The VERY start of smokers lines (pics)

I have begun to see the shadow, the merest glimpse of smokers lines in the odd photo but it’s become more noticeable in recent weeks.

The first photo actually looks like somebody has drawn a line on my face! It was shadow of an emerging baby wrinkle and it’s so long!

Just wondering what I can do to offset these horrors.

I am assuming that THE only method is a dedication to retinol?

I can't see any smokers lines. But (you don't mention if you have already) stop smoking?

Zebracat · 09/03/2020 02:54

Please stop smoking. I stopped a few years ago but the lines look awful.Yours will only get worse. Also have gum disease and loose teeth. However my hair and skin generally have really improved since I stopped. And I no longer smell.

OwnedBy2Cats · 09/03/2020 03:11

I have those lines and I’ve never smoked.

AxisOfDick · 09/03/2020 05:05

I DON’T SMOKE!

This is what makes it even more tragic Shock

So I just want to know what I can do about them?

AxisOfDick · 09/03/2020 05:06

What else are they called?

WanderingTrolley1 · 09/03/2020 05:20

How old are you, Axis?

AxisOfDick · 09/03/2020 05:27

47

I have the start of them and don't smoke. I'm 42. For me it's from sleeping on my stomach with my face smooshed up on the pillow. I've decided to just accept it as I so much prefer stomach sleeping!

TKAAHUARTG · 09/03/2020 05:45

Surely it’s sun damage? You also have a lot of thread veins around your nose which is also sun damage. You can stop it getting worse by using sunscreen every day.

Honeybee85 · 09/03/2020 05:51

I heard such lines can be caused as well by drinking often from water bottles instead of using a cup or a glass to drink from because you ‘pout’ your lips much more to have a sip, quite similar to the smoker taking an inhale from a cigarette...

Not sure what you can do about it, perhaps retinol is indeed a good one.

OwnedBy2Cats · 09/03/2020 07:02

Some of us just have very delicate skin, and in my case had plenty of sun damage in childhood due to where and when I grew up. Nobody drank out of bottles back then. Bottled water was not a thing.

UK winter sun at age 47 is not going to contribute to the problem.

But to answer the OP, I’m sorry, I don’t know! I’ve just accepted it.

SouthWestmom · 09/03/2020 07:06

I just don't get why you feel better for posting this

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 07:12

The OP doesn't have thread veinsConfusedHmm

I have smokers lines too and never smoked at all and it's not sun damage either. If anything I imagine it's loss off fullness due to age. I run some eye cream round my lips at night and pray for the best.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 07:13

** I can't actually see any lines in your photos OP.

Sammi38 · 09/03/2020 07:17

It’s just the puckering action isn’t it? It’s not just smokers that get it, drinking from sports bottles or actions where you’re constantly puckering your mouth will make you more susceptible to them. I can’t really see anything from your photos, just a very faint line above your lip?

Just to add, I can’t see any thread veins and your skin looks really good.

ElbasAbsentPenis · 09/03/2020 07:37

I always wonder what some posters will make of it when they continue to age, despite having worn SPF 50 all their lives. 🤯 If you’ve made it to 47 and this is your first wrinkle, OP, I salute you! You can hardly see it. Your skin looks great to me. I have these little wrinkles too at 43. Apart from fillers there’s not much you can do. It’s just what happens as you get older and move your face at all - particularly if you’re fair skinned.

AxisOfDick · 09/03/2020 07:45

I have a couple of thread veins at the bottom of my nose, yes, years of hayfever will do that thanks Hmm

I wanted specific advice on the lines not a critique of ny face, thanks.

Anyway presumable retinol is the answer
I drink a lot of water so yes it could be that.

@ElbasAbsentPenis
Im blonde and Scottish and lived for a decade in South Africa so basically im probably doomed either way.

You can't stick fillers into lines, can you? How precise can you be with them?

OP posts:
GenevaMaybe · 09/03/2020 07:51

Yes it’s a filler thing. If you are talking about your top lip? V tiny amount of filler

Ginfordinner · 09/03/2020 07:53

I can't see any smoker's lines either. I'm 61 and my top lip now looks like I am on 60 a day. I have never smoked and have rarely drunk straight from bottles, much preferring to drink out of a glass.

I just accept it as part of ageing.

RuggyPeg · 09/03/2020 07:55

Yes you can do fillers in that area but you're not there yet. It's called ageing. It's shit and it sucks but at 47 and being blonde/fair skinned, now's the time when aging will accelerate. Sorry ☹️ Dermarolling and retinol for now.

Sammi38 · 09/03/2020 08:00

I’m getting filler next month for a pesky line between my lower lip and jaw.

I also had a medium/deep chemical peel which shallowed some old acne pitting.

Sunshinespacecadet · 09/03/2020 08:09

I honestly can’t see any lines OP your skin looks fine. I think sometimes we are over critical of ourselves x

myidentitymycrisis · 09/03/2020 09:10

These are mine OP, hope that helps you feel better!

Any advice welcome

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 09:13

Mine are like that too.
