Is there such a thing as a fashionable cardigan?

I'm back to work after mat leave next week. My office fluctuates wildly in temperature so need a cardigan or similar. Do fashionable ones exist?

I love a cardi, I wear mine fitted, in a Miss Moneypenny style with pencil skirt and heels, I feel very chic dressed like this.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/01/2020 19:03

Don't know how I'd function without cardigans.
Generally shorter, more fitted with skirts and dresses, and longer/bulkier with trousers.

BeNiceToYourSister · 27/01/2020 19:04

I love a cardigan! IMO synthetic ones look awful but decent wool/cashmere/cotton ones can be lovely

Growingboys · 27/01/2020 19:05

Cardigans v hot at the moment. All the young fashion girls at work in them.

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 27/01/2020 19:06

Ted Baker do nice ones but they are usually about a hundred quid

MCBerberLoop · 27/01/2020 19:12

They are totally so trendy right now! Not that I would care (I obviously have such innate style that I could carry off my extensive wardrobe of cardis anytime, anyplace Grin), but they really are. Great way to continue getting away with skinnies... jeans, boots/trainers, top, giant cardi.

I wear them a lot at home - big chunky ones over whatever I have had on during the day. For work I occasionally wear tight fitting button up cardigans in a similar way to a jumper or top but for warmth I use jersey blazers as I feel smarter.

I think going too safe and classic with a cardigan can suggest Dolores Umbridge.

Especially if you're older.

Whybirdwhy · 27/01/2020 20:26

I love a cardi but sometimes go for a long blazer as an alternative just to mix it up a bit. Not as cosy but warm and handy if I need to look a bit smarter for any reason.

SurpriseSparDay · 27/01/2020 20:26

Older than what???

georgialondon · 27/01/2020 20:31

Anything but a waterfall one! I love cardies too!

99problemsandthecatis1 · 27/01/2020 20:47

Jersey blazer could work well. I'm pear shaped so think it'd have to be a classic fitted cardi, I don't do short and boxy well! I'm also carrying a few extra pounds which isn't helping.

I love a cardi. I had a beautiful merino wool pirate cardigan from All Saints about ten years ago. It was a thing of beauty and my bastard of a cat got hold of it and shredded the sleeves with his claws. I've been searching for the perfect cardigan ever since.

Livedandlearned · 27/01/2020 21:49

I have a waterfall cardigan that I quite like(d) Blush

I have this Arket one in the orange, and the moss-y green.

And this Stories one in black, and in grey. The buttons are super-cute.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/01/2020 22:03

I tend to wear the dinosaur ones buttoned up over a stripy t-shirt, with jeans or culottes, the Arket ones open over a printed/slogan t-shirt, or over a black and white polka dot midi-dress.

LilyJade · 27/01/2020 22:16

I've got 2 fitted Chanel style cardis from Zara that I bought last year.
Also 2 more fitted cardis from Zara - a grey & a pale pink with pearl buttons.
Plus a chunky plum cropped cardi with diamanté buttons & brooch from Zara in November.

I like the preppy ladylike look.

But you have to be careful as I once wore a dress with a bland Dorothy Perkins cardi to a pub & got told I looked 'prim'. My boring old DP cardis have now been consigned to the charity shops.

JaceLancs · 27/01/2020 23:17

Uniqlo
Tkmaxx
Benetton
Jaeger
I buy merino or cashmere, cotton or silk in summer - very plain cardigans and get a lot of use out of them
I also have a couple of long line coatigans from jaeger and Ralph Lauren
I’ve always avoided waterfall style as thought a bit aging but I think it depends on style and how waterfall they are, as I’ve got 2 Missoni very lightweight ones which are ideal for holidays and they have a slight waterfall

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 27/01/2020 23:20

I like them and quite often wear them with a piece of neck jewellery (top buttons undone) or a lovely big broach or brooch (sp)

Zebracat · 27/01/2020 23:49

Oh my, I need that dinosaur button cardi.

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 27/01/2020 23:55

Those buttons are cute but I sometimes take plain buttons off a cardigan and replace with better ones...yet to come across some shaped like dinosaurs though.
