Phillips Lumea it’s a miracle

Bought my prestige just before Xmas and started at new year , at first I thought it wasn’t working but about 4-5 cycles in now and bikini area is about 80% hair free and legs just have the odd patches left , I’m confident that in a month or so I will be hair free 😀.
Best £250 ever spent and completely life changing not scraping away at my legs daily . I’m excited to put fake tan on and not have it removed all summer by shaving .

I keep seeing people rave about these but the price makes me very nervous. I can tell it’s one of those things that you either love or will be consigned to a drawer.

Is it worth me trying ipl at a salon somewhere first?!

Ninkanink · 03/03/2020 19:39

It’s not so much whether you will love it or not. If it works for you I guarantee you will love it. If you have the right skin/hair type then I don’t think there’s any chance that it wouldn’t be worth the money.

cheesypeas123 · 03/03/2020 19:45

Does anyone find it really time consuming though? I bought mine last year and although initially great after 5-6 treatments a few month without things nearly back to normal. Having to shower & shave then start zapping - lower legs seem to take forever as was getting v patchy results so started drawing lines with white eyeliner etc. Nearly have to start from scratch again this yr in advance of summer. Is anyone else the same?

Ninkanink · 03/03/2020 19:49

My legs take about ten min each. I only do below the knee.

I usually shave in the evening, next morning I do top lip, underarm and intimate area which takes maybe ten minutes altogether. Then in the evening I’ll do my legs, usually while watching or listening to YouTube. I just look at it as down time, chilling and looking after myself.

NarniaBanarnia · 03/03/2020 20:12

Ninkanink do you have the Advanced or the Prestige? I can't work out the difference (apart from price!)

Ninkanink · 03/03/2020 20:14

I think it’s the prestige? Whichever is the most expensive one (bought in Black Friday sales).

Ninkanink · 03/03/2020 20:17

I think the main difference is that the more expensive one can be used cordless, and it comes with more attachments as part of the package. I didn’t have to get my head round it, thank goodness, as my DH looked into it and bought it for me (he likes researching stuff, I get impatient). I tend to use mine plugged in because it’s more efficient that way, so I don’t think the cordless facility is a major advantage.

NarniaBanarnia · 03/03/2020 20:17

Ah... clever you! I can't relaly afford that even on the current discount :( but could maybe stretch to the Advanced - but it's still a lot of money if it's nowhere near as good. Maybe I should save up for the Prestige.

Ninkanink · 03/03/2020 20:18

I’m not sure there’s any difference in how effective it is. It might just be that the cheaper one comes with only one or two attachments (not the end of the world) and has to be plugged in to use. But I’ve never had one before so I’m afraid I can’t make comparisons.

NarniaBanarnia · 03/03/2020 20:21

Thank you. Good to hear such positive reviews of the Lumea, I've toyed with the idea of buying one for a while as I'm such a good candidate but this thread is pushing me closer...!

DavinaAddict · 03/03/2020 20:22

I wish I could get one, but it doesn’t work on redheads Sad

EntirelyAnonymised · 03/03/2020 20:29

I’ve had both. The top end cordless and the basic plug in one, there isn’t much difference. I replaced the top end one after several years when it wasn’t holding charge very well anymore (as happens to all rechargeable battery devices). I didn’t want to spend another £400 so I bought the bog standard one for just over £100.

Main differences are that it is corded, the window on the cheaper one is smaller and the head is fixed (but can be used pretty much everywhere - I use it on ‘tache area too with no ill effects). I think it the bulb also has slightly fewer ‘flashes’ than the more expensive one (I think the £££ one is supposed to last an average of 250k flashes and the £ one is 200k flashes). That’s fine by me as the battery on my old one gave out before the bulb ever did. The cheaper one is also smaller and lighter so I find it a bit easier to hold and handle, despite the cord.

LesLavandes · 03/03/2020 20:30

Does it work if you were dark haired but now grey hair?

LesLavandes · 03/03/2020 20:32

But body hair still dark...

This is the basic one I bought to replace the all singing all dancing one. I didn’t pay £220 for it though, it was on a half price deal when I picked it up.

EntirelyAnonymised · 03/03/2020 20:37

Yes, so long as your skin tone is within the tones the Lumea can work with. It doesn’t matter what colour the hair on your head is, it’s the colour of the hair you are treating that matters.

Phillips Lumea it’s a miracle
Forrandomposts · 03/03/2020 20:39

I haven't found mine perfect. I've been using it for about a year and still get patches on legs / bikini and full growth underarms Hmmthough it has made the hair there softer.

It's not painful (if it is you need to turn down the setting) and you can wax or shave it makes no difference.

emphasisofmatter · 03/03/2020 20:48

I've got one but haven't been great at sticking to the schedule!

When you do facial areas - upper lip/ chin - do you shave these beforehand then? I haven't been brave enough to do this yet

SagelyNodding · 03/03/2020 20:56

I have the advanced, bought on black Friday on Amazon and I looove it! All those years spent worrying about my hideous bikini line, I had no idea how much of a difference it would make for me-I live in a hot place and am on the beach a lot from April until October.
Mildly painful on sensitive areas, patchy results on armpits but still miles better than before.
I shave on a Saturday morning and do the Lumea every other Sunday morning while watching TV, takes about 30 minutes.

Ninkanink · 03/03/2020 21:04

Yes I shave my top lip before treating. I’d stopped having it waxed years ago as apparently it’s quite damaging to the skin. I used hair removal cream for a few years but it was starting to leave faint chemical burns (dark area on top lip) so I’ve just been shaving for a few years anyway. I’ve not got all that much hair there and it’s not super dark so shaving hasn’t been too scary, it never grew back thicker, stronger or darker. But it’s a lot easier just to use the Lumea as I was shaving maybe once every two or three days.

Hairs grow back at a much lower rate with Lumea treatment so it shouldn’t encourage more growth if that’s what you’re worried about.

Bodear · 03/03/2020 21:11

Has anyone has good results using it whilst still waxing/ epilating? The Philips info says you can....

ichifanny · 03/03/2020 23:04

I shaved before but think it says you can wax too with the Lumea , I don’t as I can’t be arsed mostly so shaved and results were good .
First few times were a faff and I was clearly missing bits of my legs but with accumulative use seem to be getting the majority done.

Ninkanink · 05/03/2020 15:39

In the interest of accuracy I decided to time my treatment today.

I did top lip and chin, underarms, intimate area, and both legs below the knee. I did it all in one go whereas I usually do it in two sessions. I didn’t actually need to do my legs, they were completely hair free, but I thought I’d just do one more treatment so that I can maintain everything in a month’s time.

It took 43 minutes all in. So actually slightly longer than I had thought. I guess that demonstrates that it helps that I find it quite a nice and chilled thing to do - I just consider it down time/pampering, and possibly also that breaking it up into two treatments probably also helps it not to feel too onerous.

Fingers crossed I won’t need to do another treatment now for a month!

Batshittery · 05/03/2020 15:50

@HumphreyCobblers. I am mixed race (black/white) and it works on my skin. A pp has posted the skin/hair chart showing who it will work for. No red or grey hair unfortunately .

ichifanny · 05/03/2020 15:57

I did mine too Nink roughly 30-40 mins I didn’t do armpits today though that was shaving before also though
