Best cream for REALLY dry, sore, sensitive face ?

I've started some anti acne meds this week and as a result the skin on my face is so so sore, dry and sensitive. Big red angry dry patches owwww
Does anyone have any suggestions for a really rich soothing cream I could slather on my face? Preferably something I could nip out now and buy from the high street/local chemist

I've been using E45 cream on my forehead lately as it is so dry. Seems to be helping.

pleasenomorechocolates · 11/01/2020 11:29

E45 makes my skin feel like it’s on fire... I’d go for Aveeno OP

The ordinary niacinamide serum before your face cream will restore some moisture too

Thisenglishlife · 11/01/2020 11:31

Eucerin replenishing face cream with urea. Buy some Superdrug B Essence and some evening primrose oil tablets too.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/01/2020 11:45

Aveeno
CeraVe
Eucerin 10%
Vaseline
Blue Nivea

Ditch all face washes for the time being.

I have very dry senstive skin in winter which can get sore. The only thing that sorts it out is L'Occitane ultra rich Shea cream. It's expensive but really helps.

JMAngel1 · 11/01/2020 12:14

Oh gosh no not the niacinamide serum - that's actually for oily skin and dries mine out.

AnnaMagnani · 11/01/2020 12:26

Cerave.
La Roche Posay Cicaplast.
Eucerin with Urea.

QueenOfTheSavages · 11/01/2020 12:29

Diprobase eczema cream (I use it and I don't have eczema, I just have very dry, sore, itchy skin at times) plus blue nivea. Makes my scaly skin like a baby's again.

Apileofballyhoo · 11/01/2020 12:43

Mind you don't get the cicaplast near your eyes. Avene do a moisturiser called Skin Recovery Cream which feels quite soothing. Has mineral oil in it though. They also do a cleanser called Extremely Gentle Cleanser. Boots have those. I use the cleaner by massaging it over my face and rinsing it off rather than cotton wool.

Balmonds pure potions/skin salvation might be worth looking at. Holland and Barrett.

CeraVe moisturising lotion is cheap for the amount you get so you can use lots. Might sting a bit though. The cream is thicker but has mineral oil in it.

Keep hot water away from your face.

frugalkitty · 11/01/2020 13:45

My DS uses Avene Skin Recovery Cream for this, they have two options one is richer than the other. Try and buy on offer in boots.

FGSJoanWhatsWrongWithYou · 11/01/2020 13:46

Bepanthan. Yes, the baby bum cream. Great for sunburn too.

Trewser · 11/01/2020 13:47

When dd was on accutane she used LRP cicaplast

ppeatfruit · 11/01/2020 14:18

If you have a bad reaction to petroleum products, (most of the cheap, and not so cheap products are petroleum based) then try pure almond oil with a couple of drops rose essential oil. It's expensive but a little goes a very long way , If not then basil ess oil is nice and Ttree is brilliant against soreness , mixed with 10 drops of almond oil it's really lovely.

AlexaKimbo · 11/01/2020 16:07

Cicaplast Baume is amazing for sore, dry skin.

Macandcheeseplease · 11/01/2020 19:06

Eucerin. It's a miracle cream!

StrawberryPi · 11/01/2020 19:19

Is it isotretanoin? I'm on that and have use cetaphil and cereve - both have been good! Basically you want something ultrahydrating and free of irritating ingredients like scents.

thinkfast · 11/01/2020 19:21

Avene range for sensitive skin is great.

Dont touch e45 with a barge pole. It gives me a dreadful rash

bananahood · 11/01/2020 19:23

Another vote for Eucerin. The only thing that helps me when my eczema breaks out on my face. Won't be without it now.

HungryForSnacks · 11/01/2020 19:36

I've had an eczema face explosion this week and Epaderm seems to have helped a lot. I got it on prescription but I think you can get it over the counter. You can use it as a moisturizer and also as a cleanser

Ilovepinot · 11/01/2020 19:46

If you send a photo of your face to The Ordinary and list your concerns, they will recommend a regime for you.

CloudyVanilla · 11/01/2020 19:49

Changing your cleansing method can make a huge difference to dry skin too. Look up hot cloth cleansing or double cleansing with a milky lotion cleanser as your second step instead of a foam cleanser. Also consider washing you face without lots of water, my skin much prefers a slightly damp fluffy towel but I do have truly dry skin.

Its not flaky or rough at all nymoe because of how I take care of it, but I could a month without washing it and it would never look even slightly oily and that's always been the way :(

For moisturiser I gave tried many many of all different price points and I keep coming back to Nivea Creme. Nothing is as softening for me. The most important thing though is to add moisture and then seal it in. This comes far above fancy active ingredients for dry skin. You can either add a thicker moisturiser to damp skin, layer up light more watery lotions under thicker creams, or use the "slug" method and slather a layer of vaseline on as your last step.

I've had fantastic results with vaseline but it gets kind of gross long term, I think most people do it while necessary and then ease off.

Hope your skin feels better soon!

JustMyName · 11/01/2020 19:52

I have very sensitive dry skin and I use Body shop hemp face cream. If you go in store they'll let you try it. I've never had any problems with it.

WhiskersPete · 11/01/2020 20:22

Celestial from Lush. Only cream that has never caused a burning sensation on my skin. It's amazing

Annasgirl · 11/01/2020 20:41

La Roche Posay Toleraine. Recommended by a dermatologist
