I've come to a shampoo/conditioner halt. The Joico duo I've been using for a while isn't working for me.

I'm looking for replacements.

What type and style of hair do you have?
Which shampoo and conditioner do you recommend? And which would you avoid? And why?

TIA Thanks

I have very thick, course hair and after trying many, many different ones over the years I have finally settled with Palmers olive oil shampoo, followed by their coconut oil conditioner. Under £4 A bottle and really keeps my hair in great condition.

SallyLovesCheese · 09/01/2020 07:20

I have fine, straight, coloured hair that tends to get greasy quickly and use the Eco Warrior Deeply Nourishing shampoo bar. Makes my hair feel lovely!

homemadecommunistrussia · 09/01/2020 07:30

This one from bomb It lasts so long I'm not sure they make it any more!
I have an ethinque conditioner bar too which is brilliant.

missyB1 · 09/01/2020 07:33

I have coarse thick hair and use Redken Mega Soft shampoo and conditioner, I have tried hundreds of other products and this is literally the only one that doesn't make my hair feel like straw.

jeremypaxo · 09/01/2020 08:38

I am currently using the best I've ever tried, but it doesn't come cheap. It's by a company called Virtue and has keratin in it. My hair is long and fine with brittle ends but within three weeks this S&C has given me the hair I've always wanted. It is so expensive though, I'm not sure I can justify it forever.

I really like the Charles Worthington micellar range too so may go back to that.

SpaBreakFugitive · 09/01/2020 09:08

Brilliant, thank you.
Please keep the suggestions coming.

Ideally I'd like a luxury go-to and an every day cheap shampoo and conditioner.

I purposely didn't write about my own hair type in my OP because I find the products that work for me are not necessarily the ones that 'should'.

I have long, straight, fine Caucasian hair.
It's greasy at the roots and very dry at the ends, I live in a hard water area and every bar shampoo I've tried hasn't lathered up.

For a while I was using the Shea afro hair range, although it's clearly not meant for my hair type it worked really beautifully but I think they changed the formula and it didn't work.

I have fine hair in a bob, it gets greasy very quickly (I have to wash it every day).

I use Herbal Essences Bio Renew Strawberry & Mint. My hair feels really clean and the conditioner makes it super soft (without making it greasy). It also smells amazing :)

sleepwhenidie · 09/01/2020 09:22

jeremypaxo which one in the Virtue range are you using please?

jeremypaxo · 09/01/2020 09:36

I've been using the Recovery S&C. They do also have a volumising one which I may try in future as my hair does go quite flat on day 2.

I got it on Cult Beauty with some other stuff when they had 30% off over £100 so it worked out a bit cheaper. I think Virtue also offers a discount on your first purchase.

Pinkflipflop85 · 09/01/2020 09:47

I have really thick, long (to my waist) bleached hair. I tried the primark shampoo and conditioner in the purple bottles after a mention on here and I love it!!

LightOfAThousandStars · 09/01/2020 12:19

I have wavy hair and use Noughty 'to the Rescue' shampoo and conditioner. It doesn't dry out my hair and is sulfate free as well.

Jammiebammie · 09/01/2020 12:21

Atm I’m loving Philip Kingsley, want to try the coconut range next. I never stick to one shampoo/brand for too long though I always switch it up. Also love mane and tail, always makes my hair feel so soft.

ReginaGeorgeous · 09/01/2020 16:31

I have fine hair, but I have a lot of it. It is bra strap length and highlighted, I have greasy roots and dry ends. At the moment I am using Redken All Soft and I really like it. I also use Phillip Kingsley Elasticiser on it weekly and my hair is in really good condition, especially since it has only just finished the dreaded post partum shedding.

I buy my shampoo and conditioner off allbeauty.com, it's £23 for a duo set containing a 500ml bottle of each.

I've never tried a shampoo bar so can't comment on those.

Liriope · 09/01/2020 16:36

Every couple of weeks I use Redken Clean Maniac (recommended by my stylist). It helps 'reset' my hair in terms of removing residue

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/01/2020 16:39

I suffer from greasy scalp

I find Herbal Essences White Mint And Strawberry good.

Redken for Purple Shampoo "Blondage"

lotusbell · 09/01/2020 16:39

Is Redken sulphate free?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/01/2020 16:40

I don't know if they ALL are, but I know some are

Liriope · 09/01/2020 16:42

Redken Clean Maniac is sulphate-free and silicone-free

Goodnightjude1 · 09/01/2020 16:42

I have long (waist length) thick, frizz prone hair. I’ve settled with the Aussie hair range for the mo. It makes my hair feel and smell gorgeous. Superdrug often do good offers on it too.

GinisLife · 09/01/2020 16:45

Keraastase green one. Shampoo & conditioner. I'm finding I'm losing hardly any hair. I went to empty the drain this morning and there was nothing in there where normally it would be blocked.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 09/01/2020 16:49

My hair is very similar to yours, OP, except it's bobbed to shoulder length. But otherwise, yes - fine, straight and very soft, almost like baby hair. I struggle with what to use, because lots of shampoos and conditioners weigh it down, but if I don't condition, it feels really harsh and straw-like.

For years I used L'Oreal Ever Pure, which I loved. But it's been discontinued in the UK (I believe) and too much hassle to get hold of. I live in hope of a relaunch, as it's recently been repackaged in the US. If that happens, I'll be straight back to it.

In the meantime, I've recently settled on OGX Collagen and Biotin - sulphate free so doesn't irritate my scalp, and volumising, which I find helps delay the greasy roots. It's fine for now, but I'm watching for other suggestions with interest!

thejoysofboys · 09/01/2020 16:54

I have fine hair that gets greasy at the roots too, OP.
Prone to dry and split ends (it’s highlighted and shoulder length).
I swear by Aussie Mega and have done for years but pre-kids when o could afford nicer shampoo I also used Aveda

homemadecommunistrussia · 09/01/2020 17:17

I forgot to say my hair is fine and straight, I wash it every other day.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 09/01/2020 17:23

Mane and Tail. Fine hair, dry, coloured, going white underneath, was long and has just been chopped to collar length, so is now going wavy with the reduced weight.

Nothing else has ever been as good.

lotusbell · 09/01/2020 19:29

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit, thanks. I reckon I'd need the Mega Soft for my hair but I'll have a look.
