What makes a woman glamorous?

Just that really!!
Inspired after a colleague saw me stuffing my mouth with biscuits and remarked ‘what are you eating?! You always look so glamorous and not the type to walk around with a mouthful!’

Made me think Hmm am I glamorous?
Always have a full face of makeup on (primer, concealer, foundation, bronzer, blusher, mascara, lipliner and lip balm), hair clean and tied in a high ponytail. Have to wear a uniform to work but opt for the dress with a waist belt option.

So what to you sets a woman aside as glamorous?
I’m secretly complimented as I have a crush on said colleague Blush but also wondering if it means he just sees me as a Joan Collins impractical Dynasty type so not such a compliment Grin

Well this thread is a bit upsetting. Couple of friends call me glamourous and I always thought it was a compliment 🙁

I wear minimal make up - tinted moisturiser and eyeliner and my hair is too frizzy to look groomed. I never wear nail polish, either, but I dress for my shape and usually opt for a pair of dangly earrings. That's about it. Now I'm worried I look to try hard and like Joan Collins!!

@Leafy3 - take it as a compliment. I think Ivana Trump and Joanna Lumley, but it's very subjective!

Fifties Hollywood wearing Dior New Look and evening gowns. To me, glamorous and elegant are very different. Katherine Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman were elegant, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor were glamorous.

I would agree with you, @Rapidtango!

Yasmin LeBon was a parent at DDs school back In the day. Glamourous is looking perfect on every occasion. Speech day or quiz night. Perfect skin, clothes and wearing them well.

Your colleague is negging you.

Glamour is that undefinable something that makes someone stand out as special. It's more than good skin/expensive haircut/well fitting clothes/expensive accessories- it's a kind of star quality.
Glamorous people will often have all of the above, but so do people who look classy/expensive but it's not the exact same thing.

Sunglasses and well applied lipstick do help though.

I get called it frequently and I take it as a slur.
I don’t want to look “ glamorous”- to me it smacks of ageism.

Cam22 · 21/08/2022 13:34

Joanne Lumley is far too classy to be glamorous.

Glamorous is wearing satin and shiny fabrics, high heels, wearing too much gold jewellery, being smothered in heavy perfume, showing too much cleavage.

It doesn’t seem like a compliment to me.

MacaroniBaloney · 21/08/2022 14:25

I oftern get told I'm glamorous, but I always make an effort and I think that's what people perceive as 'glamorous' rather than I look like a Joan Collins throw back.

I'm not a natural beauty, more handsome than pretty. But once I've some make up, hair done and a co ordinated outfit I look and feel a million times better.
