Knee length boots for fat calves!

I'm turning green with envy reading the thread about boots for skinny calves. Does anyone know where I can get boots for fat calves? I got some from Duo a couple of years ago, but they're too baggy round the ankles. (Imagine Victorian table legs - very narrow at the bottom, before getting very wide. That's what my legs are like!)

Now, I tried on a pair in Clarks, and eventually got the zip right up...but I think they'd stop the blood supply to my lower leg within an hour or so. I'm not prepared to get gangrene in my quest for a perfect boot.

My question is, would the Clarks ones eventually stretch (they were leather), or where else does boots for people with calves like tree trunks?

they do stretch IME
I've had boots from M&S and Next in the past which were a complete struggle to do up and cut off circulation, but soon stretched and were then perfect. baggy boots are really annoying

kindersurprise · 31/08/2007 21:46

Gabor do lovely boots in several widths, but I am not sure if you can get them in UK.

Otherwise, it is real trial and error. I eventually got a pair last year after trying on loads. They are a bit tight, and I don't think they have stretched much to be honest.

MrsMuddle · 31/08/2007 22:08

kindersurprise, I'm choosing to ignore your post about non-stretching boots, and to take MJC's post as confirmation that I should, in fact, rush out tomorrow and spend £100 on boots that will fit me one day! (When I've been on a leg diet.)

Go on then, and good luck!

btw, the trainer at the gym recommended jumping on a trampoline to slim down the calves. Really works too, just bounce on both legs not on each leg singly otherwise you will build up muscle. Must get the trampoline out again, winters a comin'

Clarks do some styles in a wide fit as do Next. Also Evans had lovely boots last year.

SilentTerror · 01/09/2007 10:47

Second that about Next.I bought 2 pairs in the sale last year, one wide fit and one regular fit. Both accomodate my calves no problem!

Bouquetsofdynomite · 01/09/2007 19:50

Top tip for getting new boots on and wearing them in - put your feet in plastic bags first!
M&S were doing stretchy fabric ones last winter, I inherited a pair and they're great. Sound horrid I know, but they're a sexy pointy heeled style and dead plain.

I would deffo buy boots that fit. I sadly threw away a pair that I made dh buy me as a wedding present. They were on the tight side, and I always got leg cramps either during or after wearing them.

They never stretched

SSSandy2 · 01/09/2007 19:54

If they're unlined, or just leather-lined, you can get them widened. Not every cobbler does it but some do. It's often done for riding boots etc. I'd buy the boots I like, show them to a cobbler, get some advice about whether they can be stretched and how much they need to be stretched, given that they'll loosen with wear anyway. If they advise you against it, you can return the boots.

MrsMuddle · 02/09/2007 22:11

Ha! The post-script to this story is that I went to buy them on Saturday, and I could only get the zip up on one leg, so not only do I have fat calves, I have one that's even fatter than the other! But now I'm glad I didn't get them, as there have been some really good suggestions - I didn't know you could get boots professionally stretched - but I am wondering about bouquetsofdynamite's post. Do you walk about with your feet still in the plastic bags, inside the boots? Explain, please. Thanks, everyone. I will try again this week.

I love my duo boots - they have loads of different styles.

you can also get some handmade to fit (if you are flush with cash!)

Tommy · 02/09/2007 22:14

I bought M&S ones last year too - the first time I've ever been able to get a pair that fitted me (fat calves like my Mum and sisters!)

mumtodd · 02/09/2007 22:16

Hi mrsmuddle, I am also large of calf and last year I bought a pair of leather boots from K's, I think they are part of Clarks. They zip up perfectly and are very slimming on the leg. I have quite wide feet too though so not sure if you would find them too wide fitting on the foot part.

paddingtonbear1 · 02/09/2007 22:50

I have large calves too and bought K boots (Clarks shops usually sell them). Most other makes don't come close (and believe me I've tried loads)!!

bebespain · 04/09/2007 08:45

Oh can I join the fat calf club ?
I am desperate for some gorgeous knee length boots but I find they are usually really ugly and even the ones that say for wide calves don´t fit.
Must have a look at Ks

bananaknickers · 04/09/2007 08:51

Go to Evans girls they do lovely boots but are expensive

giggly · 04/09/2007 20:18

Very late message but just noticed thread, get onto simply be they ahve loads and no were as expensive as duo.

chinwag · 04/09/2007 21:00

Not that I have bought any yet, but if you google 'wide fit boots' there are loads of companies that do them. You have to measure your calves, and then order them.

I am planning to do that this year; I am so sick of the yearly shoe shop humliation...

slayerette · 04/09/2007 21:03

Has anyone else tried Jones? I don't have slim calves - and one fatter than the other as well! - but have bought Jones' boots for a good few years now without too many problems.

Joby1970 · 10/09/2007 13:10

Debenhams are doing zip up fabric ones for £20 - & idf you read the daily mail you'll get another 20% off them with the vouchers.

They fit me & my calves are 17.5 inches

SassySarah · 12/09/2007 13:46

It's such a problem, I have been searching for boots for years, i dreaded going up and down the high street. Then i found Duo on the web and they saved my legs from eternal bootlessness. They are a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for, mine have lasted for years. These are going on my Christmas list from my husband this year. www.duoboots.com/calf_fitted_boots/classic/cyprus

sarahlou1uk · 12/09/2007 17:44

simply be or fashion world do boots with various calf widths. I got a pair of leather ones last year for £65 and it is the first time since I was at school that long boots fitted me. Felt lovely and feminine. Have various styles.

GreatAuntieWurly · 12/09/2007 17:46

Evans have some lovely ones for bigger calves,

ImBarryScott · 12/09/2007 17:50
