Is there such a thing as a fashionable cardigan?

I'm back to work after mat leave next week. My office fluctuates wildly in temperature so need a cardigan or similar. Do fashionable ones exist?

Thermal those prices 😱😱😱

Thermalvest · 29/01/2020 06:46

Grin Let's all get a couple!

SinglePringle · 29/01/2020 07:12

I’m 49 and bought my first cardigan ever from Zara last week. It’s very thick, more like a coat, no buttons, mid thigh length with deep cuffs. Camel coloured.

I’ve worn it to work with caramel coloured leather joggers, big trainers and a cropped, cream, silk, collarless shirt.

SurpriseSparDay · 29/01/2020 07:43

Your outfit sounds fabulous. Where were the leather joggers from?

ThatDreamSheep · 29/01/2020 08:03

I saw some nice coatigans the other day in Next- really soft and thick.

AutumnRose1 · 29/01/2020 10:31

“ Let's all get a couple”

And burn them to keep warm because we lost the roof over our head? Or is just me with the prices?!

I will look at Next. Oh, I can’t wait for it to be not cold!

Thermalvest · 29/01/2020 10:51

Well exactly - that was my point. The prices are eye-watering.

AutumnRose1 · 29/01/2020 10:52

Sorry Thermal

I’m sure there are posters who would spend that so wasnt sure

Also they are not for me style wise! But love the pics someone posted upthread.

NeonCasual · 29/01/2020 14:02

I have the same issue! (Probably because they put me under the aircon)
I have a love-hate relationship with cardigans but I think its really about how you style them :)

Mistral has a lovely selection of cardi's like this one i've had my eye on
www.mistral-online.com/knitwear-c398/knit-or-not-to-knit-cardi-in-star-saphire-p31968

Really lovely colour, goes with everything I think it would look nice just worn simply over jeans :) (not to granny and lovely tortoiseshell buttons)

Hope that helps x

Tatapie · 29/01/2020 15:19

No. Grin
Biker style maybe?

AlaskaElfForGin · 29/01/2020 15:43

I love a cardi, except the really long floor length ones. They seldom look nice IMO.

SinglePringle · 29/01/2020 16:37

@SurpriseSparDay apologies - only just seen this. I got them last year from EssentialAntwerp.

OP - there are loads of really nice / well styled cardigans on the Zara app. There’s a lovely Scandi / Fair Isle one styled with a pussy bow blouse. Am buying!

AutumnRose1 · 29/01/2020 17:12

I was just googling coatigans

This looks like something my late father would have worn.

if these are in style, I should be wearing some of his stuff! I already wear a herringbone jacket which I think he bought in the 70s and then gave to me in the 2010s!!

hammeringinmyhead · 29/01/2020 20:49

Hmm. I wear a big grey boyfriend style chunky knit one from Celtic and Co instead of a coat, with skinnies, black scarf and biker boots. I'm not sure it's "fashionable" though!

orangetriangle · 07/02/2020 19:36

primark have some great cardigans at the moment shorter ones and longer ones but not ridiculously long they dont button up though but have little buttons for style on the sleeves 9 pounds a bargain I have black and grey plus a shorter black one. Have lots of colours though had a job getting black one in my size probably the most popular

Oly4 · 07/02/2020 20:44

I have lots of cashmere cardigans that are hip length and crew neck style. In beautiful colours. I think they never date tbh

bellocchild · 07/02/2020 22:56

Landsend are not particularly fashionable, but they do really good quality cotton cardigans in a massive range of colours.

Skyejuly · 08/02/2020 08:46

I don't like long ones but I do wear a chunky cardi. I like to be warm

dudsville · 08/02/2020 08:54

I have one from the men's section of gap specifically for this purpose. It's a thick cotton cable knit dark grey grandpa style. It's a looser fit, which is more "current". I turn the sleeves up a couple of times and don't button it up and it makes a cute shape.

Amiable · 08/02/2020 13:09

Love a cardi! I have about 6 from Primark - long, edge to edge (no buttons) and pockets . They seem to have them every season in different colours, and at around a tenner each they are fab!

No. Cardies are frumpy and mumsy.

ElspethFlashman · 08/02/2020 18:44

Don't mock, I once had a biker style cardigan from Zara (I think). It was boiled wool so a bit stiffer so it kept its shape. I always felt quite cool wearing it. Got lots of compliments cos it was unusual.

I have seen that Dinosaur button one loads but I just CAN'T with the buttons. Maybe it's cos I'm literally tripping over bloody dinosaurs in my house but I see them as too kiddie.

I wish I could find a cardigan that's actually cool. Some really do make you look a bit prim. Tiny pearl buttons are just the worst. Screams "I'm part of a twinset". No offence, I've owned them myself in the past but I wouldn't wear them now.

Anthilda · 08/02/2020 18:58

I got a lovely floor length one from f&f. I love knitwear and prefer cardis long/oversized
