good scrub with Dermalogica microfoliant.

FAQs · 16/03/2020 12:16

I use Dr Botanicals super food gentle coffee scrub, I have try skin and it’s amazing!

Hmmmwhatsthat · 16/03/2020 12:23

I use the Aldi one in the pink tube. Makes my skin feel so smooth and I always feel that my moisturiser sinks in better after.

EndlessUserName · 16/03/2020 13:26

Thank you all! I'll carry on Smile

Scrubs are dreadful for our skin.
Those still using them, please look at acids.
If used correctly, you’ll be doing your skin a massive favour!
St Ives? Shock

Craftycorvid · 17/03/2020 17:28

Yes, I like the Lush sea salt one. Don’t use it often though.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/03/2020 17:30

I also use the dermalogica one which is an exfoliant rather than a scrub and is excellent
