Can you recommenced something amazing to save my coloured hair that isn’t olaplex??

Have always had dark coloured hair but last few months have had some fine bleach high lights put in and it is not doing the condition any favours. Olaplex is not for me at all. Feels like straw after using it at home.

Iv tried loads of different masks for coloured hair but none leave the dark shiny and the bleach looking ok?! I use heat protector and use an oil also which has helped but it never looks healthy and swishy anymore? Sad

Definitely the Moroccan oil hair mask for damaged hair. I have very similar hair and it's the bane of my life! I tried the bleach one too plus opened plus PK..you get the picture Grin

Osmo hair mask

Wonderingwhyme · 01/03/2020 20:15

Moroccan oil one is £££££! Bit too much for me to gamble with when all these others haven’t helped unless anyone knows of a mini or travel size one to try? Will look at Osmo next.

As I understand Olaplex 1 is mixed with the colour, 2 is put on after colour is rinsed and left for 10 and 3 for me is put on at night on wet hair and washed as normal next morning. I love the stuff and my hair is so much stronger for using it. I wasn't aware there was a 7! Will have to try! The wella fusion treatments are also good.

Popuppippa · 02/03/2020 01:15

The Aphogee 2 step protein treatment is good - lots of clips on YouTube.

Girlintheframe · 02/03/2020 06:05

Yes you can get a travel size of Moroccan oil mask. I only ever buy travel sizes now to try having spent a ridiculous amount on products that don't work! It is expensive but lasts me months. I use it 1/2 a week. It's one of the few products I rate for my hair

Milkshake range has been great for my dry, highlighted hair.

Shu uemura also do an intensive mask, not sure of the name but it comes in a round blue / green tub. It’s amazing and £££ but it lasts aaaaages and is really moisturising.

Wonderingwhyme · 02/03/2020 16:29

I don’t know what to do with my hair. The colour is messed up. The dark keeps turning a ginger tone. The colour is a dark brown, no red in it. So fed up with it. Have changed hairdresser and don’t know if I should change again?

Superdrug Argon oil elastasizer is amazing! Only £3.99. I sleep in it overnight then wash it out and shampoo etc in the morrning.

Girlintheframe · 03/03/2020 16:34

Ooh forgot another product which I really rate! It's by the brand Shea Moisture. It's their Jamaican Black caster oil hair mask. I sleep in it then wash it off the next day. Not as good as Moroccan oil imo but still good. You can often get sample sachets from boots

L’Oreal Professionnel Smartbond no.3 is the conditioner I bought from my salon (who don’t use/stock olaplex) & it’s excellent; leaves my bleached blonde hair really strong and soft.

Joico cuticle sealer - sounds like your cuticle is damaged/swollen and allowing colour to leach more easily. Cuticle sealer applied between shampoo and a reconstructor, particularly just after a colour service, will acidify.

Ideally you would use in conjunction with other Joico products but I think this step will allow better results from other reconstructors/treatments

Wonderingwhyme · 04/03/2020 21:02

Cuticle sealer sounds good...

Anyone a hairdresser? My hair is awful, the ends are awful but it’s the Whole hair not just the beached highlights? I want dark brown hair with lighter strands through to disguise the one or two greys (more to come no doubt) blonde cream etc don’t work As I have so much old colour on it.

You might have to let it grow out a bit.

I really like the pantene repair and protect conditioner in the gold tube. I put a big blob on once a month, wrap my hair in cling film and a towel and let it sit for 20mins. Comes out smooth and swishy.

Wonderingwhyme · 04/03/2020 21:13

What’s it called? I can’t let it grow out... my hair is down to bra level at the back!

I’m not a hairdresser but Chemically altering hair is alkaline, to stop the chemical process, you need an acidic shampoo to neutralise. Like neutraliser for perms. I suspect that any rinsing or subsequent shampooing wasn’t enough to stop the colouring chemicals and close the cuticle

Wonderingwhyme · 04/03/2020 21:22

It’s weird as hairdresser is using wella. I had that years ago and was fine. Last hairdresser ruined my hair .... so went to this new one. My hair has always held the dark no problem but this is disappearing and going vein light and gingery .... I don’t have much bleach in, about 5 or so foils in the top and couple through the length...

If your hair keeps fading and going gingery, it could be due to damage as damaged hair doesn’t trap the colour in and fades much quicker.

Be careful what you use, as some treatments for damaged hair are protein based but too much protein can make the hair more brittle. You need moisture and protein to smooth and repair damage but it won’t happen instantly. You’ll need to do some deep conditioning treatments over a few weeks to really improve things as well as using a decent shampoo and conditioner when you wash your hair.

The Tigi bed head products are really good, the repair or resurrect ones and not too pricey.

Alterna caviar repair is amazing but is between £30-£50 a bottle/tub.
You can get a test kit to try it before you buy full size

Hmm mine is similar - I did exactly the same as you, same length hair as you, fed up of repeatedly having to do roots with dark hair, so had a lovely balayage with the intention of steadily going blonde through the top layers. Sadly my second treatment was a disaster and it was ALL orange. Spent a fortune having it corrected and they had to do it twice.

The ends started to snap off and it looked terrible, nothing worked to soften or smooth it and the condition was awful. So I glumly had 4 inches cut off the length to try and improve the overall appearance.

It's rather a blunt bob sort of cut which really doesn't suit me, but I was avoiding short layers because I a) want to grow it again and b) want to be able to still tie it up. I had it dyed back to dark again with a few caramel streaks through it, but the colour has faded quickly, the hair is coarse and brittle, it hangs in a thick helmet style on my head and I just stick it in a pony tail or a clip lost of the time.

I've had some luck with the Osmo mask, and Milkshake leave-in conditioner, but it never feels very nice. And I get an itchy scalp too!

If I wasn't fat I'd just go shorter or shave my head...

Luckyonetwo · 04/03/2020 21:44

While I think of it I also swear by hair burst gummies. They have all the vitamins in to promote healthy hair growth. Am a big believer in looking after hair from the inside so it grows better to start with. But obviously that’s not a quick fix.

Wonderingwhyme · 04/03/2020 22:03

Iv been taking hairburst for 2 years! My hair was fine and great until the bleach highlights.... oh no I don’t want products that will make it worse?iv been using the red tigi since January.... changed to the L’Oréal long hair/lengths a week ago... my hair is much worse since using that! So have stopped.
