I want to start using soap in the shower rather than shower gel but how do you store it?
And which would you recommend?
There seem to be loads and loads of websites selling stuff. Could you recommend the best one?
Do you buy reusable cleanser pads? Are they good?
If I can't use tampons because I feel sore would I be able to use a moon up?
I think thays it for now!

I’ve recently changed to soap instead of shower gel and just feel so much cleaner for it. I have a stick on soap drainer thing that’s attached to the glass (enclosed shower cubicle).

Shockers · 08/01/2020 20:01

I have a soap dish resting on the shower tap.

Pipandmum · 08/01/2020 20:02

Um, I put the soap on a shelf attached to the shower. I use Dove for sensitive skin.
Can't help you with the rest.

Sjl479 · 08/01/2020 20:02

Soap dish with vacuum suction thing attached to tiles (also one for shampoo bar)

Shockers · 08/01/2020 20:02

I use washable cleansing pads and sanitary towels. I rinse the sanitary towels under a cold tap before washing them.

delilabell · 08/01/2020 20:26

@shockers where did you get them from?
Everyone else, does your soap go claggy?

OP posts:
CountFosco · 08/01/2020 20:41

Buy triple milled soap, it doesn't go claggy.

Whathappenedtothelego · 08/01/2020 20:52

I use soap, I put it on the side of the sink in an old upturned lid, and just bring it with me into the shower each time.
Recommend washable period underwear.

delilabell · 08/01/2020 21:12

OK triple milled soap, washable makeup pads will be ordered once I find what I like.
Not to sure about washable sanitary towels.. How when do you wash them? Do they hold blood well?

I put the soap on the wire tray thing already on our shower - it seems to be fine, doesn't go claggy.

I buy either Nesti Dante or Savon de Marseille from Ebay/Amazon. I think I prefer Nesti Dante - huge bars of soap and lovely scents.

CallofDoodee · 08/01/2020 21:17

I've not tried reusable pads, but I couldn't live without my mooncup now. It can be a bit tricky to get to grips with though, but definitely feels better than tampons.

byteme1011 · 08/01/2020 21:20

I use a lush shampoo box, it's a little tin, great for gym, travelling etc.
Sadly I haven't found a decent shampoo or conditioner bar

Zinnia · 08/01/2020 21:56

Reusable cleansing pads are great - Bambaw brand from &Keep which is a brilliant resource for this kind of thing.

Swapped whole family to bamboo toothbrushes a year or so ago, a cinch. DH and I are on Truthbrush at the mo, pretty to look at but am planning to switch to the one my local organic shop recommends (which I think is f.e.t.e) when current supplies run out. There are loads of brands out there though - kids use Humble Brush ones, from Boots or Holland & Barrett.

I've been using a mooncup for years and years, with eco disposable pads for backup when necessary. If I weren't heading towards peri I'd be looking at the underwear instead of pads and in fact need to look into them anyway for DD1 before too long!

Zinnia · 08/01/2020 21:58

Forgot to add - the Face Halo cleansing pad is brilliant too but more expensive than the bamboo ones. You'd need at least two or three in rotation really (clean with soap after use then put in hot wash with towels).

IjustbelieveinMe · 08/01/2020 22:02

I place a folded flannel on the shelf in the shower and keep the soap on top of it.

TwigTheWonderKid · 08/01/2020 22:10

We have these wire soap dishes in shower and one above our small sink in our downstairs loo.

Shockers · 08/01/2020 22:31

@delilabell- I got them from an online shop called Live kindly Eco Shop (they’re on Facebook too).

Soap I get from a local deli that also sells artisan stuff made locally. It’s organic and smells of roses... I love that smell Smile.

The soap dish is a Joseph Joseph one.

BearFoxBear · 08/01/2020 22:40

Plastic draining tray thing for the soap. We use Wright's Coal Tar soap, love the smell!

I use facecloths, ikea ones, which are cheap and take being washed to death.

I've used a mooncup for a few years - used yo get pain from tampons, but none with the mooncup.

TheClitterati · 08/01/2020 22:42

I keep my soap in my knicker drawer is. But once I start using it I keep it on at flying Tiger soap dish which is made of plastic ironically but it has little grass so it's really good for holding & draining the soap and no doubt I will use that for years.

Moon cup yes .- far far far more comfortable than tampons give it a go.

TheClitterati · 08/01/2020 22:43

And advise advise not going to crazy on buying soaps as one bar of soap last for such a long time. I won't need to buy new soap for years.

MaidenMotherCrone · 08/01/2020 22:52

Nesti Dante soap...stays lovely and lasts a long time.
Regular facecloths.... cheap, cheerful and washable. Still have some Tweenies ones from DS3 and he's about to turn 21 Smile.

didireallysaythat · 08/01/2020 23:11

I bought DS1 a sisal soap bag and a bar of soap to counteract his lynx body wash habit. Seems to be working. He just hangs the bag up.

princessbear80 · 08/01/2020 23:20

Try the MeLuna brand of menstrual cups. I started off with a Mooncup but found it a bit rigid so difficult to insert. The MeLuna is much more flexible so easier to use, for me anyway.

delilabell · 09/01/2020 11:33

Excellent help everyone thank you so much. @didireallysaythat sisal soab bag sounds fabulous. @princessbear80 thank you for the advice I will look at them.

I make cold pressed soap and it needs to cure for 6-8 weeks before it is used so I store it on a shelf under a clean teatowel to keep the dust off. For soap that is being used, the one in the kitchen is on a wooden dish. The one on the bathroom sink is on a ceramic dish, the shower has a wire rack on the tiles.
