What to use instead of foundation on holiday

I know the easy answer is 'nothing', but I have very very red, and blotchy uneven skin. Day to day at home I use Estee Lauder double wear to cover it up. While most days I'll go without I'd like to make an effort for some dinners out but it'll be hot and humid and I don't want to wear full foundation. Any suggestions that will actually help even my skin tone and make me look a little more polished?

I too have red blotchy skin and use Bare Minerals foundation which is like a BB cream ( can’t remember the actual name) in Ginger.
Go to a Bare Minerals counter for a colour match. It’s fab for humid places as it’s more if a gel that sets and doesn’t run.

Justmuddlingalong · 03/02/2020 14:13

Garnier BB cream original tinted moisturiser is brilliant.

okiedokieme · 03/02/2020 14:15

Tinted moisturiser with uv protection is good, sorry don't remember the brand I have. I take proper makeup for the evening though

BloomedAgain · 03/02/2020 15:05

Some mners were praising a sunscreen with a good coverage tint. I hope someone can jog my memory!

TheGreyInThisCity · 03/02/2020 15:09

It cosmetics CC cream might be a good shout, or Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser is fab.

They both have spf but I wouldn’t rely on them for sun protection, I would always use a separate spf as you’re unlikely to be applying enough to give the right level of coverage.

professionalnomad · 03/02/2020 16:05

Another one for the Garnier BB cream

lilyheather1 · 03/02/2020 17:12

Buy a concealer palette with different tones, the make up revolution one is good. That way you can cover what you need to and adjust the colour as you tan 🙌

PriscillaTheHun · 03/02/2020 17:25

The other option is to mix a bit of your normal foundation with your normal daily moisturiser to end up like a tinted moisturiser.

CoolShoeshine · 03/02/2020 17:35

La Roche posay do a factor 50 facial sunscreen with tint, pretty good coverage like s foundation and ok for sensitive skin.

Following this

OP, you might look at your skincare regime, as maybe you could try something new, so that your redness and blotchiness improves: then, covering up wouldn't be as much of a problem.
You could visit a skincare counter for advice: my daily essential is a Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish regime.
Hope you won't mind my suggestion.

Smellslikebiscuits · 03/02/2020 17:52

LRP Shaka fluid, tinted SPF 50.
Get the one one the narrow square bottle, not the pump one.

Newnamewhodis1 · 03/02/2020 18:35

Thanks everyone, will look at these.

@florriepeck don't mind the suggestion at all! I use good quality serums, moisturisers and masks, an exfoliating toner etc, but I do use Simple facewash rather than a cleanser. I did use cleansers before but it never made a huge difference. Just think I'm unlucky! Also runs in the family, and a nurse suggested I may have slapped cheek (which I thought only kids got!)

Ive just started using Kiehl's SPF 50 so will keep that up.

This is nice

I am very pale, so use the lighter of the two.

Blueberryblueberry · 03/02/2020 18:48

I use the doublewear light on holiday (I also have dreadful skin) if you're red to the extent people are commenting (been there) I'd think about a trip to the GP? I have rosacea and antibiotics have made such a difference

ElfishBiatch · 03/02/2020 18:52

A tinted SPF would be a good bed.

Blueberryblueberry · 03/02/2020 18:52

I also sometimes mix the doublewear light with a bit of moisturiser

lindyloo57 · 03/02/2020 18:57

I tried the bear min tinted moisturiser, but on my oily skin it disappears in a couple of of hours.

deedeedoodle · 27/02/2020 17:26

I use the benefit pore minimiser primer alone and it gives me a great nude look and smooths out everything - a little goes a long way

lindyloo57 · 27/02/2020 18:46

You could try a tinted sun spf And over top try laura mercier mineral foundation for extra coverage, I love it, i use it over my foundations seems to make it last longer, it's like the bear mineral foundation but better. It is now discontinued but there are still some around if you search on line.

mousey37 · 27/02/2020 18:58

I second Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. It’s excellent, all glowy and fresh. I use the Natural Shade.

Throughabushbackwards · 27/02/2020 19:00

Clarins BB cream. Can't go wrong!

squooz · 27/02/2020 19:08

A friend of mine used this which has some sun protection - Clinique Foundation - Redness Solutions Makeup with SPF 20

  • they do an SPF 50 also.
