How to stop my hair having this texture? (Pic)

It's like a layer of frizz and it's so unattractive!
I've smooth dried it but not used straighteners. It's not actually dry, it's in good condition but I've always been left with this horrible texture!
How to make it silky without straightening it to death?

My hair is like this. I do colour mine, so I’m not sure if that’s the reason for my ‘frizzyness’.

Haven’t come across a miracle product as yet, serum does help though.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2020 10:45

It's doesn't look damaged to me, mine is the same, oil helps smooth things down.

MurrayTheMonk · 29/01/2020 12:36

Brazilian straightening if you can stretch to it. Changed my life. You can get diy kits from amazon for £20 or so if you can't afford the salon. Fiddly as you have to apply, dry, then thrice straighten in tiny sections (then not get wet for three days) but I hear the at home ones are good if you can be arsed.
If not tons of argan oil.
Or I sometimes used to slather mine in coconut oil, wrap it and leave it over night which helped.

HotChocolatemarshmallows · 29/01/2020 13:02

Thanks but it's definitely not damaged, I've always had horrendous frizz. Tried serum but it seems to weigh it down so much that it feels lank and like it needs washing everyday.

Last rinse use cold water. Then use a tiny bit of serum.

ClientQueen · 29/01/2020 13:47

You could try a protein or deep conditioning treatment. It could be wanting to curl!
This is my hair - without products/protein, and after a protein treatment and with products
People might have described it as wavy but I actually have ringlets!

ClientQueen · 29/01/2020 13:48

The XHC serum (Poundland/b&m/savers) is v light, silicone free too

KillingEvenings · 29/01/2020 14:09

@ClientQueen, can you let me know what protein treatment and deep conditioning treatment you use? (Or do you go into a salon for them?) Your hair looks very similar to mine when it used to curl into ringlets naturally and in the last year has just stopped :(

ClientQueen · 29/01/2020 14:26

@KillingEvenings I use matrix morpher kick up protein or vatika egg mask for protein - XHC conditioner has silk protein in too
Moisture I tend to go for Shea moisture masks

Nothing2doooooo · 29/01/2020 14:32

Beautiful hair, imo .. ...but straight, sleek, silky hair is the standard of attractiveness and beauty I guess. God forbid we have different textures shrugs Hope you find a "cure".

timeforawine · 29/01/2020 14:32

I've been recommended Olaplex so having that on my next colour apt, mine is a fluffy mess without straighteners.
Can't even dry it smooth :-(

KillingEvenings · 29/01/2020 14:48

ClientQueen thanks! Off to google them now!

gypsywater · 29/01/2020 15:16

There is one product you need...Philip Kingsley elasticiser...changes the hair game....leave on overnight then do your usual in the morning

TeaAddict235 · 29/01/2020 16:39

Totally @Nothing2doooooo we all have to conform and have straight, 'controlled' hair.....but I suppose that is more of a socio-political discussion eh? WinkI'll save my thoughts for another board Grin

Nothing2doooooo · 29/01/2020 17:04

@TeaAddict235 Grin Indeed. If you find that board, do let me know.

Off to get my soapbox ready. Hehehe

doritosdip · 29/01/2020 17:28

Find a hairdresser that does Olaplex

withlotsoflove · 29/01/2020 18:49

Your hair wants to curl op
If you’d like to go with that, l think you’ll get surprised!
I straighten my very wavy hair. It’s highlighted too- l am going to leave it to air dry and see if l can improve things, with the addition of a couple of Opalex.

withlotsoflove · 29/01/2020 18:50

wheelsfellofflongago · 29/01/2020 19:09

My hair is poked straight, trimmed very 6 weeks and the same frizz as OP. No way is it curly or wanting to curl. If it's ever been curled with heat or roller it falls out after about an hour.

I have found I need to not rub it with a towel ( I try not to but bad habit, when rushing, maybe I'll get one of those instant drying turbins off Facebook) Plus I need to condition it all, but that's tricky as can make it greasy. I don't straighten but I could be better with hair dryer as I just roughly do it in 5 mins.

SinkGirl · 29/01/2020 19:13

I don’t think it is damage. My hair is the same and I rarely ever use heat to dry it - I let it air dry and tie it up. Looks a bit better if I use babyliss big hair but not much.

Only hair mask I’ve found that helps at all is Give Me cosmetics Argan and coconut hair mask. Still not sleek but better.

If I leave my hair to dry naturally it goes quite wavy, but in an uneven random way, and my hair is too flat / thin to look nice. If I dry it I get more volume but then it’s straight. I wish I could have a hair transplant, I hate mine.

Cinammoncake · 29/01/2020 19:42

Silk pillowcase might help OP?

Loveablers · 29/01/2020 21:04

Stop using a towel to dry, use a cotton tee shirt and don’t rub it

Pure coconut oil mask once a week for a couple of hours

This will help however your hair clearly wants to curl. It looks fried and dry just by using heat.

I spent years damaging my hair with heat. I only use it on special occasions. Try and find hair styles than involve no heat. You will never have long silky hair because that’s not your hair type/texture.

Curls and waves are beautiful. I wish I accepted this years ago!

PattiPrice · 29/01/2020 22:33

I have your type of hair OP. It isn't caused by heat damage or anything as I had this type of hair as a child. Mine is naturally very dry hair too.

I've tried everything from 12 week blowdrys to oils to the curly girl method to drying in waves with mousse. All resulted in frizz.

That's my hair it's called yuko hair straighting it's like a perm but smooths the hair

Be careful of this as it works beautifully for a couple of times and then SNAP. Your hair, once full of volume, will be thin and broken.

The Babyliss big hair will tear your hair off too. It is even more damaging than a GHD.

The best thing I have found to help is a good hairdryer that reduces the amount of time I spend drying my hair.

My salon continuously pushes products at me which I bought for over twenty years. Save your money.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 29/01/2020 22:53

My hair is like this too and it’s naturally straight - I’ve had loads of hairdressers tell me they can curl it but it won’t hold a curl at all, so it definitely isn’t trying to curl. If I leave it to air dry it looks the same, just a bit flatter on top. Serum makes it greasy. Intrigued by Elasticiser but does it work on thin, flat, frizzy, straight hair?

gypsywater · 30/01/2020 11:31

@MaryLennoxsScowl my hair is really thin and frizzy and it works amazingly!
