My foundation looks fine in the house but appalling in daylight

Am 58. Am using Max Factor Radiant Lift Looks nice when applied but, not good at all, in daylight. Shows my fluffy blonde downy hair, pores, lines. I’d say I look better without but just look tired, in reality.

Any recommendations? Have also tried CLARINS Extra Firming which again, looked fine in John Lewis and like slutch after a morning at work.

I’d appreciate some recommendations because I do need something.

Tinted moisturiser.

Dragongirl10 · 16/01/2020 16:33

I second a good tinted moisturiser, but to get the best results, make sure your cleanser, toner and moisturiser are the best they can be for your skin.

I swear by La Prarie foundation, its expensive but if you are frugal with it it can last 10 months used daily. It is like using a fantastic moisturiser that just disappears hydrating as it goes. The coverage is much better than a tinted moisturiser, use a fine sponge to apply.

YasssKween · 16/01/2020 16:34

Are you using primer before applying? Makes such a huge difference.

Tableclothing · 16/01/2020 16:35

Are you using a primer?

How about a different forumlation e.g. Bare Minerals matte foundation powder? I find it gives a slight radiance even though it says matte.

milliefiori · 16/01/2020 16:39

Use a primer. It really does make a difference. And apply in a dabbing motion with a sponge. When I lazily run it on wiht my finger tips I can see all the tiny hairs on my face and lines. It looks streaky and my face looks ancient. If dabbed on with a damp sponge it looks dewy and brightens my skin.

MoltonSilver · 16/01/2020 16:40

I think it might be your skincare routine that needs tweaking, not your make up.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 16/01/2020 18:24

Yes, using primer, an Estée Lauder illuminating one. I’m thinking I might have a fringe cut to cover half my face!

Skincare’s pretty good. Double cleanse and use a Forneo Lunar Pink very gently. Use a collagen serum and then Dr Organic cream on top. NEVER ever slept in makeup. Could drink more water, I guess.

Apply with a wet sponge? Also make sure you do your makeup in front of a window with natural sunlight!

I use CYO foundation. When applied with wet sponge it just looks like my skin!

MissKittyBeaudelais · 16/01/2020 18:29

Hmmm, could be I’m too old now to apply just using fingers? I do have brushes but am lazy in using them 😊

Tinted moisturiser looks fine on me for about and hour and then disappears, taking anything I’ve put on top, with it.

Beauty blender time!

MsChatterbox · 16/01/2020 19:13

I wouldn't even bother with brushes I would go straight for sponge! I have the real technique one I really like it. Put it under tap then squeeze out excess water. I think this will solve your problems!

MsChatterbox · 16/01/2020 19:14

And make sure you dab not drag! Apply product to back of hand, then dot over face and dab in with sponge. I can do it in 2 mins!

MissKittyBeaudelais · 16/01/2020 19:44

@MsChatterbox... do you end up using lots of product?

OP posts:
MsChatterbox · 16/01/2020 19:51

If you apply direction to the sponge it will soak it up. But if you apply like I said you don't. My skin tone is very uneven so I like a lot and use 2 pumps. But it's the same if I do fingers or brush!

MissKittyBeaudelais · 16/01/2020 20:22

Thanks @MsChatterbox. I do have a sponge so, will try it.

Put it on in the car so you can see it in natural light as it’s applied.

YahBasic · 16/01/2020 20:30

Soak the sponge in water before you apply and squeeze the excess so you are applying with a damp sponge.

Easier to blend and doesn’t soak up as much product.

Ohyesiam · 16/01/2020 20:58

Dior Superskin Glow Put on with a beauty buff .

Horses4 · 16/01/2020 21:03

The bare minerals sponge with the silicon and sponge sides has been a revelation for me, and I have appalling skin.

Duvetdweller · 16/01/2020 21:07

I use a CC cream by Erborian and feel it’s not as heavy as a foundation but gives me better coverage than tinted moisturiser. I get it in space NK

zurigirl · 16/01/2020 21:14

No idea whether or not this would be right for you and your skin type... but I swear by the Lancome primer and foundation. Definitely the best combination I've tried. (I actually mix the foundation in with the primer rather than applying them separately though, as I don't like heavy coverage, and doing that makes it look more natural.)

zurigirl · 16/01/2020 21:15

Another thing, do you drink enough water? I have to make a real effort to drink enough, but when I do it really seems to help my skin. :)
